Sadly, low income people can't afford to choose. Mental health care through the county and state is a joke. My grandkids have had 4 different "therapists" within a year and a half.. They are assigned to them. Still trying to get one of the boys "officially" diagnosed as Autistic.. The school recognizes it and has him in the special ed program, the state won't give him an official diagnosis... The DOCTOR told my son , during a one hour intake appointment,; "Just because he rocks doesn't mean he's autistic" Yet the school did HOURS of testing and "diagnosed" him over a year ago.. He is getting extra help at school with his behavior (Meltdowns and with his speech) But there are many programs that could further help him and enrich his life if the "Doctor" would diagnose him as Autistic. The "therapists" provided by the state seem to be fresh out of school and after getting 6mos. to a year experience under their belt they move on to where the pay is better and then the kids have to start all over again with a new person. All 3 of my grandkids have been in therapy for almost 2 years and there has been little to no support for their father... They rarely talk to him with suggestions on how to deal with their behaviors.. One is Autistic, the other is ADHD. The third seems to not have difficulties except copies some of the unacceptable behaviors of his brothers. My son is a single parent with full custody of all 3 and the kids Mom is a narcissist. He kicked her out 2 years ago ...... I could write a book. I just want to see the kids get the help they really need before it's too late. The oldest has little respect for adults and little to no empathy and bullies his younger brothers.. This triggers the autistic brother and tempers flare on a daily basis when all 3 are in the same room... Their Dad needs help/ guidance on how to best deal with them as well . Are there good therapists that do charity work?
