Get the actual police out there and they would tell you that these rangers violated his rights. Until he uses it illegally, they can’t touch him or his tool. Regardless what you think on how it should be handled, the law states otherwise. I personally would be uncomfortable around him, but there is no law keeping him from doing it. Just look it up if you don’t believe me or think I lack common sense.

It's a public beach, and he has no reason to have a pickaxe at the beach, especially when he is swinging and throwing it near a bike/running path. He and many like him feel they are entitled to do whatever they want anywhere they want, making it difficult to have sympathy for the homeless.

I biked past this incident this morning. It went on for longer than the video shows...when I rode by, the guy was still arguing on the bike path with police (more than 1 police car, too) yelling that he was only throwing his axe for practice (yikes) and he has a right to do that. Rode back by more than an hour later, and the guy was standing in the sand yelling at people passing by on bikes about his civil liberties being taken away....

There is a video by Fabian where the Santa Monica cops handcuffed a guy who was carrying a roofing hatchet in downtown. They hand cuffed him and took it from him ( he wasn't using it for a job ) . They said there is an ordinance against carrying stuff like that in Santa Monica. This guy didn't get any tickets or handcuffed so at least he had a better day by being in LA.
