And although men also worked hard, they had their free days, sundays and holidays. Women didn't. They were expected to do house chores on these days and prepare the festive meals on holidays etc.. Not to mention that this song still applies to many women today. I escaped that fate but my mother didn't for a very long time. Thankfully she is single and we kids are adults now.

I saw this imbalance of power and stereotypical gender roles with my parents and grandparents. Up until the 70s, women weren't allowed to have a bank account, own property, or basically be independent. Their dependence of men was out of survival. The men would work 40 hours a week; the women would have to do ALL of the domestic and emotional labor and childcare which was a 24/7 job. Even in 2023, there's still FAR too many men who believe this should still be the case except women also work so it's now 50% financial and 90-100% domestic labor.
