What a delicious ham hock and pinto beans. Great idea if soaking the pinto beans to soften them up and take out a lot of their gases. Love the homemade vegetable broth with the Bayleaf that you boiled the ham hock in. The ham hock really brings loads of smoky flavors. With some rice and cornbread this is definitely a meal comforting and delicious. .

Hi, Jeff! This pot of pinto beans and ham hocks was definitely great. The homemade vegetable broth, along with the secret ingredient of bay leaf, was a great base. The smokiness of the ham is what really put these bens over the top. Let me know if you give this a try 👨🍳🍛🍲🍖

Hi! I'm so glad you liked my recipe. I will have to try adding cumin and paprika next time--I think they would be good additions. I think chicken bouillon would be good, too. Actually, I find that chicken broth / stock is a good base when used with ham hock. I'm glad this recipe expanded your horizons, too! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a nice comment. Have a great weekend 👍😀

I really like how you pre boiled the ham hock before adding the beans, I do the same thing. Most people cook them at the same time, which works too, but if you pre soaked your beans, boiling the hock first will really allow for the beans to get done fast. Sometimes that hock meat be tough! So prepare for a longer boil just to get it tender. That’s cool when you simmering beans for hours but I be RET TO EAT FAST. Lol. Well done! When you added that cornbread to the plate I said, “GOODNESS!!” Thank you for this wonderful video.
@ParnellTheChef2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the feedback about my recipe. Yes, ham hocks can be surprisingly tough, so giving them a head start helps imo. The cornbread was undoubtedly the perfect side for these pinto beans--nothing like southern style skillet cornbread! Thanks for watching and commenting!👍😀

This is how I make my beans. I use a large pot make a lot of beans and I cook my smoked ham hocks with the beans so the flavor is intensified with smoked ham hocks of course removing the skin and bone at the end. I also use a ham shank with some meat on it and cook it with beans as well. A trick I learned is to add an entire tomato whole it disintegrates it adds beautiful coloring and makes the flavor fresh. Wow you’re a good cook!

I cook ham and beans when I make a ham and made them today. I recommend getting fiesta pinto bean seasoning! It’s really good! Also, we like spicy, so I add in some jalapeño sausage that I cook in the oven, then slice it up and add it to the beans. Regular sausage is good as well!! Chapel hill is the best by far, but that’s only sold in Texas. Any sausage will work!! You have a good recipe there but I know you mentioned adding more spices so thought I’d share how I make mine. Take care!!
