A growing couple needs their space. Living with inlaws is a recipe for disaster. It's best to meet up with them on weekend and speak on phone with them regularly. I never recommend living together as it creates friction. It's not that mother in law or daughter in law is bad, but the dynamics of the relationship makes it toxic to live together. Living separately means private rooms and even a private kitchen so u don't need to see in laws every day. I really feel for some ppl here.

My mother in law (MIL) moved in with us permanently within 1 year of marriage, to take care of our child so my wife could study for USMLE and do medical residency. MIL had never lived with her husband as he worked abroad in the Gulf, so I think she was used to being in charge. MIL causes 90% of our fights. After 10 years the father retired and moved in too, and I thought he would help, but he just prays all day. They have a son, but he is not MD like my wife. I thought it was an honor to take care of wife’s parents since 10 years, but they don’t even acknowledge that they have lived 100% free. Now that my wife is making more than me, MIL has gotten bolder, calling me a “zero” (I’m a banking VP, she has 8th grade education). They are constantly brainwashing my wife to stay obedient to them, even if our marriage suffers or ends (half of MIL’s brothers/sisters are divorced, so it’s normal for her). I don’t know what to do.

I could have made my husband leave them and stay with me very easily like I left my parents and started staying with his family after marriage. But I didn't. Because I too have my own parents whom I love dearly and by God's grace they are keeping good health and can live on their own. I decided to stay with my in laws because I don't want my husband to regret later in life and think that he could have done something if he was with his parents and saved them. @odessy0000, Because according to law / Marriage act / social norms, the husband & in-laws are responsible for the guardianship of the married girl. See, the problem of mother-in-law & daughter-in-law relations is all around the world, inescapable 🤣. In my country it is common belief for most families that daughter-in-laws must serve her in-laws (like a robot) and must be submissive with no voice. Because it is "the only" way of showing respect to her in-laws, good manners with sweet words and smiling face are not enough at all. If in-laws treat her unfairly, anyway, she is expected to accept bad attitude and remain patient until "the time" comes when in-laws realize how nice she was 🤣. What if that time never comes? When this kind of unfair attitudes toward daughter-in-laws go beyond the boundaries, unfortunately such relationships ending with unhappy outcomes. 😭

Absolutely 💯 the power balance in a husband wife relationship becomes completely skewed as soon as you start living with in laws. That's why financial independence for women is of utmost importance. So that she can have her own say. Living with parents of either boy's or girl's side should be considered only and only in their later stages of life when they are unable to carry out their activities of daily living due to sickness or when one of the parents have expired. Before that, it should be the simple case of live and let live.

Mam when husband needs wife only for sexual relationship and he didn't give her respect for another time then wife how to deal with this situation?and what about that pure relationship which we call marriage..?
@malikyaj68803 жыл бұрын
Hello
@testuser96123 жыл бұрын
@Bhawna Singh, search everywhere and you can only find that except from parent / child relationship, pure relationship doesn't exist at all. This is the reality. Husband- wife relationship is also one type of give & take relationship. Husband takes care of wife's needs in life , in return wife takes care of husband's needs and his parents also. Also for your information, sexual relationship is mutual & it is for both partners(Not for husband only). But, here we can say that emotional bond is bound to come between husband & wife at any stage of their life slowly. The "feeling of necessity / habit of other partner" is the root cause of this emotional bond & it should come from both side for a normal couple. As a result, both partner can spend the life with each other and take care of each other till the end of life. If any one of us expect all of our needs should be fulfilled by our partner from the next day of marriage immediately, then sorry the other partner is human, not a Superman!! A women should take the guidance of in-laws & her husband, because they are the protectors of this girl as well as they have the responsibility of the guardianship of that wife . It is for the betterment of Indian families. No ego, no comparison, no complication, no complain should come in this situation. As long as husband doesn't beat his wife, as long as the husband doesn't abuse his wife unnecessary in front of others and as long as a husband doesn't harm the reputation/existence of his wife, the husband can be considered to be decent & respectful to his wife. These are the minimum protocols. We shouldn't expect more than that in a marital relationship.

When two grown ups decide to marry give them space and let them breathe. Too many people trying to crowd up around them would give them no time to bond well and this initial stage of getting comfortable with each other is primarily important right? Mam, me and my gf recently talked about marrying.. But our views about marriage are very different. Me and my family wants her to stay in our family, give time to the family as we have seen two of our family members' marriage fail because the wife was very frequently visiting her parents home and staying their for long... They did never develop any attachment to the new family. Ultimately those marriages became a chaos. I discussed this with her. But she went ahead and told her mother (her mother and father stays at different states and she is the only one taking care of her mother at present) that I told her this. Now her mother wants to talk to me. Basically my gf takes the marriage just as a legal thing to stay together, but wants to continue doing what she does even after marriage. She wants to regularly visit her mother and stay there. When I asked how she will give time to the new family, she just shouted at me. What should I do mam?

Thank you for sharing your story. I think we need to understand whether she is facing any fear and insecurity in this relationship. What's bothering her meeting her mom regularly. Once you know the reason you can help her get the clarity.

@@leennaparannjpe3330 her mom stays alone. Her father stays at different state. Her mother does not want to stay with her husband. So my gf has to take care of her. My gf is a very good human being and I do understand how she feels. But if she regularly goes and stays with her mother even after marriage, wont this relationship fail?

You want your gf to live with your family but have objections to her going to meet her mother often after marriage . How selfish can people be ? No wonder girls have had enough of this nonsense.
