I have been a subscriber for a while now but never commented before. Just had to say a big thank you for showing the book you bought on folklore of Britain. I live in England and did not know about this book until I saw your copy. I have just purchased a copy from Abe Books as a birthday present for my son and I am sure he will love it. Love watching you. Take care, Linda

Awesome!! The book does look really interesting, and I like how there are so many illustrations throughout, instead of having it be just text. Hope that your son enjoys the book & thanks for watching!

Love the Finnish pot and book. My grandpa was a photographer from the 1930’s until the 70’s . I have all the negatives. Pictures of the original ships run on coal in the Great Lakes region , the building of I-75 to the Mackinaw bridge and the bridge itself. I bought a scanner for negatives and print pictures from it. You could as well. Don’t pass up those old big negatives. Lots of interesting history in them. Marie

I wish Columbus was a bit closer to me, as it would be a great place to go to on a weekly basis. So many vendors, from antiques to food! I imagine setting up on that pavement in the summer gets a bit brutal once the summer afternoon sun sets in. The beautiful weather definitely brought people out on this day!

Columbus is a great market 20 years ago my wife used to go every week but is a long drive. Lots of “ characters “ there. I remember a guy that would stand on the top of his box truck shouting “ Holler Holler everything is only a Dollar!” Wonder if that was him there still? Haven’t been there in about 8 years but doesn’t look like things have changed much Last times we went up my girlfriend and me got a hotel room the night before which made it easier to get there early My flea market was rained out Saturday but Sunday was good and I bought well. Best thing was Stanley ivory and German silver folding rule, saw it in a showcase along side a boxwood rule. Asked the price “ $10 each” I took them both and told him I would just put them in my pocket, I normally make a pile but didn’t want that ivory rule out where others would see it. Probably worth $300 or so
@PaperandMoose4 ай бұрын
Oh wow! Like I said, you always find the best things! Perhaps your box truck guy was replaced by the guy that was telling the stories, singing, and then doing his sit-ups and workout on top of the box truck... He sure knew how to bring the people into his stand! Wheeling & dealing, he eventually dropped the price down to $1 on everything. Could that have been the same guy??

Great show. You got perfect flea market weather and a pretty neat assortment of interesting stuff as well. 3:39 "Alpenfest - Auf geht´s !" (Alp party - let´s go !) sounds like an invitation to your forthcoming trip to Europe. 😃 Congrats on the Finnish enamel bowl, probably 1970s design. Big score on the photo album, if names are available, it might be worth to do some further research. Same with the Victorian postcards and die cuts. Keep it up, and keep the party going ! 👍 Greets from GER, U.

The party was going at the flea market, for sure! A nice pick-up on the bowl and a little lesson in vintage enamelware. For $1.00, I couldn't go wrong! My "goal" this week is to finish up the Berlin letters. I feel that I must mentally prepare myself for how they will end. There were a few brief sentences with reference to the Tempelhof airfield & how the writer was in contact with a man who worked in the office for departures, but she stated, "unfortunately as a blind passenger he cannot send me off and I cannot take the first steps either." I'm assuming that "blind passenger" refers to not having the proper permits or a passport. So it appears that she was trying to make her way to America at some point...
@fareast_de4 ай бұрын
@@PaperandMooseThat´s what I assumed the whole time, like I have stated before. In the 1940s and 1950s the U.S. were "the place to be", but between 1945 and 1948/49 German citizens were not welcome as immigrants to the the U.S., with one exception: the so called "war brides" (and of course high ranking specialists like Wernher von Braun). So this guy had to initiate a wedding invitation, and then the transfer would have been working. Sorry to tell you that, but be prepared for a sad end of this early post war story...😗

@@fareast_de Oh I know it ends sadly as I already know that he meets his wife in Chicago and the Berlin beauty is bid farewell... I just am wondering if he tells her about this new woman, if he or she ends things before that, or if something completely different occurs to end the correspondence. We shall find out!

@PaperandMoose4 ай бұрын
@@fareast_de I plan on filming a little "reaction" video immediately after I finish translating the last letter. I have 5 more letters to go, so that's on my agenda for tomorrow. Then after all the translation is completed, I'm going back to the start and do some editing on where translations might be a bit iffy and also doing comparative research to match up events written about to the actual event going on in Berlin.

Teeth at 1:37! Photo albums and journals are great. Lot of nice car shots in the "wedding album." I wouldn't have guessed that a Reader's Digest book would go for so much . . . but usually I just see the "condensed books." See if they have, "Black Shuck, the Dog of Death," in there. I had a horror book as a kid that had a lot of legends and that was one. I think he's called different things in different parts of the UK - or, really, England, I think. Believe, "The Hound of the Baskervilles," may reflect that legend. Looked like a great day! The bowl is a great find - and metal, so it can be mailed. Thanks & have a great Monday!
@PaperandMoose4 ай бұрын
I took a look & your Black Shuck was in there! Funny how in the different areas of the UK he means different things. Most are not "good" however in one area he is supposed to be of luck or a kind of protector for travelers. So many different myths, legends, & lures! I know here in New Jersey our most famous would have to be the Jersey Devil, of which I have never seen and spent some time in that area (could be a good thing!). In my county, we have Shades of Death Road which I've never been to... which could also be a good thing knowing the not so pleasant past history! The nice weather and the buzzing of the market has me waiting in anticipation for my flea market to open & what is waiting to be found!
@stephenritz55814 ай бұрын
@@PaperandMooseI did not know there was an actual Jersey Devil. That story is a little frightening to me even now I don’t know why stories based in Colonial times frighten me more than contemporary ones - must be association with the witch trials. Shades of Death Road doesn’t sound like anywhere I’d want to visit after dark either. We don’t seem to have good ghost and beast stories like that down here. Or maybe I just haven’t looked. Research!

Today...(Tues.) I'm going "treasure" hunting...Sal. Army and G.W. Hope "Lady Luck" will be my companion!! Those old scrapbooks look similar to a couple I have from my parents' young days! That cast metal ash tray looking piece is from the New York World's Fair (The World of Tomorrow) of 1939-40, interesting item, would have picked that one up, depending on the price, of course! Out here, we had the Pan-Pacific Exposition, (Treasure Island), same years. I keep thinking, if those 39-40 predictors were projected into our time...their "Tomorrow"...they'd run screaming back to their time!!! Sadly, some people have no desire to keep their family photos. I’ve been to family run estate sales where I find old photo albums & when I inquire if they are for sale or if the family would like to keep them, more often than not there’s a few glimpses at some of the photos & a “Aunt Ethel had these, must have been some relation to her dad’s side of the family, but we have no clue who they are. Sure they’re for sale.” I’d rather have the photos show up at a flea market or auction versus in the dumpster. Of course, thankfully, there are those who keep their family photos!
