Knowing Pacifica pier would be a mess we went to Baker beach on opening day which was fairly busy too. Thing was the surf was so rough our snares just tumbled around and tangled those near us. So we went to Moore street pier and caught a few red rocks. Been awaiting the swells to calm and finally went to Muir beach yesterday. Nope. Surf still crashing fairly far out and the kelp and seaweed so thick each cast brought nothing but a big clumpy salad of sea greenery as the snare again just tumbled around the surf. Lost two snares to heavy clump snags! Only redemption was it was a beautiful day anyway, we loaded up on mussels from the ultra low tide (sautéed in garlic butter for dinner) and a broken-away unidentifiable big crab box trap washed up in the waves. So we got that. Hoping things get better soon or we can get out in a boat soon. Great video ChrisP. Keep ‘em coming. 🦀

Thanks for the video. In the 60's/70's the fishing was so much better. We would catch lots of crab off the pier. Renting a boat from Stagnaro's would result in limits of nice size rock fish/ling cod. It is sad to see this demise. Now the party boats get the little tiny rock fish with limits very restrictive. We would limit out on large rock fish of all types. Guess what 20 years from now has in store for us???????? Good luck out there.

I've never seen anyone else do it, but I've always had good luck using big bucktails with a Gulp swimming mullet for rock fish and lingcod. Also, which baits did best in the pots?
@ChrisPfish24 жыл бұрын
thanks for watching and the tip. so best bait with the 16 crab was all salmon (salmon heads and salmon scraps in can).
@mikejackson22284 жыл бұрын
I've got another tip for you. Rock fish are the best lingcod bait, and you can use one of your ten limit as a ling bait. When you catch a rock fish, leave it down there for awhile. Even jig it. Struggling live bait is best bait. If a ling grabs it, it will not let go for anything until it hits the surface. Just net them both. That gives you ten tries to use one rock fish as live bait.
@jcube21484 жыл бұрын
I grew up fishing all over the bay area in a lot of the spots you go to👍which brings back great memories! Hey Chris. I have the blue pots. They don’t have a “rot device” on them. I noticed your circles on your blue ones don’t either. I was thinking I had to bolt cut the blue circles off mine and tie them back in with rot cord. That’s to avoid ghost fishing if you lose your pot. Is that not required by law ? I thought it was, so I want to be sure before I go out and get caught with gear that will get me busted.
