LYRICS
Standing here like I’m supposed to say something
Don’t hold your breath
I never said I’d save you honey
And I don’t want your money
If I’s you I’d run from me
Or rip me open
You’ll see you’re not the only one who’s hopeless
Be sure to put your faith
In something more
I’m just a girl and you’re
Not as alone as you feel
We all got problems don’t we?
We all need heroes don’t we?
But rest assured there’s not a single person here who’s worthy
Don’t let me let you down
Hey baby I’m not
Your superhuman
And if that’s what you want
I hate to let you down
I got your hopes up
Now I got you hoping
But I’m gonna be the one to let you down
Oh it’s such a long and awful lonely fall
Down from this pedestal
That you keep putting me on
What if I fall on my face
What if I make a mistake
If it’s okay, a little grace would be appreciated!
Remember how we used to like ourselves?
What little light that’s left
We need to keep it sacred
I know that you’re afraid to
Let all the dark escape you
But we could let the light illuminate these hopeless places
Just let me let you down
Hey baby I’m not
Your superhuman
And if that’s what you want
I hate to let you down
I got your hopes up
Now I got you hoping
But I’m gonna be the one to let you down
Oh no I ain’t your hero
You’re wasting all your faith on me
Oh no I know where this goes
Think it’s safe to say your savior doesn’t look a thing like me
Don’t let me let you down
Hey baby I’m not
Your superhuman
And if that’s what you want
I hate to let you down
I got your hopes up
Now I got you hoping
But I’m gonna be the one to let you down
Hey baby I’m not
Your superhuman
And if that’s what you want
I hate to let you down
I got your hopes up
Now I got you hoping
But I’m gonna be the one to let you down

I feel like this song is for all the fans that used to tell Paramore "your music saved my life" and then when their style changed, bashed them for it. Paramore isn't there to help you get over your problems and mental illnesses. They're sharing something with the world with every song they put out there & the pressure of "your music was supposed to make me feel better about myself/my life" must have been really hard on them.

This album feels so authentic. like, damn, they're real people living real lives, you know? Every other artist seem so perfect and unattainable, making us believe that their lives are perfect and it must be great to be them. That's why I love Paramore, and especially this album, it's honest, it's made by the heart.

Every insane K-pop stan needs to give this song a good, long listen to realize artists aren't here to save your life. You can be inspired and uplifted by music but you can't demand that it caters to your issues over the artists' own desires.

TheDreRock Such an underrated song! And one of my favorites! Of course, I've been a fan since the beginning, and choosing favorites just goes with whatever is going on in life at the time! I met Hayely when she was a little girl in Tennessee; my sister and I "babysat" her and a couple of other kids at someone's pool while we were visiting our grandmother. Nothing special, like "Oh, she'd totally remember us!" or anything, but she was VERY unforgettable! So we were happy to see her on the big screen singing, because she wouldn't stop singing the whole time we were with her, lol! But we loved it! We sang mostly hymns, and I've always loved the fact that , even in the darkest hours, she still manages to slip in the light that cannot be extinguished! I love the allegory in the beginning of this song of being an idol, and what do you give to idols? things of value, usually, money! Unfortunately, a lot of people have not quite made that connection, but I think they'll get it once they realize this song is not at all meant to hurt any fans! Unfortunately, their is a lot of self-loathing, and I pray she, and others will stay in in the light of Christ and know just how much we ALL are worth! I know there's a good age Gap here, but I love this generation so much! You have done so many wonderful things we only talked about! Fight the good fight with brotherly Kindness! We ARE Family, because we are all God's children! Let's treat each other the way we want to be treated ourselves! I know and have seen so many of you making that happen already! You have amazing God-given talents and gifts, don't let anything or anyone make you doubt them or where they come from! It is true, you are not a!one, and everything does happen for a reason! But everything works to the good of those that love God! And nothing can separate us from the love of God! For if God be for us, who can be against us?! Keep on, because you have our support! And you have all my love! Have a wonderful day, week, year and life! May God bless and keep you guide you and all who journey with you! All my love in Christ, Koe` @-%-- Acts 2, 2 Peter ch.2, John ch.1, 3:1-6 Romans 6:1-6, Galations 3:27,Acts 8:26-end, Psalms 1,2,3,4 some verses about salvation, faith, and comfort!

And what hurts is I've seen some fans denying this claim God, I feel so bad for Hayley. She's gained some decent fame but now she's in a terrible place in her life along with Taylor iirc and while things have been getting better things still fucking hurt. Can we please send genuine, authentic help somehow? In the rare chance Paramore sees this is there anything the fans can do to actually try and help through your current position in life?

This song hits harder now than it did when After Laughter initially dropped. Especially now that parasocial relationships are more prevalent than ever. People, please remember that artists are humans. They make mistakes just like we do. Continue to hold people accountable for their actions, but try to be understanding when someone has an honest to god screw up.

I like how they used, "Idle," instead of, "Idol." Because if someone is idling it means that they're not really doing anything. So by the phrase, "Idle Worship," it mean that's by worshiping them, we're actually worshipping nothing. They don't want to be worshipped as an Idol, so we need to stop treating them as if they're untouchable because they're human too. Not, "superhuman."

ok this song has to be about those fans that put musicians up on pedestals and say they saved them. like this is Haley quite literally saying "sorry to let you down, but i didn't save you. im not that great" i mean,,, "be sure to put your faith in something more. im just a girl and you're not as alone as you feel" "it's such a long and awful lonely fall down from this pedestal you keep putting me on" "what if i fall on my face what if i make a mistake" "im not your superhuman" "id hate to let you down" "i ain't your hero" "you're wasting all your faith on me" "your savior doesn't look a thing like me" come on you can't tell me this song isn't about that :P

I love how transparent and honest this whole record is. It's so refreshing to hear someone, in this case Hayley, say just exactly how they feel with zero sugar coating. I just got back from the store, where I bought a copy of the record and I am SO glad that I didn't just write the band off, because I almost did. I've been a fan since the beginning and was bummed when all the members just crumbled and the band became disillusioned and a shell of it's former self, but you know what, people change and grow up and that's ok. I accept all of them for who they are and wherever they are at in their own, personal lives, whether they are in the band anymore or not. Most of all, I STILL LOVE YOU, after all these years!!!!! PARAWHORE 4 LIFE and i'm 29 years old!!!!!

I listend to Hard times, and on its own its kind of just a generic pop/80s/indie song thats sounds up beat and is ironically very negative. I was disappointed, but then I listened to the rest of the album, and it is BITING, so much raw emotion and the band expressing their true feelings, especially hayley. This song for example is sooooo good because she's just tearing into all those fans who never really loved Paramore but what Paramore could do or "be" for them. This album is gold. And this is coming from someone who has listened to Paramore for over a decade.
@perryabruz6846

I think the song is about the concept of how people tend to deumanize the celebrity. I love this song because I often think people don't realize that dehumanizing someone doesn't just mean thinking or acting as if that person is inferior, but it also happens when you think that person is superior; because putting someone on a pedestal is just a way to put it to another level from yours, is a way to refuse to feel empathy: "what if i fall on my face what if i make a mistake" celebrity is no longer perceived as human but as a product on which you reflect your dreams, so she can't afford to fall from that pedestal, otherwise It would break the divine illusion you wanted to create. Then Hayley sings how beautiful it would be if people began to believe in the light that is in each of us as humans: "Remember how we used to like ourselves? What little light that’s left, we need to keep it sacred, I know that you’re afraid to let all the dark escape ya, but we could let the light illuminate these hopeless places" if we came back to believe in that light then we would no longer need to create a divine figure to cling to, because in that case it's just the humanity what unites us with the celebrity, and that makes us feel connected with her.

Idle Worship” was written based on Hayley Williams' realization that she isn’t the person fans and people around her think she is. She has long been a prominent figure in the pop punk/emo scene due to her unique vocals and charisma. The celebrity aspect of being in that role led to people idolizing her. The title is a play on the phrase “idol worship”. By implying an “idle worship”, fans are challenged to not mindlessly accept celebrity culture and worship.

Well, in response to the lyrics, she has never disappointed me as a fan. Paramore has helped me through middle school, high school, college, depression, anxiety, bad days, good days. I feel like every time they change up the style of the music, I'm changing with them. Everyone else gets so mad that they've changed, but I'm thinking, are you the same as who you were when you first became a Paramore fan?? No. I'll support anything they do!

I love how the band is honest in this song about how they feel when people idolize them and act like they are perfect and then act all disappointed when they do something they think they shouldn't. I love how this song comes to say that they are humans too and they also make bad decisions and change.

I had to cut that friendship bc i felt so trapped and i knew that kind of relationship was gonna end up with my emotional health.

my interpretation of the song: its a response to all the people who say “you saved my life” to artists and paramore. While music can be a coping mechanism, saying that it saved your life can put an incredible amount of pressure on a person. As a person who suffers from mental illness, i use music as a coping mechanism but i can never say that the artist saved my life because they do not know me and they are not responsible for my actions. Idolizing a person can be harmful in both ways. It can put an immense amount of pressure on a person and it can make a person be too dependent on a person. Do not confuse idolizing an artist or person and just liking them and their music.

Can someone please stop for a moment and actually listen to what she's singing? I'm super excited too, but all she's talking about on this song and No Friend is about how she's so tired of having the pressure of the fans and media who put her on a pedestal and have such high expectations on her, thinking they know her better than herself by their music and news she's on, but she's just one more of us with her own problems to solve and having all that weight on her shoulders is just too much for a girl. It really makes me sad to think she felt that way for too long she had to turn it into a song to be listened to. But I guess that's the high price of fame.

Hey don't forget the part where she sings about us looking for someone/something better to put our hope on. That's what I think the song means for us to take away. More than the sadness/pain she's singing about that she can't be what fans put up her to be.

WonderWoman yeah, i understand where you're coming from. but i think it would be nice to take into account the last verse to No Friend, which serves as Idle Worship's outro "I see myself in the reflection of people’s eyes Realizing what they see may not be even close to the image I see in myself And I think I might actually be more afraid I feel like they know the story* I saw a bear floating in the river and thought it was a fur coat Twelve years ago, I stood on the shore Jumped in and grabbed the coat And the river is rushing toward a waterfall And my friend stood at the shore and shouted to let go of the coat And swim back to land I let go of the coat but the coat won’t let go of me *In any case please let know if there’s more I can give you If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful" It's not so much disowning the people who have been here through all these years, but instead is about facing up to something that's been put on their shoulders, and acknowledging they/her can't be that.
@ReiHino555
@ReiHino555 7 жыл бұрын
David Joshua Santiago yeah you are right and I am so glad I get to talk about this with someone. I guess this really is something that has been eating her up. I just wasn't sure about some of the phrases she used like' you're no friend of mine ' or especially "I don't want your money"... well writing from the perspective of a very very rich person and not acknowledging that if it weren't for the money spent by thousands of teenagers to buy merch and cd's she would not be here complaining about said teenagers it seems really ignorant and saddens me. I do understand there must be frustration but this is literally how she got to where she is. so of course she doesn't need our money NOW. yet the album is not free, tickets are not free, not even mentioning parahoy costs... it is obvious she deserves to earn as much money as it is possible but to say that she doesn't need it while still selling music and show and also living of off the money that kids gave them years ago by supporting them is a little disrespectful.

The reason why i've always considered Hayley an inspiration is because she's not perfect. Because somehow i found her struggles relatable. But i was always concerned about exactly this, because i know how it feels when people rely on you with so high expectations (my family used to do this to me until i had a breakdown). I guess she found a way to express it. This album is really interesting and I love it

A lot of bands feel the same way as she apparently does, they hate being idolized. A song producer I'm a huge fan of made a song about how they wish people would stop worshiping them, claiming they weren't good enough to know that person, and sending death threats to anyone who dared to criticize them. Being a musician with thousands of young fans is hard.

- Royal - I just appreciate the inclusivity of the term and that it lends itself to picturing anyone in any circumstance ("superhuman" being more neutral and expressing power/strength), rather than immediately jumping to "superman" which automatically has a specific person/gender/character/story to it and more readily is associated with super/hero/ than a normal human. Using superman isn't inherently bad by any means, it's just boring/overplayed.

The lyrics make my heart sting. I think most of us don't want them to be superhuman or perfect. As for me, I'm in love with their achievements + imperfections conjointly, so somehow Paramore is never going to let me down. All of us have weaknesses and this band baring theirs is what makes them so relatable. The way they deal with their own problems gives me strength. All in all, I can't get over what a bop this song is. I'm more in love.
