Hey! This was a great explanation. Though I'd like to mention, my textbooks also mention how the components are less or more soluble because of the polarity of the mobile and stationary phase that affect the retention factor. Polar stationary phases readily interact with more polar substances of the ink/drug/etc. while non polar substances do not bind as often and hence results in low retention factor. If this viewpoint was included in the video, perhaps it would help more struggling students like me. Thanks so much! Shrestha Sharma hey there! I just too ka look at ur comment and maybe I could have a go at explaining it based on what in understood from this video . Now , pure substances tend to have lower retention factor because they consist of only one kind of substance with the ability to dissolve , but Anvi,pure substance , on the other hand, would have substances of varying solubilities ( different levels of attraction with the paper) and are likely to spread out more and have chances of having greater retention factors . If I’m wrong, kindly correct me as this is just a random idea of mine :)

Because pencil is basically lead while the ink in the pen is made of coloured components which will cause interference in the experimental values.
