i have the FDE ATACR 7-35 with the Tremor3 reticle and the NF Unimount. I’m willing to accept that people can prefer some of its competitors…but i am 100% satisfied in knowing I have a superior optic with unmatched toughness and reliability. Paired with my Daniel Defense DD5 V5 in 6.5CDM I have achieved .5MOA groupings. With that being said I do my due diligence to learn about other offerings.

The tracking on the ZCO and the NF are great. When I did the test side by side they both were with-in the accepted limit according to Bryan Litz without having to make adjustments at longer ranges. Both of these optics are phenomenal and both will get the job done in almost any situation. The ZCO in my option may make that situation a little easier to accomplish, but the NF can get it done. To be honest, both of these optics will out perform 90% of shooters out there once you get to some distance. 600 yards+ I believe your scores are spot on.

Great video... I have three razors and am looking forward to buying an atacr soon. The value in the razor has always been there, but i do believe the atacr glass and traditional/proven design lends for an excellent option where it is more durable, clear, and tracks without flaws.

FYI: My buddy ran into the same problem with his ZCO locking turrets not unlocking. He slightly loosened his set screws on the caps and it fixed it. I'm guessing if you overtighten the turret caps it can impede the unlocking of the turret.

9:30 I’m guessing someone didn’t have it in the correct position when they set the windage zero turret screws. You can make the windage turret stick if you set it to zero if you tighten the screws down in the incorrect position. I can’t remember if it’s too far in or too far out. If that happens loosen the screws on the windage and get it in correct spot and retighten. Then test to make sure you turret locks and unlocks and dials fine. I just got a Spuhr mount for my 5-27. I’ll have to re zero my gun. When I do I’ll see if I can recreate that and update my comment. Ray is super experienced so it’s likely something else he ran into. This just come to mind cause I had a similar issue but I knew I created it by operator error because it was working fine before I set it. After I did it correctly it was fine.

I just chose between these two scopes for my ELR gun. As you say, there are two fine scopes. I finally chose the ZCO 527 as it felt a bit sharper. If I understood correctly, ZCO also has its roots in Nightforce and Kales. I am very happy with my ZCO. I have put on Tennebrake lens cover. I think they feel cheap and flimsy. I also own a Delta Javelin which is an inexpensive scope. The lens covers that come with this are the best I've had. This on a $1000 scope.

Gary, I really appreciate the series and in depth review. I recently purchased a Vortex Razor HD Gen III 6-36, but haven’t received it yet and already have buyers remorse I’m torn between the Vortex, Leupold Mark 5 5-25, NF ATACR 7-35 and now the ZCO527 My primary usage for the optic is Elk hunting (shooting 175gr 28 Nosler) and enjoy ELR in the off season. I like the weight of the Mark 5. However, I’ve heard mixed bag reviews of the Mark 5 not holding 0. Same issue with the Vortex and that’s not to mention the weight. I’m leaning towards returning the Vortex and purchasing the ZCO through your website. I was wondering if you had any first hand experience on how these optics (NF/ZCO) compared to the Mark 5 or Razor?
@paramounttactical
@paramounttactical 11 ай бұрын
I have a fair amount of experience on the Vortex HD Gen III, the Leupold Mark 5 (we’re also a Leupold dealer) and have been primarily running the ATACR 7-35 and the 5-25 for the last 3 years. My main rifle has the 7-35 on it, so I’ve been using that probably 75% of the time. Here’s how’d I’d rate those. Leupold Mark 5, Vortex HD, ATACR 5-25, ATACR 7-35, then a decent margin down the road, the ZCO 5-27 and 8-40. I’ll be honest, I just really love everything about the ZCO. They are my new favorite optics. The glass is unbelievable and everything about them is just so well designed and it looks better (let’s not pretend looks don’t matter) than all the others with all the performance to boot. I’ll throw another one at you that you really should consider, the Zeiss LRP S3 6-36. I really do think it’s on par with the ATACR 7-35 but it’s $2500. I’ll be doing a full video review on it but have enough time using it now to forcefully recommend. It’s the best value out there. The only negative I have about it at all is limited but really good reticles and I don’t like how it looks. It looks like a European optic.🤷‍♂️ Other than that, I think it’s so much optic for the money. But… when you don’t want to compromise on anything, there’s only one left. I’ve learned, don’t settle on an optic. That extra money is nothing compared to the nagging feeling you get when you buy an item just to save a few bucks but then you don’t love it. We’ve all been there and you end up selling it later at a loss and didn’t enjoy owning it. Feel free to give me a call on the business line and I’d be happy to discuss. Thanks for watching! -Gary

No Josh, and honestly March Optics aren't on my list and likely won't be. They don't offer optics or reticles that interest me personally and I have a LOOONG list of optics that do that I will likely be testing. I also have a real problem with an optic that offers an 80x mag but only has a 56mm Obj lens. That means your exit pupil is .7mm. You'd have such a small amount of light getting to your eye that most of that magnification range would be just trash. I see that optic as a company preying on people's lack of technical knowledge about scopes in general. I'm sure there are some reviews out there already. Even if I did review it I literally have over a years worth of videos lined up so it'd be a long time. @@savagegentleman3583 I think the Kahles glass is better than the NF. I like the idea of a left hand wind turret but I’d need to spend some time on it before I “liked” it but I do think it’s a smarter design. The only negative I remember from my time on the K525i was I felt the eye box produced a smaller image compared to the NF. But I do think the image and glass quality is better than NF. I totally get why so many people love them. They’re excellent, innovative, and well designed optics.
@savagegentleman3583
@savagegentleman3583 11 ай бұрын
@@paramounttactical Thanks again! Yeah, something that has popped up that I didn’t think about beforehand with the layout of the Kahles optic. My MDT Send It has to be mounted inverted on the side because it blocks reading and quickly adjusting the windage turret; it’s for sure more critical than just being in the way of the parallax knob of most optics that isn’t critical to have to see the knob like on a windage adjustment. The other thing comes with the parallax adjustment of the Kahles. I feel the spinner is almost a must for it and reduces the number of usable scope mounts and rings to prevent the spinner from striking it. To complicate it further, if you want a diving board on the front ring for a WMLRF, it requires a very wide spacing between rings; the best one I have found for it thus far has been discontinued by Spuhr; the SP-4003b. I hope they bring it back; the current extended base, the SP-4002c, is not long enough to provide good eye relief and allow for room for a diving board on the front of the Kahles.
@paramounttactical
@paramounttactical 11 ай бұрын
@@savagegentleman3583 That's good intel right there. I had thought of the Send It running into issues with the left side windage but hadn't thought at all about the other considerations you brought up. The "every solution begets other problems" axiom seems to be in full effect here. I hold almost everything and definitely hold all windage. I personally think it's just a better way to shoot in general. The only time I really use the windage turret is for zeroing. So the left hand windage knob in my mind is a solution in search of a problem. I may rarely use my windage turrets but I use my parallax constantly, almost every shot or at least before drastic range adjustments. So the parallax adjust on top is less convenient and actually reduces economy of motion. With the way I shoot and the way I teach people to shoot, the standard configuration is more ideal. All that said, I still like Kahles and believe they make excellent optics that are overall on par with NF. I need to do some detailed testing and comparative work before I could say for sure, but from what I know and have experienced, I believe they're a solid company making exceptional optics.

How do you think these compared to the Zeiss S3? Since you mentioned x-ring, I know he reviewed it and really liked. It I know that it’s about half the price but it does seem to have a lot of the same features. Obviously I’m sure there’s going to be a bit of a sacrifice in quality but as a photographer Zeiss makes some of the best lenses on the planet and for $2000 it seems like it would probably be at least in the same ballpark as some of these it’s still made in Japan which is a good sign
@paramounttactical

The S3 punches way above its weight. It’s what Ray and I are using on our student guns for our XP Long Range Academy courses. Right now they’re on sale on our site for 25% off until the end of the year. I do think they’re comparable to the NF ATACR and probably the 7-35 is more comparable given their 6-36 mag (they do make a 4-25x but the obj is 50mm) The glass is remarkable. It’s the best Japanese glass I’ve ever seen. The only real downside is the limited options for reticles and other features. At the end when I say there’s cheaper scopes that are close I said that with the s3 in mind. I’d say the S3 is 95% or more of what the NF ATACR is and it is better in some areas. I think the glass is actually better and it does have locking turrets all for under $2K right now… that’s unbelievable. I plan on doing a full comparison soon. The price gap is hard to justify given just how good the S3 really is and both Ray and I believe it’s the best optic under $3K right now and it’s hard to believe you can get it under $2K until the end of the year. Thanks for watching and MERRY CHRISTMAS! -Gary

Everywhere I read says the nightforce tunnels at about 7.5x just like the S&B 5-25. Not sure if it's true but pretty much everyone else says so

LOL! Had and competed with 2 for over a year and a half. They had the best turrets and zero set in the business. I had to send one back due to gasket failure and fogged up internally. Also, the contrast wasn’t the best when shooting in the desert. Sold them both and will not be going back.

Tangent Theta is the best. I say this as an owner of 3 Schmidt & Benders, and 2 NF ATACRs and a Kahles 6-24 (and zero Tangent Thetas). I'm not sure there's even a debate at this point.
@paramounttactical
@paramounttactical 10 ай бұрын
Oh there is a very real and lively debate on that topic, and there's plenty to critique about the Tangent Theta. I'll be doing a comparison review soon but I can tell you right now that I know 10+ shooters and tons that email me or DM me that had Tangents and sold them because they were so disappointed in them. Do I think they're amazing optics? Yes. Are they better than ZCO? A LOT of people that have owned or do own both say they think the ZCO's are better. Some of it comes down to features and preference. I can tell you from my experience that the image and eye box on the Tangents seem much smaller than the ZCO. We'll likely end up carrying them but to pretend that it's just settled and that Tangents are just inarguably better isn't true. Thanks for watching! -Gary

@@paramounttacticalThe image size is what high end binocular manufacturers refer to as apparent fov. It is what makes the experience so much more pleasant. A 420 ft real true fov binocular can take up 67 degrees of your vision while another binocular with a 420 ft true fov might only take us 55 degrees. The size of the image is what immerses us in the image. So your saying ZCO has a higher apparent fov which makes a lot of sense as it usually takes a bigger eyepiece to accomplish this. Thanks for doing these reviews for us

It’s totally worth it in my opinion. Disclaimer: we’re a dealer but we’re a dealer because I like ZCO so much. I will be doing a full review… that’s not correct. I’ve already reviewed it personally and love it. As soon as I have time, I’ll be making a YT video on what about and why it’s so good. As far as reticle, MPCT 3X. @@paramounttactical, that’s not a great difference as I was thinking Tremor3 v Tremor3. If I did not have the largest NF dealer 35 min from me the ZCO would have been considered. Its **AWESOME** to know the differences. Thank you for the outstanding review. 🙏🏽

First of all anyone that doesnt like NF MOAR T reticle can just go sleep with the fishes. insanity... (MOA MAFIA FOREVER) LMAO. OH, i think the categories are good but everyone needs to weight those personally. The reliability/durability rating carries MUCH more weight to me then value per se. That one category should be twice the weighting of any other category to me. Doesnt matter if the glass is sexy if the turrets broken... Im really digging the ZCO but not enough to sell my ATACR. That scope will be her until I break it or I die.. Tell you what though, I would trade my NF NXS 8-32 MOA for a ZCO or Ziess in 25x and up in MIL so i can be part of the cool guys. I'm not nearly as much of a fan of the NXS line.
@paramounttactical
@paramounttactical 11 ай бұрын
I agree on durability being a major factor, if not the most important. That said, the ZCO could potentially be just as durable and reliable but only time will tell. Durability rating also needs a larger sample than one to gauge properly. Even if I beat the one I have with a hammer and it still worked fine it’s only a sample of one. Look at us agreeing…🤮 There is some sense left in your MOA head.

Well you're welcome to buy one and bang away on it. If you own optics now I'm willing to bet you never saw a single drop test on them or any impacts on them and yet bought them anyway. Here you have an optic taking hits more than anything you've seen and yet it's not compelling enough for you... 🤷‍♂️ One thing I've learned from you YT is you will not please everyone.

@@paramounttactical The issue is that you called it a drop test. Most of my rifles have taken harder drops from me throwing the bags in the back of my truck to go to the range. It’s not a make or break, just annoying.

NF is hardly the best scope. Seen and heard of too many failures with them. Not as indestructible as they claim, plus their glass isn't even on par to leupold or zeiss, let alone ZC, kahles, or Schmidt and Bender. NF is over rated for their price and I own one. Nice scope for around $1500, but I wouldn't pay a dollar more for them.
