After reading some of the comments on KZbin and Instagram I decided to try a smaller board. Conditions were perfect for the 4.0, a nice 20kts/ NW. The Amos Sultan Wing 85L board worked extremely well it is a 5'10/18/85L and is a little bullet in the water. The feeling of riding an 85L board going downwind is mind-blowing!
Part 1 - I share some information from comments that I received on the first session video and do some riding.
Part 2 - Riding continues (computer did not like rendering a long video...) and I show the upgrades to the gear, harness loop, belt loop, leashes that didn't work that well, etc...
Keep the comments coming as it helped me heaps from the first video!
This second session was in 20-22 kts of wind.
Board: Amos Sultan Wing 5'10/18/85L
Maliko 4.0
Foil setup: Code Foil 1130S front wing/ 150AR tail/ Medium fuse/ 80 (+) mast
Rider: 85kgs (kite, wing, DW, prone experience)

looks so much better than holding a paddle and way more than dragging a wing

Great video. What was the camera setup. Seems like you could take it off and on and get a great angles.

@@petercook7798 hey mate just a GoPro with a mouth mount. Also have the floaty on so it floats if it falls in the water 👍

Looks fun. But i why not just use a 3 or 2m wing on downwind board? No ropes to tangle. Have been using 3m wing on most downwinds. Thinking of getting a 2m or a parawing. But the ropes seem a tangle mess if something goes wrong no?

Going downwind on a wing is far less fun than doing it with a paddle or on a parawing. The wing restricts your movements, blocks your view, gets in front of you all the time and doesn’t allow you to enjoy the ride nearly as much as not having to deal with it. Once you experience DWing without it you simply can’t go back. These days I only wing when there are waves and offshore conditions

At 20:54, that’s where the dyneema shock cord harness line shines. It lets you balance harness tension and arm tension through gusts without accidentally unhooking and getting yanked hard. You vid has me frothing for a DW send!

Mate that’s so true. Happened to me many times during this session and the next one I will post. Will definitely look into it! Cheers man! DW is the best! Go get some!!!

Thx for the great video. I do downwind wingfoiling. Once on the foil and without the wing, is going downwind easier? Is it easier to connect the bumps without the wing in your face (better visibility, maybe less drag, ...). Be keen to have your feedback

1000% easier. Just imagine you running downwind on foot... now imagine you running downwind on foot with a wing in your hand... It's a similar thing. Once I started DWing I realized that I started going left (I'm regular footed) much more frequently. Sometimes I would catch myself pushing hard and trying to link up going only one way but once the left opened up it became much easier to stay on foil. If you run out of options on one side you can always turn (and gain speed) and chase something on there. The other thing is it's much more enjoyable to not have to manage the wing all the time, occasionally run over it and it will always limit what you can do on a wave (or wind swell bump). If you have wing experience, you should try a parawing over buying a SUP DW board + paddle. They just weren't around when I started... Go get it!

So it’s wing size for wind. Board size for ease of getting started, the bigger the board the easier to stand up on to get started. But what about the foil size?

This is not a rule but at 85kgs I would use the 5.1m from 10-20kts, the 4.0m from 15-25kts and the 2.9 from 20-30+. I haven't ridden the 5.1m nor the 2.9m yet, this is only based out of my experience with the 4.0m. For the first few sessions I would go with a big board to get a feel for it. I tried the 85L on my second attempt because conditions were good and I was feeling adventurous. When it comes to foil size start on something big as well. Put on the easiest setup to get up. I recently changed foil brands so I quiver is small atm. I only have a 850S and a 1130S from code foils and some tails. My first and second session I rode the 1130S with a 150AR tail. The third session (posting this video soon) I got up on the 850S with a 135R tail with a 85L board on 20-30kts of wind. However the wind got too strong to hold the parawing, and try to go upwind in 30kts so I had to stop. I would suggest getting out on easy gear at the start and progressing down to smaller boards and foils as you get comfortable with the gear and if conditions are good. Good luck!

I only have a leash on my board. I didn’t feel the need for a leash on the parawing yet. The harness line is enough for me at this stage. Is that what you mean?
