@jillciminillo I personally love the HD pickups still have column shifter unlike the trend in Fullsize pickups to do console. Console shifter are horrible waste of space where you could have useable space for storage, drinks, etc. and don't have to life your drink over a chunky console shifter (needless fat/chunky console shifter trend makes this worse than if they used a sleek consoler shifter). You do get use to shifting a column shifter very quickly. And, one tip is you don't need to continually pull the shifter towards you as you shift, as that could contribute to overshooting your shift. For example and for your experimentation, shift the column shifter into reverse. then, without pulling the shifter towards you, simply push the shifter down. The shift goes through neutral and into Drive, and will not overshoot it. Been a design of column shifter for as long as I can remember and works very slick. Works similar when shifting from Park to Drive. The trick is letting off pressure (pulling towards you) a bit sooner so the shift more naturally locks into Drive.

Maneuvering that around in a townhouse environ is similar to towing a 40 foot fifth wheel camper down a 4 lane interstate all day with a Prius. Swap the two vehicles , and it makes sense. Yes, I’d love to have that truck as our family camping trip truck ( I already drive a 3500hd High Country as my daily). I wish my High Country was as nice looking inside, but do I HAVE to have it, probably not). Until I pulled our camper 8 hours thru mountains, I under-appreciated how much more relaxed I was towing with these beasts. Now I have a better tolerance for dealing with the everyday drawbacks of the beast. Fortunately my truck barely fits in our garage, and the door will still close.

Yeah... This is why I find a midsize truck is the most utilitarian truck for a person to own. These HD trucks are really good for those who want to tow heavy things and are really more for those operating a business than a single family. Even full size trucks feel too big for normal living yet they are the most popular vehicles to go with. If you live in an even more dense city I feel like the Maverick is really the best option if you want a bed on your vehicle.
@blutomindpretzel263
@blutomindpretzel263 Жыл бұрын
While the bed of a midsize truck would be enough for most people, it’s the inside space that’s a problem. I need a full size truck because I tow a camper that would be too heavy with a small truck but I would still at the very least own a 1500 crew cab. My ‘21 Sierra cab is a great size for me, my wife, two kids, and dog.

To answer your thought, TFL did a video on why new trucks seem so gigantic. It has to do with the demand for super high capacity and towing numbers. To reach those figures they need massive radiators to effectively cool those massive diesel engines.

I am a smaller woman with kids and I bought this truck! I LOVE it!!! I do live in a more rural area, but do drive it to pittsburgh for the airport, zoo, and children's hospital. I do not park it in a garage at home, but do park in tight underground garage in the city. I have to say after driving a Ram 2500 for last few years this truck turns so much better. As with all 2500 size trucks I usually try to take 2 parking spaces because of the length and if people park tight on both sides it is impossible to get out. The cameras are amazing, you can see the curb to see distance. Once you get used to driving them they are amazing! I do haul trailers for my husband's construction jobs and do use it for some work, but I do like to keep it clean because it is beautiful!!!

Short women and the shifters... the handle shifter it perfect to adjust volume from on top if tall, yoir arm just rests on the shifter. Also, pulling the shifter down will automatically go to drive if you pull straight down, you're trying to click each gear. Reverse, you push up into neutral then click to reverse, then pull straight down to drive. Push the handle up and down, not click it down. Mirrors are for towing, also you have the top mirror to high off the ground so you can't see bike lane. Convex Mirror is for other cars in lanes for blind spots and tight spaces. City people criticism, it's a work truck not a pavement princess in case it snows.

I build luxury new homes. Standard rules (1) minimum 2 car garage 25x25. Better standard is 3 car garage 37x26. (2) always use 8’ tall doors minimum. I often build the 3rd car bays with 10’x10’ doors and bump the bay out an additional 2’ so the bay is 12.5’ wide by 28’ deep. Otherwise a 1/2 ton short bed crew will fit in a 22x18 ok but plan on touching bumper to wall.

The well heeled buy those type trucks everyday: RV'ers, construction workers, and hotshotters. It is also unlikely they'll worry about "working" that gorgeous vehicle, just another expensive tool or toy depending. If you can afford luxury and comfort while you have to drive 100,000 miles a year you can have it. You wouldn't even notice the operation of the transmission selector after a few weeks, maybe the dash visibility would bother me, can't say without driving with that setup for a few weeks. There are many trade-offs involved in excellence during towing and hauling, radiator size is one big one, mirror size is another one, fuel economy, parking, maneuverability , etc.

People buy these to haul ATVs, horse trailers and campers. I took delivery of My Chevy Silverado 3500 last week. Today was the first time I drove in town, a lot. Yes the mirrors do create a pretty big blind spot. You really need to be very vigilant. Parking is just going to be harder. I am coming from a ‘96 Dodge 2500 4X4. The turn radius is much tighter than this new truck. It is My single biggest gripe. Having said that, I live out in the country, and have a large shop to park it in. This truck is a great cruiser out on the open Freeway. It really feels planted to the road, and the adaptive cruise control is a game-changer. These trucks are pretty big, and a little clunky, but they are very capable. With time I am sure I will adapt to It’s handling quirks. By the way, You handled that truck in some very tight quarters. Good Job!
