Filming the whole initial invasion would most likely require more budget, similar to World War Z. That was a depiction of an actual zombie invasion. This movie instead relied on small limited horror scenes similar to The Mist and a drama of a dying woman wants to relieve her depression by getting a Pizza which’s symbolic of her childhood and home.

I agree, wanted to see more of how the government and the army failed. Whats even worse is that we already know that the military quickly learned that they can’t swim, and now with this movie, the military apparently knows on day one that they hunt with sound. That said, here’s what I think happened with the military. Judging by the jets flying over before the invasion started, and the humvees and cop cars driving by the store, I think the military probably was tracking where the asteroid fragments would hit, and deployed troops and emergency services to those areas. Also we saw Eric walk past a destroyed tank and some army trucks, which could only have gotten there on day 1 given the bridges were destroyed. I also think its possible they used helicopters and jets to lure the creatures into manhattan, away from staten island, the bronx, queens, jersey, etc (forgive me if i got that wrong, I don’t live there), and then blew up the bridges to trap them there because they can’t swim. I don’t recall seeing much destruction outside manhattan, so maybe they only landed there. Anyways, on day 2 we see several coast guard ships at the docks. This part is purely speculation since the info is limited, but basically a quiet place part 2 implies that the docks were overrun pretty fast because evidently people traveling in large groups can be quite loud, but this movie seems to imply the ships were docked for days, which is interesting given that we literally see the people fleeing there getting cut down by the monsters. Anyways I bring this up because if the ships really were there for several days, its possible the military tried to lure most of the monsters away to madison square garden or something, because I mean we do see several helicopters passing overhead. Tldr: pure speculation but this is what I think the military could have done during the movie.

This movie was great! Not as good as the first two, but to be fair, that's a REALLY high bar! Day One still had cool creature action, suspense, and an emotional story! The only thing I didn't like was that Marco Beltrami didn't return to score and BOY does it show! One of the best things about the other two Quiet Place films was the soundtrack! When the music needed to be scary, it was TERRIFYING! When it needed to be emotional, it was GUT-WRENCHING! I... didn't really get much of that here aside from during the pizza/magic trick scene and the subway flood scene. Gosh, I missed Marco Beltrami during this movie!
