My mom got got back in the early 90’s in the Bronx NY on Fordham Road. She bought a bigger bag and put a rat trap in it. She went back to Fordham with the trap set in the bag. We were walking together and i heard a massive crack and homeboy ripped his hand out of my moms bag while screaming at the top of his lungs! His finger had to be broke. I was with my sister in Paris. We are both from New Zealand but she lived in England since she was 22 and I was visiting her. I traveled to many countries on my own but we went to Paris together as she was working there. We were at a restaurant and I had my handbag next to me whereas she had her large handbag on the floor. When the table next to us left one guy started walking towards it and I wondered why he got up from a small table to go to a table for 8. I felt something was off and I said to my sister pick up your handbag now. She did it but told me I was paranoid (coming from the one who regularly got her phone or wallet stolen or she left them behind). I looked him in the eye and he turned around to go in the opposite direction. The next night we went to another restaurant and randomly the couple that were sitting on the other side of us the night before were sitting next to us. I started a conversation and the lady said that we were lucky because the people who took the table we had got their wallet stolen. I turned to my sister and said do you still think I'm paranoid. All this to say that locals need to have their eyes open as well not just us tourists.

I don't think I'm better than anyone who hasn't it's just shows that I know and have experienced what can happen. Your comment to me was judgemental and unnecessary, so yes, I'm going to be defensive when you come at me with that attitude. I have no desire to argue back and forward with you especially since we come from the same place. I was a teacher at Manurewa Central School for many years. Did any of your relatives go there. I'm asking because you mentioned Rewa. I'm not sure how long it's been since you came back to Auckland but a lot of the main streets are full of crime and people begging for food. Teenagers working for gangs are stealing and also attacking women in groups. I was broken into and assaulted. Anyway I wish you all the best.

We were in Paris this weekend and a group of girls tried to separate me and my husband while we on line 6 at the metro. My husband kept trying to get by but each way he moved she tried to block him. I grabbed my husband’s hand and in a loud voice said, “EXCUSE ME”. She got out of the way and looked up at another girl. They moved away from us and got off at the next stop. When we got to the Eiffel Tower stop they were already there looking for more targets. They didn’t get off at the stop. They just got into another car since I had “made” them. My husband said, “I wonder why she wouldn’t let me by”. I told him because she was trying to rob him. So glad I had bought him that anti theft bag and he had it in correctly.

Paris was a dream of mine after a few days there I wanna leave so bad that was the longest 2 weeks of my life. Pick pockets homeless graffiti gangs I literally have a picture looking at a guy trying to rob us when I was taking a picture of the eifel tower. The danger not worth it there is no police on streets and when I was there a person was stabbed randomly on the street. Is worse than Brasil there at least is just for money or material items no one randomly stabbed people walking on streets. Even on the plane to Paris you can’t go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and leave your items unattended because they stay awake and go seat in the person’s seat.

This is very common un paris, girls try to come around you and then take your belongings specially your DSLR camera, or most most probably they will ask you for a cigarette and try to act friendly ..looking at your bag and mobile phone etc, they will snatch your mobile and run away or ask you to pay them. This usually happens near the touristic places, and they dont speak english...just be ware and dont be alone...
