Finally someone who doesn't make their dog call them mom just because it's cute but actually considers what the dog thinks of them as!

Who says it’s because it’s cute? My girls grew up together and I felt they were both my children. One with 2 legs that I gave birth to and one with 4 legs that I adopted. It was just natural to say mom rather than referring to myself in 3. Person, so to my dog I WAS mom. Of course it was just a sound she associated with me, not the concept of mother, but why is it a problem for you what sounds other people’s pets associate their human companions with?

@@mememe733 Oh no I wasn't saying it was a problem. In your case it makes perfect sense. But for people who don't have kids, their dog isn't hearing them referred to as mom - they are hearing them referred to by their first name, and I imagine it can be confusing for a dog (or cat) to hear their human called, say, "Sally," by all other humans, but then the human refers to themself as "mom". If you have human kids who call you mom, then the dog or cat already associates that name with you. :)
