"He's basically writing to save his life at this point." One thing I remember liking from the book, that would have been clunky to include in the movie since it's all internal monologue, was how Paul came to identify with Sheherazade. She's the character in the framing device of 1001 Nights/Arabian Nights, who has become married to a sultan famous for killing his wives and has to keep inventing stories with exciting cliffhangers night after night to make sure he won't kill her in the morning.

@davidmeir9348Ай бұрын
Actually, @MaryCherryOfficial, you got two points from the book spot on in your end commentary. In the book, the hobbling is by sawing his foot and cauterizing it with a blowtorch. Incredibly graphic and gore was not the direction Rob Reiner wanted to go with this film which is why it was changed. The scene in the film is still chilling, even without blood and I don't know anyone, even on repeated viewing who doesn't instinctively cringe when she breaks his foot. A testament to the effectiveness of the film. The other thing is, and you were spot on, in the book, it's made clear that while she was spying him at the Silver Creek Motel, she took the occasion to tamper with his car breaks which is why she knew he'd have the accident. Book Annie is straight off the bat a violent and unhinged psycho, Kathy Bates did a much more nuanced portrayal of her and she absolutely killed the role. James Caan was also outstanding. So impressed was Stephen King that he wrote the 1992 psychological drama Dolores Clairbone with Kathy Bates in mind and she did appear in the cinematic adaptation in 1995 (worth watching). Another movie you should watch with her is the one she starred in after Misery, in 1991, Fried Green Tomatoes. Beautiful movie, I'm sure you'll love it. Her role is so different in it that you'd be hard pressed to believe it's the same actress which is just another proof of her immense talent.
