Nine years later this shows up in my feed and it is brilliant! I've adhered napkins successfully using adhesives but this seems so much simpler and no waiting for it to dry. Cannot wait to give it a go. Thanks for sharing!

I love this iron - on method and I don't do decoupage any other way now because this method means you get no wrinkles or bubbles, yay 😀 😊 The only thing I do differently is I brush layers of Mod Podge or other decoupage glue/sealer over the substrate that I'm decoupaging, let the glue dry completely, and then I place the decoupage paper or napkin over the dried glue with a sheet of baking parchment over the top and then iron over the the paper until the glue melts again and the decoupage paper sticks down to the surface underneath. I find it easier to use glue instead of plastic wrap when I'm decoupaging something like the inside base of a wooden tray or box, just because I don't have to cut off excess plastic wrap if I've used the glue. But I'm a total convert to the iron on method. Thanks for a great video tutorial 👍.

Thanks! I followed your directions and used this technique several times recently to make invitations, decorate favor boxes, and etc. for the bridal shower I was hosting. They turned out fabulous. HINT: I found that it was crucial to use inexpensive/generic plastic wrap, the name brand stuff I tried at first didn't work.

I tried this with a Christmas napkin but I used aluminum foil under the plastic wrap and over the napkin. I then glue dotted it to a wooden sign that was the right size and it is now sitting on the ledge at work. It look pretty! TYSM for the idea!

Thank you for demoing this technique - I've read about it but have not yet done it. I've just recently bought some suitable paper napkins & wondered why this technique would be better than glueing them to cardstock. You answered that nicely in the last part of the video, plus showing some lovely examples of how to use the finished pieces.

I always save napkins form special events, (for some reason) well hoping I'll scap with them. SO I used your technic with my 8yr old grandsons Spiderman B-Day napkin fussy cutting it then put that special glow in the dark paint in places and put it on foam pop-up squares. mounted it on a cardbard building I cut out and painted with glow in the dark paint too. He thought that was the coolest B-day present of all... Thanks!!

To separate such layered papers: apply small piece of sticky tape to one side of design paper. On the opposite side (back side/other layer) place another small piece of sticky tape Without lotting the 2 pieces of tape stick to one another. Carefully grasp one tape strip in each hand and gently pull tape and its attached paper layer apart. This should get the paper layers separated enough so you can complete process by hand. I think this was on back side of Contact Paper a while back. Works like a charm.

it always seemed to me that the napkin technique (the classical one, with adhesive and a lot of time working on it) seemed very complicated and hard to achieve. but wow, what you did here is so so incredibly easy! is like...cheating legally at an exam! :) I always loved the patterned papers and tried to achieved them every possible way, the cheapest being the digital papers. but what it lacked was the texture. with your technique you got them both! it cheap AND textured! thanks so very much!

I'm reminded of a 'dry mounting technique' I was taught for use with photo prints back in the day - you would place a photo over a sheet of wax paper, with both centered on the cardstock you wanted to attache the photo to, cover, and then iron. The wax paper would melt and act as an adhesive for the photo, with relatively little mess or fuss.
