GB2 didn't come to America most likely due to some rights talk with Wizards of the Coast. This is pure speculation, but the Pokemon Company took over running the TCG in the West from Wizards of the Coast in 2003, so it's very possible that in 2001 they were looking forward at that not wanting to sign any new licensing deals.
@bapjap3 жыл бұрын
That’s half correct, many of the cards were Japanese-exclusive vending pack cards and didn’t have an English translation. I think there was some actual speculation about how long it would take to translate then import over to the West.

Single Pokemon challenges in GB2 are gonna be insane on GR Island with the deck building requirements. Colorless attacks (or deck out) are a must for any time your Energy type is restricted. Funny thing is, by having to battle Ryan over and over, you may have basically battled Matthew's deck. What I mean is that there's something strange about the Rock Club deck distribution. So, in TCG 1 you have Matthew with the "generic Rock deck", Andrew with the "counter Rock's weakness deck" (using Fire and Psychic to beat Grass types which are weak to those 2), and Ryan with the "Fossil deck" In TCG 2, those themes seem to have switched a position: Matthew now uses Andrew's theme (though this time only using Fire), Andrew uses Ryan's theme, and Ryan uses Matthew's theme. It could just be a coincidence, but it seems to me the devs assigned the decks to the wrong club members.

@@Paraspectre I have no idea how a tcg nuzlocke would work but sounds really interesting. Maybe making a deck centered around a single pokemon like the parasect run but if the deck ever loses, remake with new Mon. As for the "catch one mon per route" maybe you can pick 1 mon from the booster pack you get from each trainer and that's your "catch". I also saw a video of the optimal competitive Pokemon deck from that era which includes Scyther, Electabuzz, and Hitmonchan. It didn't look like much but might make a good video? I just beat this game without any trainer cards. Wasn't expecting much, but it was the most fun I've ever had playing any pokemon game, no exaggeration. My main gripe with these rpgs with like 100 unlockable characters--usually the optimal playstyle is to just overlevel the hell out of 1 or 2 and then destroy everything, so youre missing out. But this game, this way of playing...youre so underpowered that you barely squeak by. so you need to tailor your deck to counter the opponent's deck every single battle. I was using niche low-tier stuff because i'd have requirements like "i need a grass type that's not weak to psychic and doesnt use grass energy to attack." Yes I used Paras and Parasect unironically for one battle. I got to do my best youngster joey impression running through a psychic stronghold trainer with a single rattata. Out of the original 151 I ended up using 85 of them. Clefable 1 energy metronome mvp. Base set snorlax runner up mvp. I'd get rares that i felt were crucial to have and i'd be lacking uncommons that i sorely missed. wish i had streamed it. might do it again without any grinding Edit: oh and I memed on the final boss with 1 pokemon, 59 energy. It was never best to try to take out a whole team 1v6 (remember, no potions), but for that one battle, after you acquire that one legendary card, the stars align so that the strategy goes undisrupted, and nothing else works consistently.
