Күн бұрын

This is part 2 of a tutorial series aimed towards complete beginners that just begun their Europa Universalis journey. In this episode we will look at the mechanics behind the trade system and how you utilize them to build yourself a trade empire
Europa Universalis IV is available on Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store
Steam also offers a subscription service to get access to all additional content for a monthly fee. Worth noting is that if you join a multiplayer game, you will have access to all content enabled by the host - no matter what you own yourself. This might be a good way of checking out content you don't yet own

I played the game briefly many years ago. Just started again. Figured I'd better listen to some tutorials. So many DLC's etc.... And so many bad tutorial videoes here on youtube omg... But you are an exception. Just what I needed. You're keeping it simple and straightforward. And showing what you're doing. No long explanations on your personal prefferences on different features etc, just a few tips. Love it. Keep the videos coming m8

Hello! The first two videos in this series are excellent. My only complaint is.... where are the rest of them? As someone who's tried to learn this game, these two first videos were the best of what's out there. Unfortunately, it's not quite enough info to get started. Do you plan on releasing additional videos in this series/playlist? Did you not get enough views to warrant making more? I for one would LOVE more tutorial videos for the vanilla version of this game (and I think I can speak for all us newcomers), especially from Modred Viking!!!

@spatrk6634
@spatrk6634 2 жыл бұрын
every paradox game is focused on some aspect, like hoi4 is focused on economy and warfare, ck3 is focused on diplomacy and dynasty management but eu4 is jack of all trades, it tries to focus on everything. colonization is pretty easy, you colonize provinces, and when you get 5 fully colonized provinces in the new world, they become your colonial nation which functions kind of like a vassal, they make their own troops have their own ideas and technologies and continue colonizing on their own.... they basically become another nation that is under your rule, that help you in wars and contribute to your economy, when colonial nation gets 10 fully colonized provinces, they provide you with extra merchant for you to use, colonial nations have their own regions they colonize, certain regions in new world will get you other colonial nations which colonize their own regions, like colonial brazil, colonial columbia, etc... but if they become stronger than you, they may declare independence war. unlike other subjects you can have, colonial nations cannot be integrated. you cannot have direct control of the land in new world, unless you have capital in the new world easiest way to learn the game is by trial and error. as every paradox game, tutorials are either useless or over extensive.

I'm fairly sure you don't need to have a merchant in your home trading province (which can be separate from you capital) to collect money from there. Instead assigning a merchant there will just boost the yield by something like 20%. Also collecting from more than one place doesn't incur any further penalties. Collecting from NOT your home trade province just has a flat penalty applied to your trade power, which lowers your share of the pie. Unless you've actually gone ahead and changed the underlying mechanics in the last patch. Whether or not you should have a merchant assigned to your home trade node to boost the income is a value calculation that usually, but not always, means that you do want to do that early game. But if the value of transferring trade from an adjacent or further node is higher than the boost on the yield then obviously you want all of your merchants transferring power instead. Having chained merchants also incrementally boosts the amount flowing down your path.
@ParadoxGrandStrategy
@ParadoxGrandStrategy 2 жыл бұрын
Very good points, you do not *need* to have a merchant stationed in your home node but I do advise players that generally they should because it does boost the amount you make quite significantly. Makes me realise that I forgot to talk about moving the Trade Capital, ah well.

The key concept is that trade flows towards end nodes and you use your merchants to control the flow of that trade. You want to collect in the highest value node where you have good trade power, and make the trade flow from other nodes into yours. Note that collecting trade in more than one node (yes, your capital trade node's automatic collecting counts) will drammatically decrease your trade power multiplier. Experiment with moving merchants and check your trade income after they arrive to their assigned node.
@ruukinen
@ruukinen 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call a 10% penalty dramatical. Also if you have a lot of trade power in an end node that is not your home trade node, then you should consider also collecting from there. Honestly it's as easy a question as 'Do I make more money in the end if I do this', barring some niche cases were you want to deny trade from other players (the Ai is beyond incompetent so hamstringing it wont really benefit you).
@ParadoxGrandStrategy
@ParadoxGrandStrategy 2 жыл бұрын
It's not 10%, its usually somewhere between 50% and 70% trade power reduction, hence we recommend only collecting in one node unless you're *sure* you can control both. You also lose the trade power bonus from merchants chaining trade to your home node, which is 10% trade power per merchant- that can add up very quickly.

I have a few more questions about trading. What confuses me are the numbers. For example, Venice has a trade value of 11 and I have 56%. I earn 16.3 there with my merchant. How is that calculated? I don't understand the number on the ships. For example, I'm promised a profit much higher than what I'm not transfering yet. So what is this profit, because it is obviously not additional income in ducats. If I don't use a merchant, then the transfer value drops to 0. So all my Trading Influence will be lost.

Wow..... it's evident to me by now that I bit off more than I can chew buying this game. 🤯The learning curve seems immense and the type of people who do well with and/or enjoy this game basically play it 20-40 hours a week. I think this tutorial does the best it can given the game's complexity, but maybe it would be better to jump in to a new game and introduce these maps and features as you go along. Because right now yes I get trade is important and all that, but I'd still be lost at how to implement in game. Just a thought

You mention that it gives you a massive penalty to collect in multiple places, but i actually can't find that anywhere. What is the penalty called? I ask because in my current game I am collecting in Genoa and English channel as france, but steering all my trade to Genoa.
@ParadoxGrandStrategy
@ParadoxGrandStrategy 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's literally called "collecting in multiple trade nodes" - check the trade node itself and hover over what you are earning there. Either that, or the Trade Power in that node, cannot remember off hand.

@koffmann1689

If you collect on your main trade node you gain 10% bonus (because you collect even tho you don't have a merchant there), if your main trade node is Genoa then collect in Venice and use your Genoese merchant to collect or transfer elsewhere, Sevilla for example. You have to test it to see in which setup you make more money to this you make the interaction then wait for the merchant to be positioned and in the next month it will show on the trade tab your trade income if it increased.
@ontheskay6908
@ontheskay6908 2 жыл бұрын
@@koffmann1689 So basically you are saying to collect in both of them. Passively or with a merchant.
@koffmann1689
@koffmann1689 2 жыл бұрын
@@ontheskay6908 I'm saying that you CAN make more money transfering trade or collecting elsewhere outside of your main trade node. Just to put into perspective: Genoa has: 10 Ducats When collecting with a merchant: Genoa has: 11 Ducats When transfering with a merchant from sevilla: Genoa has: 15 Ducats You almost always want to collect/transfer outside of your main trade node instead of directly. If you have a big percentage of the pie in a trade node and it's not your main trade node then is better not to transfer, but to collect! You have 70% trade power on Sevilla: If you collect you'll earn 70%, if you transfer you'll end up dividing that 70% with other countries on your main trade node. You'll want all that pizza just for you so you get filthy rich and eat more! Don't share it with anyone.
