As a mom I want to make this very clear: bearing a child doesn't grant you with a special unquestionable status, so people around you, especially, especially your family and friends have 110% right to tell you that they think you are about to make a trashy choice when it comes to your baby's name. Bs like "I expected you not to judge" don't make sense. It's good to speak out before the baby is born so that it's not too late. Parents already have too much power over their kids, anything that can counterbalance that is good.

Probably most kids……… but I’d wear a weird name as a BADGE OF HONOR. Not if it was some random word like apple, though. That’s not humor, it’s just a random word. Tbh it would actually be hilarious if you have a nickname that sounds normal, but it’s short for a random word. Imagine going by Connie, and then getting to hit people with “It’s short for Conifer.” I get not doing that to your kid though because you don’t know what they’ll be like and if they’d feel the same way you do about the name. Or if they’d be able to handle getting bullied. I can and have so that wouldn’t have made a difference personally

Fun fact: the "gh" you see in a lot of these names is taken from the words that end in "gh" where the "gh" is silent. That much is obvious. But what may not be obvious is that those letters actually used to be pronounced. They represented the voiceless velar fricative, which is a fairly harsh sounding consonant that sounds a bit like you're clearing your throught (you may have heard it before, for example at the end of the the Scottish word "loch"). So basically the name "Ashleigh" would kind of sound like you're saying "ash lay" and then started choking.

I think it's usually people who have a "basic" name who are obsessed with giving their children "unique" names. When they say they want their child to be "special", what they truly mean is that they want to be "special" parents through their child. It's more for them than for the child and a way for them to live vicariously through their kid's "uniqueness" while not having to themselves suffer the consequences of having a funky name. In short: they get to feel special and live their "unique" name fantasy while continuing to enjoy the comfort of their own normal name
@kellydalstok89008 күн бұрын
In my experience the people who give “unique” names are from the lowest and least educated social classes. I’ve heard that many employers will often deliberately NOT choose their job application letters, because their expectations of these applicants are lower.

4:07 Fun fact! Ashleigh is actually one of the few 'leighs' that are acceptable since it is an actual name not a tragedeigh, it is from British origin just like the counter name of Ashley. Ashley was predominantly used for men whilst Ashleigh was predominantly used for women. I know this because I know how to google as well as know an Ashleigh in real life, dude was so desperate for finding a r/tragedeigh the first -leigh he saw he thought "Jep, you are now illegal deal with it' For any upcoming mothers or those pregnant... make sure you give their kids a normal name and not a name that makes them want to abuse dr*gs also make sure you actually understand what a tragedeigh is like most these names in this video not like those who are desperate to find one irl and starting to make stuff up; Here's a thanks a few decades in advance from your kids. Edit: Also I believe I have heard of the name Everleigh as well as a regular normal name, wouldn't be surprised if the origin is the same or similar to Ashleigh... Frodo however is from LOTR almost a 0% chance but if the person who had this girl may read this.... why did you get knocked the hell up by someone who'd call a (most likely) regular name a tragedeigh whilst coming up with a tragedeigh himself? That brainrotted decision is on you always know who you breed with.

Those poor kiddos... When naming a child, here is some advice. Run with it as if it is your own name for a month and see if you keep getting into embarrassing situations or not. Also.... anyone who gives their children an r/tragedeigh should now face a legal requirement to call potatoes 'Ghoughphtheightteeau' failing to do so for them lands them in prison for 50 years that should scare off anyone embarrassing their children so horrifically.

I imagine Gen Alpha and Beta are going to give their children grandparent sounding names as an extreme rejection of these extremely stupid trends.

Our names will be grandparent names by then.

Honestly, I wouldn't bet suprised. The popularity of certain names cirles around throughout the years. It is somewhat likely that really old sounding names will become popular once again.
