This car has been local my entire life so when the current owner reached out to have us diagnosing a dead battery while driving we said to bring it over. The complaint was that the battery would go dead while driving in parades. It had already been converted to a 12 volt system previously. We also found that some of the lighting was not functioning properly as well. This car is not for sale. As always, thanks for watching!

My great uncle drove his ancient Farmall tractor through every parade he could. One year he got a drum of the most awful turquoise paint and proceeded to paint the tractor. Lol, then he painted his riding mower and bicycle. Then the rocks along his driveway and the trunks of the trees in the yard. He painted everything but his old Pekinese dog! Rest in peace Uncle Dick.

Saw the thumbnail and thought are you f’ing kidding me, what Puddin’s got a Model A he’s hot rodding so now you gotta have a hot rodded Model A. Gotta say I did like the colour scheme on it, not many would go with the black and root beer but I thought it looked sharp, nice of you to fix it up for the guy. And again just so we’re clear we don’t do customer work right? Or is it we don’t do customer work unless it’s a cool car

Couple things on those GM alternators. You probably found it out, or at least Mojo would know this, but you can push the brushes into the holder and hold them with a pin through the rear case and the brush holder to hold them in while you reassemble the alternator. Pull the pins out the back once the case bolts are tightened. Next thing is that wire to the side connector that everybody just hooks to the stud on the back is the voltage sense wire for the regulator. It's supposed to attach as close to the battery terminal as practical and this may help with low speed charging issues. The other wire to the side connector is the excitation signal and this is the one you need to add the diode to. Crazy thing is that wire behaves like the stator wire on the external regulator setups and actually can produce enough power to run the ignition system. If you have a direct connection from ignition to this terminal, it will backfeed that power to your ignition system when the engine is running so turning off the key will not stop the engine. Give Duff dog a few doggie treats and a pat on the head!

My uncle used to do the parade thing when I was a little fella and he had a model A. He somehow hooked up an electric golf cart motor to the thing and would run it in the parades and then go back to the engine when he drove it. I don't know how it was cobbled together but it was pretty neat. Love them old cars.😁

Let me tell you a story. When I came over from the UK I lived with a distant relative. Her husband was a business owner and changed from new Caddy to new Lincoln every year to impress the neighbors. They were 'snowbirds' and after taking the Town car to FLA took it into the Lincoln dealership to complain about the speedo changing from MPH to KM/h on its own. they replaced the computer twice before they found a bad computer ground, must be a Ford thing.

She might have her imperfections, but she's still on the road and doing her thing after 95 years of service. Lovely to see another Model A still out and about. Yeah - the braking system is a fun thing to behold, for sure. The closest I've come to working on something similar was in a 1954 Austin A30. They are a single-pot master, manually adjusted drums all round, with a fluid-to-mechanical setup for the rear brakes. By that I mean there's a single slave cylinder that works a lever system to move the rear shoes out to the drums. The lever system is shared with the handbrake, so you can increase your rear brake bias by pulling up the handbrake a couple of clicks.....not that this is recommended, but its a way of figuring out whether a braking issue is a problem with the slave or that its just the shoes that need adjustment.....or that the pivots in the lever system need lubricating and on which side (and that particular result can be a bit concerning when one side locks up and the other is still free-wheeling). The A30 is another vehicle that is happiest cruising at 45 - 50mph. The brochures have a statement that the car will cruise at 60 all day, but when the maximum speed of the car is listed at 67mph, I wouldn't want to do it - besides which, at 60mph, the 803cc engine is pulling just shy of the red line! I enjoyed this one, Mortske. Great to hear the sounds of the old engine and gearbox as she moved too. All the best

I fixed a few of those GM alternators back in the day. The regulators rarely failed and the main diodes never did. The little black diode pack with the four leads was the most likely problem. It is three diodes that feed the regulator. They were cheap and easy to replace so that was always the place to start. The brushes would wear out too, but that was obvious when that happened. There is a little hole through the brush holders so you can stick a stiff wire in through the back of the case to hold the brushes back when you put the case together. Then pull the wire out and the brushes snap in to make contact with the slip rings.

Damn, I started to panic. I've been in bed sick all day and didn't get a notification for your Monday video on the main channel, but I did get one for the second channel, so everything is square in the universe 🙂 but it would have been much more squarer if it would have been the usual 1 1/2 - 2 hour video 😟 What a great old car. No it's not a 100% car but who cares. It looks great, it runs great, and even better, he drives it a lot. I did learn something new today. I didn't know that these had high beam headlights. I thought they only had one setting. Actually I lied, I learned two things today. You can bypass the voltage regulator in a GM alternator. I like to think I know a pretty fair amount about cars, but when Mojo pops in for a visit, I almost always learn at least one new thing...

You couldn’t ask for a better teaching aid than a Model A, all the systems are basic and straightforward. Nice alternator tutorial by the guest teacher, Professor Mojo. I went to an estate sale last spring where an ole boy who collected Model A’s had passed and his son in-law was helping sell off the collection. He had so many parts stacked up next to the barn and scattered in the weeds it was unreal. I picked up a couple of fenders, 2 headlight buckets and running boards (all wall hanger quality) for $20…that is not a misprint, 20 bucks. This was in Meeker, Ok about 30 minutes north of Puddin. As always I enjoyed the video it was within my 30 minute attention span. 😂 Peace.✌️

Mortske, I drove Dodge's for years and always had issues with the alternators. Next time you have a problem hit it like you would a starter sometimes they will start charging. The bushes sometimes get stuck.

You can change the regulator for 1 that kicks in at a lower RPM. We did it all the time for boats. As diesels run at lower RPMS.

Oh man the sweet sound of a model a. I need to suck it up and just go buy one….. grandpa always put a dead man switch under seat on them. Said it was better to be safe than sorry. Wrestling your obesity and height is a challenge in these. Grandpa hated parades on cars. Said it was so hard them. Man I wish I had model a. Also I thought you had to put a little bulb inline to get it excited and charge at idle.

When you want to change the brushes in that alternator there is a pin hole in the back of the housing load the rear brush have a toothpick or paper clip handy stick it thru the pin hole in the back if your brush is down enough you can push it halfway to put the top brush in then push it thru a little more leaving plenty hanging out the backside when it’s together before installing pull the paper clip out the rear

It is a shame that the front plate takes up a quarter of the radiator surface area. Here in TX, antique cars don't have to display a front plate.
