Three topics discussed today: Parrotlets Vs Lovebirds
Which one is better around kids? Truth is, you have to teach your kids to be sweet and understanding that the birds are scared and so much smaller. And you have to be prepared for them to bite, because unfortunately they do, especially when they are scared, young and haven’t matured or developed trust yet.
In the video I suggest another species that is less bitty.
Which does better with climate changes?
Although I’m not sure what the questioner meant, Parrotlets are sensitive to temperatures that are too cold, can’t go below around 60 degrees Fahrenheit, or too hot, around 80 degrees.
Of course, no parrot should be put in a situation where they are dealing with a drastic temperature change. They should always be acclimated, but Parrotlets don’t have a wide temperature range even when acclimated.
Finally, who is friendlier, males or females?
That’s a hard one because I tend to like my female Parrotlets more and my daughter tends to like the males more. Some of it is just preference, but I find that females create more of a relationship.

Even with adults my boys are skittish around people they don't know. I try to use 1 finger when I pet my birds, except my older parrotlet when he is in the right mood I use my my thumb and forefinger and pet him around his neck. He loves that, kind of closes his eyes as if to say "don't stop". I always go slow and make sure they can see what I am doing.

I love it, the eyes closed, enjoying the pets! Yes, going slow is best with parrots. Your Parrotlet sound like a lucky boy!

We have and have had MANY birds. I believe it’s 80% the parents/children. My children have never been bit by any of our birds while my husband and I have. Number one your children and you need to be very educated on boundaries and appropriate touching and interactions. I will also say however since my kids 5&8 both have been able somehow to make a lot of our new transitioning birds open up and would even give and receive kisses when they wouldn’t let us touch them lol so lots of different factors also

Agreed, a lot of different factors- my daughter is the same, she connects with our parrots differently than I do- and sees them differently. Yes, being very educated on how to handle a parrot makes the bond 😀 - what species have you had and which have you most liked?

My 6 year old female lovebird loves the attack game. I successfully transferred her focus to a glove rather than my hand. Now when she sees the glove from afar, she will be excited and will run/fly to attack it. I think attacking is not great but I feel that she cannot be changed. I can use a chopstick to touch her beak and she kinda likes it. But she's inconsistent and will bite the chopstick too. So I can never trust her and will not let her go near my fingers. What do you think? She will always be attacking and will not be changed, right?

How long have you had her? My guess is not long. If that is so, it will change as she gets more comfortable and feels at home. There are some birds you can never trust, but I would not expect a Lovebird to be this way. I expect she will get past what is bothering her from her past and then she will get more comfortable with you.

@@ParrotBliss I've had her and her mate for 5 years 😅 My male is much more gentle and I have no problems with him. Except he is super silly! He sometime just freezes for no reason, and I have to keep reminding him he just ate from the food dish above the cage, or I have to point to him where I placed his treats 😅 The female is much smarter!

@@papagen00that’s cruel. Birds scream for reasons. Usually boredom, they are hungry or anxious. Clipping is just pure evilness.

It depends on the species. There is a lot of documentation of several parrot species thriving in cold climats.
