Steve - thanks for the review - I was about to buy the ATN4K, but after watching your video, bought the Pard. It's a tight fit on my old CZ .22, but mounted it, figured out the 2 shot zeroing, and put two shots through same hole at 100 yards in the middle of the bull - first time using it. I can confirm that there are shims in the kit - didnt need them with mine. Absolutely superb piece of kit - I've had an old Pulsar digisight 550 for years, and this walks all over it. Thanks for a really clear and informative review - you put a lot of work into that video!

Hi Steve, another great review. It was after watching reviews from yourself and Russ Douglas that I decided to purchase the Pard008lrf, and I couldn't agree more that it is definitely worth the money, it's the muts nuts as far as I'm concerned. There is a lot of videos of the unit in use by Wolverine vermin shooting, Norfolk sqirreller and Jon Phillips to mention a few. There is no doubt that some people will want to stick with their preferred choice of nv units and fair play to them, but I certainly have no regrets after getting mine, it's a joy to play with 😁 I also have the nitesite viper unit that I like but the wee pard is a completely different experience. Thanks mate for all you do, its hard to please everyone but if we didn't have our different opinions and preferences it would be a boring world 👍. ATB... BILLY.

Hi, I try to be different to all the other KZbinrs out there and say what I see. This one is a little different as I was given it by Pard, but in my defence, the non LRF version I did a month before was a subscriber one and I pretty much said the same thing. Pard took it upon themselves to offer me it and I gratefully accepted.

Hi Steve, great video and description of the unit... One top tip is to switch off the red dot targeting in preference for the PIP Quick Button feature... one press of the button and you can instantly check/confirm your point of aim... Shimming is an issue, but as seen on a Russ Doulas video, a few layers of a drinks can works a treat.. Look forward to the ATN - PARD comparison, as I own and use both...

This is my first NV device, it froze twice in the first couple of days, the second time permanently and was replaced. I do rate it and it is a game changer. Improvements - I reckon an angled eye cup would be better, more reticle choices, and improve the focus collar. It needs to be a lot stiffer and less critical. Small movements make a big difference. It is also difficult to adjust the focus without obscuring the built in ir, and so you can't see the picture your trying to focus. I have fitted a collar from customriflescopes on mine, and then fitted a fishing coaster around the collar, which shorts the problem. If it ends up being reliable (I've not had the replacement long) then I'll be happy with it.

The ATN 4k, when matched with the ATN rangefinder automatically shifts the reticle to the point of impact required for any given range. Hardman has done several review videos of this, and it looks very impressive, but very bulky and expensive. I really wonder whether the Pard 008 actually has the memory and processing power on board to allow any future software updates to introduce this function. One would need to input pellet weight, bc, velocity etc and I wonder whether the present Pard 008 is up to calculating all that and correcting the reticle. Perhaps a future Pard 009 or 010 would be able to?

I think the reason some may be saying not to charge with the cable directly in the unit might be something like what has notoriously happened with Amazon's Kindle tablets. If the charging port isn't absolutely rock solid, then regular use -- and hey, some people are clumsy and rough, face it -- can loosen it up over time to the extent that when you plug the cable in, it no longer charges the unit. In the case of the Amazon tablets, that can mean either junking the unit or sending it in for repairs. That can be pricey, time-consuming and leaving you without your unit, and expose all your personal information to strangers. And ... sometimes it can't be fixed or the price doesn't make sense. So you lose a perfectly good unit just because the charging port was cheaply built/attached. So it's safer to charge the battery outside a unit if you are given the chance.

Yes for 3 main reasons. 1 the size of the Pard LRF compared to the ATN 4k + ABL. 2. The construction as the LRF is solid to the unit and therefore always in the same parallel place to the scope centre. The ABL was an after thought by ATN and the bracket is prone to breaking and point massively all over the place. Hence the reason I designed the cradle for the hand held range finder. But must importantly no 3 is no marketing BS like ATN about zeroing leading people into false pretences, dodgy software, designing yet another £300 range finder when people already had one. Many reasons and why I will be putting a ATN vs Pard video together soon.

On the PARD, the rangefinding target box (the yellow box with the cross) can be moved to coincide with the laser splash. The laser splash can also be moved to wherever you want it to appear on the screen
@MrDirectNL5 жыл бұрын
@@brucemcpherson8832 the laser splash cannot be moved. I think you mean the red dot?
@brucemcpherson88325 жыл бұрын
@@MrDirectNL No, the laser splash can be moved, although it is not a simple process. Remove the plastic cover at the front of the rangefinder unit. That reveals 6 small screws which hold the laser module in place. There is a thick elastomer gasket between the laser module and the inside of the case which acts as a kind of spring. By adjusting the tightness of these screws, the laser beam can be moved horizontally and vertically so that it can be positioned anywhere on the display. Once you have the laser splash where you want it, and with the rangefinder switched on, open the main menu, then a long push on the menu button will bring up the X and Y coordinates of the yellow box. Use the + and - buttons to move the yellow box to wherever you wish on the screen

@@brucemcpherson8832 that is a bit much and the way you are describing it, seems it is not something we are supposed to do. I love my pard008lrf, it just struck me strange that the ATN gets smashed because the way it works, and the pard gets no critique about it.

Put the new firmware on the SD card, put in the unit and switch on, it then updates.

Not that I have noticed, but easily done by using the screw holes in the bottom of the unit where the mount goes. A little DIY

Can you use an external battery pack?

Not tested, unsure why you would want to with a simple 18650 that last for 6 - 8 hours bepending on IR usage

So they aren’t as power hungry as their competitors? You didn’t mention battery life in your video. ( or if you did I missed that bit) Which by the way is very good!

@@thaireesj41 6 - 8 hours depending on IR usage, think it might have been in specs image.

2 hours battery life with everything on and the IR at full power. In reality, the IR does not need to be on all the time, so using the sleep function (brief press of the power button) which switches off the screen and the IR will greatly increase battery life

Would it work with a powerbank attached to it so it can run off of that? I can see the one 18650 battery running out really quickly if the unit is on constantly while night shooting for rats
@airgunology5 жыл бұрын
Not sure not tested. The battery lasts for a good 6 - 8 hours depending on IR usage. But what does it take to carry a spare 18650 in your pocket compared to have a battery pack strapped to your rifle ?
@peewee0076543215 жыл бұрын
Steve Allan that’s true, I have a few of those. Was just wondering if you were to take out the 18650 battery, would you be able to run it from an external source 🤔. Would you be willing to find out?
@brucemcpherson88325 жыл бұрын
It will run from a powerbank , but it's not recommended, since the USB connector can overheat. Far better just to carry one or more spare batteries around with you. Also, battery life can be greatly extended using "sleep" mode, where a short press of the power button will switch off the display and IR when not being used. Another brief press of the power button immediately powers up the screen and the IR
