HINT: We both had parents that were against our wedding, mine refused to attend. His sister wore a black dress in protest. We had our wedding in a park, on picnic tables, plastic tablecloths, paper plates; about 10 people came; we had fruit salad and buns; I sewed my own wedding dress and made a veil, rented a tux for him, and pd the minister $20. Did the event for about $150! Those objecting parents are deceased, now we have been married almost 50 yrs!!

I can understand their frustration. It's like paying for 4 years of College and your child quits after 1 semester. Super frustrating. But unless the Defendant's agreed to pay back the money spent on the wedding, the Plaintiffs have no legal ground to stand on. They would have to prove fraud(they knew beforehand they would split up and got married anyways) or an agreement to repay.

For an entire year I paid my 19-yo son’s expenses on a weekly basis while he was at university. He quit studying after a month and never told me. The level of dishonesty continues to blew my mind. I foolishly gave him another chance. He got a traineeship after that and i said i would help financially if he stuck at it. He got fired in the first month because he was partying all the time (using my money) and I had to call the restaurant myself to find out

Most wedding gifts were contributions towards parts of the wedding, eg the friend who was the minister who married them without charge, the friends who collectively did a buffet reception afterwards, I did photos and an album. In total I think they paid less than £200 - including his suit (thrift shop) and alterations, her dress, and document fees. Still together, still happy, two rapidly growing up kids.

It is crazy that they could only make it work for 3 months. But, statistically couples are more likely to divorce if they live together before marriage. oh.. by the way... weddings are basically one of the biggest scams to benefit the wedding industry.(caterers, planners, flower shops, hotels, airlines, etc) You can have the most wonderful wedding and still end up with a lousy marriage. Take advice from old fart like me... have the smallest ceremony with only your absolute closet family and friends. If they truly care about you, they won't mind having to attend your wedding at the city park, beach or even a rec center.(or if you want, the chapel of love in Vegas) I only know 5 couples who have been happily married for over 40 to 50 years. All of them had very small wedding ceremonies and receptions. Wedding day is just one day. You will be spending 10,000 to 20,000 days with your wife or husband.

There is truth in what you say but there's nothing wrong with having a big wedding, what's important is that you can afford it and it's actually what you want. I have been very happily married for nearly 15 years now but I would have liked a bigger wedding, I had to have a very small wedding as it's all I could afford and I always felt a little disappointed that I couldn't have something nicer.

or how about getting to really know each other before tying the knot, seek counseling prior to marriage, a counselor can go over finances, personalities, emotions, feelings, compatibility, etc. everything. to help ease mentally mature people down the right path, getting their eyes wide open before taking that leap, they can see what the couple cannot see, or may be in denial about. so many people use divorce as if it's normal, no wonder why we have high azz divorce rates. people that aren't compatible keep forcing the circle into the square and this is what we end up with. counseling doesn't guarantee success but it could help people learn to work on their marriages and issues. to work hard to sacrifice to give and take and share and have patience. etc. smh. people are crazy out there.

I think huge weddings are silly. Mine was small. Maybe 35-40 max and held on the family farm. I bought a beautiful lace dress off the rack, least expensive rings we could afford, family roasted turkeys, had veggies from the garden, a cousin was DJ for our barn dance, local pastor, and one bridesmaid and one best man. No rehearsal dinner. Our friends and family camped overnight on the property, we all played some volleyball and we stayed in a tiny cabin on the property built just for us. It was a BLAST! A true celebration. No fancy photos, but 38 years later, we are still happily married, everything is paid off, loving our retirement and so glad we didn't go into debt with a big, fancy wedding.

My husband paid for our wedding, including my dress! I was young, paying my own bills and when I met him, he was a Marine. I never thought that I would get married so young ( 21). So when he asked me in marriage, I was not prepared and I had no money. I was working and paying bills. He paid for the whole thing. It was a simple wedding with close family, a church and a dinner afterwards. But what made special is that he was man enough to pay for the whole thing without relying on his parents. His parents were retired teachers. We have been married for 22 years. Nowadays, people are getting divorced like crazy so…I don’t recommend big wedding and I definitely don’t recommend asking your parents to take out their retirement for your wedding.

Weddings are such a waste of money and effort. I can’t imagine having over 100 people watch me get married. That’s gotta be padded. People tend to use weddings to show the resources they want to portray they have when many can’t even afford their weddings. Just odd to me.

😂😂😂 the parents wanting their money back is too funny! If they get their money back then everyone that paid for a failed marriage needs a refund. FORTUNATELY, that’s not how it works. She CHOOSE to help. Marriages are often time a gamble. Historically, parents use to pay for their kid’s wedding. They’re not divorced, just separated and so far o haven’t heard they’re getting a divorce. JJ laughing in the beginning about the parents wanting refunds is priceless. 😂😂😂

Friends of mine are married and i didnt even know anything about it. They dont use wedding rings, there is a photo of them together but no suit and tie, no big white wedding dress no decorations and these two are as close as what honey is to a bee and nearing their senior years. I cant tell you how long they have been married for but the love they have for one another you can immediately see the sparks and when you get to know this couple you would seriously think that they would be thinking of tying the knot soon I nearly had a heat attack when i found out that the picture i keep seeing in their house is actually ther wedding photo.
