I COMPLETELY agree! That is one reason I'm hiring a trainer. My dog's job will be to protect the birds. However, it doesn't mean they will "play" together or be unsupervised together. Most breeders rely on dogs to protect their bird's cages. So they mix when it is done in a natural way - not as friends.

They are adorable. My first bird was a budgie. She was given to my by a cousin who bred them. He name was Josephine Bonaparte. She was green and quite friendly. But these parrotlets are charmers.☺️

Jan, was she hand-fed? Was she a biter?
@janleekelley15453 жыл бұрын
Josephine wasn’t a biter and I don’t think she was hand fed. I do know that my cousin handled all of his budgies. He had a beautiful aviary outside and a winter aviary inside a very large greenhouse.The was in Connecticut.

@@janleekelley1545 What a sight! My daughter and I have always thought that a Budgie aviary would be a special thing! Love that it moved indoors for the winter!

Had to have something enclosed and reasonably warm in the winter. This was Connecticut.😂

I just bought a 3 month old baby parrotlet male in cobalt blue, he seems very quiet although he does seem to be eating and drinking, he isn’t scared when i put my hand in his cage but stays put and doesn’t really vocalize much at all, this is my first parrotlet, I’m just concerned for his well fare is this normal behavior?
@ParrotBliss3 ай бұрын
He’s adjusting. Probably only been home for a few days. He’ll get more comfortable, but get another Parrotlet so he has a buddy, male or female.

Re biting. I wonder if there is a difference between hand raised and parent raised for biting? Mine as you know was parent raised and he bites when he wants to! LOL He is a bit two faced. Loves me wholeheartedly one minute and then he changes and comes to bite me. It's a bit annoying and can hurt a lot, despite his small stature. I hope your advice that it could be a maturing issue is the case here. Even so, I love him dearly and he is great fun too. A parrotlet is a super starter bird.

What is your take on Parrotlet vs Lovebird? They almost look the same, but do they have similar personality? Is the Lovebird more tame and is there any difference between male vs female in terms of 'feistiness' or aggressiveness?

Dogs are not necessarily a good mix with birds either. I have 2 Cairn Terriers and my Sasha (Humble and Kind) fits her name. My other Cairn Terrier Sophie (should mean monstrous hunter) got a hold of one of my birds (while it was in the cage) and ripped its beak off. He died, no blood so I assume it was from shock?
@ParrotBliss2 жыл бұрын
No, dogs and cats are not a good mix. It just takes one time. Sorry to hear about your bird - I can’t say what caused the death. I don’t have knowledge/experience with this. It may be the same as having your skin or nose ripped off, but I don’t know. Their beaks, I believe, are a necessity for their survival.

I didn’t watch the whole video, so you might have explained it, but how do you stop the cat from attacking the bird? If you say that is not his nature, how did you find out? Not the hard way I hope! You say that you have 18 birds. I hope that you never started with 28 until you properly trained the cat!!! 😂😂😂
@ParrotBliss3 жыл бұрын
I keep the cat in a separate space. Sometimes he's out and I watch and keep the Parrots safe.

You have great videos!! I have a question I'm hoping you might help with. We have been considering adding a bird to our home but we like to keep the temperature between 62 and 66 year round. Do you know of any birds that would be ok in this indoor temperature? I had cockatiels and love birds when growing up but our house was definitely kept warmer. Thanks for all the great content!
@ParrotBliss3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment - and thanks for watching! What kind of parrot are you interested in getting? Do you have any others? Also, will they be indoors all of the time, and if so, are you getting a UV/UB light for them?
@moe23773 жыл бұрын
@@ParrotBliss we do not currently have any other birds so this would our first since I was a teenager. We could definitely provide lighting for them and they would be indoors. I've been thinking about a cockatiels. Thanks for the response!
