i love the part that says " weaponize, false incompetence , its dominance under the guise" means the man pretends to not know how something is done for the women to do it , faking ignorance as a disguise for dominance.

There is an underlying feeling of violence that is so haunting on that bridge. Those two lines "so that he never lifts a finger" and "it's not an act of love if you make her" could also point to intimate partner violence or sexual assault. The music video is also incredibly well done. Notice that she isn't allowed to dish for herself and eat before he taps the knife against his cup 😮 I HIGHLY recommend you watch it again and pay close attention to her face. Her acting is SO GOOD! The inflections she shows on her face on specific lines is mesmerizing to watch 😍

so as a fellow writer i want to share some really cool things with you. A LOT. of the phrases in the song is double or tripple meaning. just as a few examples... Capilaries in your eyes burst when you're struck in the face. when you do heavy lifting. and durring childbirth. "so that he doesnt lift a finger." i'm sure you can figure out the other meaning of that.... and than even visually. the candle she lights, theres one on his end, and its unlit and perfect. but her candle is constantly burning, and burning out. the fruit she eats is a pomegranate, which has like a dozen different ways it could be symbolized. the song is written in a way that its HIGHLY spesific, but also resonates with everyone's unique position. its a brilliant peice of writing, and the visuals are just insane in the way that they all tie together.
@kiriscott5791Ай бұрын
I love breaking this song down and picking out new meaning each time I listen or watch as a writer myself. It will be a great historic piece that showcases how women have been treated and shown across history, media, and so many other things. It's so powerful and meaningful and I think wakes up something in most or ALL women when they hear it. Truly empowering with an underlying sadness that makes us stand up and fight for who we are and what we can become.

One thing people never seem to mention is that one line in the bridge “it’s not an act of love if you make her”. To me, she’s talking about marital r*pe. People don’t talk about it as much, but marital r*pe is very real and unfortunately common. Men often think they are “entitled” to sex with their wives-just because they are married. You are NEVER entitled to someone else’s body, married or not. Not enough people understand this, sadly.
@lauriesmith457526 күн бұрын
He eats first, and eats the best cuts; she will eat last, and *only* after giving him her plate so he can have more. Historically, and even commonly now in some cultures, men eat first, then sons, then daughters, *then* wives, and often, the wives get the smallest, weakest pieces and cuts, indicating her place in the hierarchy- that even in the family, the children come before the wife; even the daughters, though they are often- especially historically- less desired than sons. A mother will often feed her child before herself; she will feed her husband before her children, and her children before she herself will eat. She will often take the literal scraps of her labour, unintentionally and unconsciously accepting her place in the familial hierarchy- especially in historical times. When she sits back down and puts her plate and goblet down, she's refusing to allow him to continue eating, refusing to accept the scraps of her labour, and therefore, her 'accepted' place in the familial hierarchy. She's taking back her power, in a sense.
@emmavinkАй бұрын
Tid bits I picked up from other comments on other videos of this song: Apparently a woman's eyes can also burst during childbirth. So that line in the chorus could indicate that the song title is also about labour in the child birthing sense. At the end of the video, she is ripping a pomegranate to shreds with her teeth and eating it. A pomegranate is apparently strongly associated with femininity in Greek/Roman and I'm sure also many Mesopotamian mythologies. Bread is DEFINITELY also my kryptonite 😂 especially chewey breads like Ciabatta or Sour Dough 🤤

5:21 a lot of people have theorizied the "and undo this mistake" is talking about running from the marriage mistake but also running before or after getting pregnant to a man like this. she was considering just before how horrible it would be for her potential daughter and it feels like thats the pushing point to run.
@m1sslunatic803Ай бұрын
LOVE your reaction to this! i've been surpised by how men have reacted to this song, i only saw a few who took it personally which usually i see more with these types of songs. but your reaction has probably been the best. you immediately acknowlegded that while she was using the visuals and even lyrics to make this a story about a historical relationship, these are still very real today. i haven't seen anyone be like "oh but its better now so its fine" but you're the only person so far who hasn't stated something like halfway between "its fine now" and "it still happens" lol. like usually those discussions are more like "its better today, but sometimes this does still happen." which, yeah, but even if not everyone has been in a relationship this patriarchal it doesn't mean that the world isn't still set up a bit differently based on gender. even the way we're socialized as toddlers is patriarcal. "boys will be boys" whereas girls are being bratty and unladlylike.

@Dave-hb7lx oh believe me, I'm not missing anything. I've spent my whole life listening to all kinds of music, I grew up listening to all the legend. Now I've passed the point of listening to angst and swearing and mediocre artists who would sweat if you took away their auto tune. I've found a multi genre vocalist, composer and multi instrumentalist who fulfills every music need I have. Why should I bother with mediocrity?
@Dave-hb7lx5 сағат бұрын
@@debbiemorgan859 i just wrote about autotune on another channel. I am not defending it BUT, sorry, they cheated back then also. In the 50's and 60's they would record on reel to reel and cut/splice tape plus speed up or slow down tape to acheive better pitch. A prime example was Strawberry Fields. John Lennon had issues w his voice so he would have sound engineers run his voice through a Leslie organ speaker to achieve vibrato. The technology was more raw but they used what they could in the 50's through 80's also. Reverb is a form of pitch correction. Synthesizers and voice boxes altered the originals. There are plenty of good artists today including Dimash, Anjelina, Aurora, Kalandra, The Cold Stares, Larkin Poe, Good Bye June, Jacob Collier. I could go on w many more. As I said, I not defending autotune but they used the technology available to them in previous decades also. You're just an example of previous generations stating the current one is worse. Been going on for decades or centuries. Similar to baseball. Can say all you want about steroids in the game BUT players were using amphetamines in the 60's and 70's also.
