Lyrics:
This morning I emerged
Onto wet earth
It had been raining
And while it had been raining
You and I we had been lying
And while we had been lying
In the warmth we had been falling
Into slumber, with the thunder overhead
In the cave we laid down
to the rain sounds
On your window
Intermingled with the blood-rush
Of our love flush in our sinew
Sleep joined us in the lamplight
As a fire in a campsite
But we set no-one to watch
With our guard down
What a lovely hiding place
That you have made
To delay our parting
What a world outside
To keep each other safe from
That’s all that I want, darling.
That’s all that I want, darling.
You hold me in the burrow
Your brow furrowed in your dreaming
And at the time the flood comes
And our blood runs
Cold and bleeding
you’d lie, womblike
And in your arms
I’d cease my breathing
With broken ribs
And one last kiss,
I would die here warm
What a lovely hiding place
That you have made
To delay our parting
What a world outside
To keep each other safe from
That’s all that I want, darling.
That’s all that I want, darling.

The Triassic cuddle has always devastated me and I'm not surprised that this song ended up one of my favourites. The melody and lyrics are so somber yet tender and beautiful

Just finished my first listen of this song on the album! I was reminded of those two little fossils found huddled together, one an ancient mammal and one an injured young reptile (I think?). They never really would have interacted normally, but it looks like the injured young one sought shelter in the burrow the mammal dug, and then a flash flood drowned them both. I wondered if the song was inspired by them, and the visuals here make me think I may be right haha! Lovely, lovely song. Been waiting for this album and it’s amazing!!

I ran to my partner in another room and said "there's a song about the triassic cuddle 😭" and added it to our shared playlist, I expected to cry in this album but not like this! The lyrics are so beautiful.

Beautiful song about something sad. I love it when fossils tell stories. Reminds you of how big and old the world is, doesn't it? That creatures were alive and feeling back then, too. So many moments. Death comes for us all, and yet the lives of random creatures who died hundreds of millions of years ago still matter to us. You gotta wonder who or what we'll matter to hundreds of millions of years after we've ended.

Never heard about Triassic Cuddle, I thought the song is a metaphor :) To me, this song spoke about the desire to improve the world. You know, you may have a house with great garden and beautiful surroundings, good food, and lots of free time for love and creative activities. Like the good old Shire, peaceful Hobbit life on Earth. But there is a special hunger in humanity to be "greater". Somehow, it is always not enough. We need bigger tower, more gold, more followers, more power. We have desire to conquer Everest, Mars, Gravity, even Death. We want more, more, more... but more of what and for whom? This song is like an arrow into the heart of desire - that sense of constant dissatisfaction in which the world is drowning. It is a very quiet and calm song on the album, yet somehow, it screams the loudest: "Please, stop! It's enough! Stop it!". Don't we all want just to live in love and peacefully meet the mystery of Death in the end? What more can the world offer than a single moment full of little miracles, which we miss in our hurry to go ahead? We think we can get more, but in fact, we are getting less. We are losing life, all the beauty of it, all the love that single moment can offer. This song reminded me of the movie The Fountain. --- spoilers begin--- A scientist was losing his lover to cancer and tried to find a remedy to cure and save her. But in doing so, he distanced himself from her, spending all his time in his head or in the lab. In the end, he loses her and painfully realizes how much of an idiot he has been. He was running away from the very thing he wanted the most, but lost himself in the domain of Despair, until he accepted the pain, and embraced the impermanence of life. --- spoilers end--- To me this song told the same story but from another angle: how you may lose those you love by watching them drown in their own sorrows, miseries, and fears. And this song is a scream for radical acceptance of life. "Stop fighting with nature and trying to improve the world!" Let's just enjoy our lifetimes together, and whatever happens - happens anyway, why worry? There is nothing we cannot endure with the company of good friends, love, and laughter. But somehow, in our lives, we may ignore and hurt the people we love the most. Sometimes just by not paying attention, by losing ourselves in the mind full of fear and regret. Yet, there is a hope. If we only remember what we truly want, deep in out hearts... Oh, it is fantastic song! A bridge from the realm of despair into the realm of delirious delight. A bright star of hope in the blackness of the cosmic ocean. Paris managed to create a whole island in my dream realm. There are forests, cliffs, and a cave with two cuddling dinosaur skeletons, who are silently watching the sunset. They know it is a dream and that it will disappear one day, but they don't care. It is still a place they call home. And because of this, they are happy... ...until their daughter is floating in the darkness of the cosmos, lonely and completely forgotten in a tin-sized escape pod... WHAT? Ah, that’s the next song on the album, another painfully beautiful bittersweet story. Pure fantasy music by a fairy witch 🦕🐊

Such a lovely song this is...🌹... As for the Triassic Cuddle, I wonder if those two animal species knew of their impending demise resulting to their unlikely company... The flood? 🤔... This is just so sad and beautiful all at the same time. 🥹

I'm pretty sure it's about a specific fossil from the Triassic period. Known as the Triassic Cuddle. 2 creatures died in a flood, cuddled together in a burrow as the water rised. They were different species, and one was injured when it died. It's a very unusual fossil.
