While this song has the over laying plot, of her drowning, and dying, what if it is just a big metaphor, for them losing their love, the chorus say, "are you with him, or are you with me?" if Him was written like this, we can infer that he is talking about who he believes in, but if not, then he is referring to a guy, and he also says, "I guess its our little secret, and you're just praying I keep it!" Hinting at the fact she doesnt admit to everyone they are dating, because she doesnt love him, then they take a leap of faith, and then, bam. They lose it. I would analyze further, but League awaits.

watch the video more closely, it's really quite brilliant :-) it's about how her "memory" personifies and he gets a last few moments to say what he's really wanted to say all along, but as far as her role in his life is concerned she may as well be dead... in the acoustic videos of this song he tells the story about the writing of this song, she's not actually dead. This video is really a lot deeper than it appears on the surface.
