I can’t thank you enough for focusing on diet and exercise.

Great presentation Dr Matt! Nice to see dietary modification and exercise regimens as top treatment options ahead of Medications. I have found the resources (under Resources-Patient Information Series-Perceiving Parkinsons on your metabolicneurologist website) from your Parkinson’s study very useful. Profound statement here is “The first decision a person with Parkinson’s ought to make is whether they want to start a medication at all…” Why wasn’t I told this was even an option by my neurologists when diagnosed with Young Onset PD five years back? 🤔 Glad to have found your research - I have been benefiting from your metabolic strategies (fasting/OMAD/keto diet over two years) and exercise, along with medication, to address both non-motor and motor symptoms. Hope your work inspires neurologists and other doctors to deprescribe and bring in a new era to Health Care as reviewed in your recent work “Metabolic Strategies in Healthcare: A New Era - Matthew CL Phillips”. Thanks!!

Hi Paranika - many thanks for this, I agree. The initial diagnosis should focus on a frank discussion about what having PD actually means, and what all the options are, including the possibility of combining them to achieve an optimal outcome. Physicians are guides, we must present all the options and can give recommendations, but at the end of the day it is the person's choice and we should not "tell" someone what to do. Take care, Matt.

Thank you Paranika, it's great to hear that you - and your family - continue to derive benefits! Best wishes, Matt.

@@drmclphillips It’s been almost four years since our family started with Metabolic strategies… OMAD continues to help me keep meds at minimum levels, husband also on OMAD reversing Type 2 Diabetes, two teenagers haven’t had breakfast in years - they are doing well in school and outside. 😀 It is easier and fun to follow this as a family. We are yet to reach our ultimate goals but I am thrilled to be able to enjoy other pursuits like hikes and travel despite my diagnosis. Could not have done it without your inspiring research, continued guidance and support, Dr Matt. Huge and hearty thanks from us all.

Dr. Phillips, I have watched a couple of your lectures and interviews on YT and your research into employing metabolic approaches to help deal with PD, and the research looks promising. What do you do though when you know someone who is dealing with this destructive disease, but who isn't so open with investigating these alternative avenues? I have a family member in Hamilton who I think could benefit from not relying solely on pharmaceutical interventions, but who seems locked into following the usual prescribed protocol only. I have forwarded your information to them including your lecture on the Parkinson's New Zealand YT page, but am unable to get them to look into this further. Please, what are your thoughts on the best way to help people over this kind of stumbling block? I hate to see someone suffering, but not considering other therapies. Thanks.

Thank you Craig...I have learned that if someone is not open, I cannot force it with them. It is best to just talk a bit about what the other options may be, and maybe give them some information on them, but at the end of the day it is everyone's decision as to what they want to do. One thing is for sure - don't give up on them. Kind regards, Matt.

What’s your protocol for Parkinson’s patients? My husband was diagnosed about 7 months ago. Do you recommend long fasts or only intermittent fasting along with a keto diet. I wish you were here in the US. If you need a PD patient for a trial, please reach out to me.

Hi Lynn, thank you. If people are interested I generally recommend the general metabolic plan at the metabolic neurologist site (under resources), this is a 2 meal per day keto plan. For most people it seems best to get accustomed to intermittent fasting before considering the prolonged fasts. We also use a multimodal approach including optimal exercise therapies and optimal levodopa administration (keeping things simple, correct meal timing, mixing up short/long-acting forms properly, etc). I hope this helps, Matt.

@@drmclphillips Thanks so much for your response. My husband hasn’t started any Levodopa/Carbodopa as of yet, but he’s definitely suffering from stiffness and achy muscles. We’re leaning more towards a carnivore lifestyle. Also trying to get him into a functional medicine dr if that will help. We were told that he should be checked for mold. He grew up in a house with a moldy basement and has had gut issues all his life. All your research and your theories make so much sense. I read over some of your website and I appreciate what you are doing to try to help people. Please keep up the good fight. We desperately need dr’s like you.
