I am so glad you posted this. You may have noticed Charlie dedicated this to Joe Sorace. Joe was my grandfather. I also play, but not really good with all of the rudiments I am ashamed to admit. This will finally help me learn this solo. I play for fun, but am in the studio recording business. Music is in me thanks to "Little Joe, King of the rhythm Drummers". He was a true master and played all over the world and with all the best in New York in the 20's and 30's.

I am not classically trained in the rudiments, so I need some help here. Since they want us to play the 7stroke roll, shouldn’t the 8th note with the slashes be a “dotted 8th note” in measure 16 and 32? Thanks in advance for anyone’s help.

Hi Alex. Are you playing a 5 stroke roll in bar 16 and 32? On my sheet there's a 7 written over the doubled eightnote. Isn't Wilcoxon implying a 7-stroke roll?

I thought the same. Sounds like. 5 stroke. Should be 7.

Hey I have a question. How do you know which Tempo to play the piece at? In my book it doesn't list any tempos, so do we just decide our own speed or is there a legitimate tempo that I should be playing at? I would greatly appreciate some clarification!

hey Jo, I think the most important is that the piece must be "understandable". But if I remember well, it is usually around 80 bpm...
