It was kind of disappointing to see people overlooking how high effort this remake is simply because it’s not 60 FPS I understand the argument about settling for less, but that doesn’t justify devaluing the developers’ hard work just because the frame rate isn’t at an industry standard. The Devs wanted to make the game look as beautiful as possible because that was part of the appeal of the original game the visuals so they had to sacrifice frame rate the switch is barely more powerful then a seventh generation console it’s not the developers fault that Nintendo had the switch made with outdated hardware

TTYD Switch edition's visual overhaul don't feel like a straight upgrade in my opinion. For instance, the trees and clouds in the gamecube version look a lot more lively and stylish compared to the somewhat bland look of the new paper mario style. Yes, the textures and shapes of the new switch style makes it look more like "paper" but I don't get why they had to tone down the comic book esque artstyle to achieve this. That comicbook style was something that I really enjoyed from the original and I believe it helped give the game it's unique visual identity. I think there are some minor differences in how things are displayed too that irk me a little, like on the map reveal, they made the star cutout effect behind mario a lot smaller. As a result it feels a little less impressive when mario gains new info on the map. They probably could've made it slightly smaller but making it so small it's only covering the map and losing the speedlines reduces the impact of the event for me. Some Battle animations also look like a general downgrade from the original. I think they must've forgotten to speed up the battle animations because stuff looks like it's in slow motion now. If you compare the hammer animation from gamecube to switch, the GC version looks like mario's struggling to charge up the hammer for an attack while the switch version lacks any feeling of weight to it when he's charging it up. Not all the new changes are bad, I like the new door and some of the lighting effects they added to the environment. I also don't mind the 60fps -> 30fps change that much. Would it be preferrable if it was 60? Yes, but I think it's something I could get used to with enough time. The other changes, maybe not so much. It's frustrating since I'd love to play the definitive experience of TTYD on a modern console but for me, it kinda hits that middle ground of going a little too far with visual changes that it doesn't feel the same anymore without being an entirely new game. Maybe I'll get a lot of hate for this post, but as of right now, I don't feel too sold on this version of the game as someone who's played the original already. I think it will be a good game for people who haven't played the original to be able to experience the story and gameplay for the first time, and I hope they can enjoy the game.

The people defending the game only have "muh graphics" to make it sound better and even that arguement is weak. They made crystal stars look like literal stickers. Metroid Prime Remastered is far more impressive visually than this. The voices giving more personality is fair but that isn't important to the game like the gameplay is which wasn't even optimized for a much more powerful console. @@dave9515 The floor being shiny everywhere is also one of my "meh" points, but not really a serious complaint. There have been no performance drops so far in seen gameplay. IGN said they had 1 or 2 small stutters in specific scenes, but there is no realy footage to confirm this, and other people who got early gameplay demos said they had no issues. That means, so far there is no performance issue to complain about known. The few dialog changes are non-issues "OH NO THE GOOMBAS AREN'T SEXIST ANYMORE" is the only line i saw some complaints about, but like i said non-issue. So yes, the Framerate issue is the only LEGIT reason to be on the level of complaining about it. And i know that 60 fps feels smoother, but that doesn't mean that 30 fps are unplayable like some FPS-jesters claim. TTYDR is a Remake. Metroid Prime Remastered is (like the name says) a Remaster. Metroid Prime Remastered is a port that runs the original source code, the baked lighting and texture improvements happen on top of everything. TTYDR is remade from the ground up in some variation of the Origami King engine (as far as we can see). @@byuremklack9735 I never made the claim that FPS makes no difference, I stated the average person will not care. FPS definitely matters in faster-paced games like your shooters or action games, but for a turn-based RPG like TTYD most of the timing for action commands is pretty easy to land (the Superguard mechanic being more of a bonus VS a requirement), regardless of 30 or 60 FPS. Hot take but I think I prefer 30fps for Paper Mario rather than 60fps, and that's coming from a guy who plays on a beefy PC with usually 165 frames+. It somehow lends itself to the paper aesthetic more and gives more of a cinematic feel imo. I do understand the concern with input delay and button press timing with the change, but Im sure that was kept in mind with this release. Also those gorgeous visuals justify it. I just cant wait. Keep in mind this isn't an excuse for the Switch being underpowered, a game like this in 2024 should have no issue running at 60fps solid, just my opinion from an artistic stance.

I just completed Paper Mario 64 on NSO, so I think I’m gonna buy this game. But I couldn’t find a way to save my victory over Bowser, because the save block in Toad Town gets removed, which means you’ll never see a 100% save file in the game. Though I wonder: can you leave Toad Town in the epilogue before entering Peach’s castle? I doubt it, but would the save blocks in the surrounding areas still be where they were during the game if so?
@Gemma-Majoran4 ай бұрын
so the reason old games did that is...a bit goofy but basically the last save is b4 the final boss so that you CAN do everything else without them having to create a post game

@@Gemma-Majoran I don’t know if that answers the question of “can you leave Toad Town in the epilogue before entering Peach’s castle?”. Because entering it eventually triggers the credits and you can’t do anything else once they’re through.
@cullenlatham23664 ай бұрын
@@fridaynightfunkinfan5627 i havent tested that particular thing myself, but the previous reply was more an explanation as to why the save block is removed in the first place; n64 era was still early enough in the history of video games that devs were still trying to figure out what was to become mainstay features of the medium. NG+ was not yet common, and saving after the final boss meant it could never be re-fought. Then comes hardware limitations a bit too specific to get into when i am only guessing or working off inferences. They dont want you to save post final boss when they havent even "figured out" returning the player to the title screen or implementing credits, as such a save would basically brick the file into a gameplay-less conclusion. Most N64 games with a definitive end to a story freeze up like that and force a hard (console) reset, so it isnt much of a stretch to infer the hardware limitations and intent behind a lack of post game, NG+, and the absence of save blocks in the conclusion. If there is a reachable save block, it almost certainly requires glitches, and hardware limitations also make it hard to believe they programmed a "world peace" map state for every screen in the game, implying that the devs would do everything in their power to keep you locked to the few screens that DO have a "world peace" map state. It is pretty telling when remakes of games from that era often include boss rematches that werent in the original: video games have learned the mainstays by the time of the remake, and want to give players a way to continue enjoying the game post credits, even if there is no post game itself.
