Loved the tour as I also have a parrotlet named lily bird. She plucked all her feathers out and I was so worried about her. We travel on weekends and she was not a good traveler. I bought her a ceramic nest and put a cloth in it and she loves it! She has all new feathers. I leave her home on weekends and she is happy to see us when we get home. As bird lovers we can stress them out with too much care. That was my experience anyway.

Ella is lovely! Thanks for sharing this video with us. We have a Quaker parrot named Captain Flint. We call her foraging toys "piñatas" because we fill them with food treats and paper confetti, and we hang them from a shoestring. She pecks them open and eats the treats inside.

I absolutely love this cage. I bought two and they are truly the best! Wow Ella has a lot of great toys. I like the idea of the different perches and the way you tied the ladder on the top, that was awesome. About mirrors they are not good for birds, it messes with their psyche because it makes them feel like they have a friend; and when they cannot interact with their imaginary friend they get stressed out. You will notice that she might behave aggressive when she is by the mirror.

She had quite a lot of health problems over the winter that the vets were unable to diagnose as all of our bloodwork, xrays etc. had clear results. She did great for 6 months and passed suddenly of a heart attack while playing. You can see more of Ella on her channel EllatheParrotlet where I am still uploading videos of her. We have a new addition I will be introducing in the near future but just want him to get settled first. x

There are so many beautiful types of birds!!! It is tough to decide! I've hear all birds go through a bitey teenager stage that you have to kind of ignore to teach them that you're the boss and it doesn't bother you so they stop. That's probably where I failed with Ella hahaha. My newest trick with her is long sleeves I keep kind of over my fingers. That way if she tries to bite she gets the shirt and not me, hoping eventually she'll give up when she realizes it doesn't deter me.... lol

I think this is based more on finches, canaries etc. that people want as more of a decoration. They don't get out of the cage so they need to be able to move and fly around inside their cage. Ella spends most of her day out of the cage on her play gym, with me or hanging out in the kitchen.

Ooohhhh I love it. I have a vision bird cage. Sometimes we 'lose' Willow (my parrotlet) in the cage because she has so much space! lol. I want my cage to eventually look like yours, but bird toys are so darn expensive, so I buy them from this awesome site. Willow would love this. She isn't clipped, but she doesn't like to fly much. She mostly climbs to get around, so this would be perfect for her.
@BudgetBunny10 жыл бұрын
Hahaha when our friends come over they are often looking for Ella for a while before finding her! Willow is a darling name! :) This toy collection has built up over the last seven years of owning Ella. I try to look in the discount or clearance sections when I'm at pet shops or shop online at Amazon where I find there are a lot of the same name brand toys but offered at low prices. Thankfully with parrotlets they are too small to be incredibly destructive so her toys last ages. She has a few favourites that I've always replaced if they break. Ella has full flight as well and loves to fly around the main floor of our home but never ventures far from her cage.

I was thinking about getting a vision cage. It's nice to see the size comparison. I had one rope toy once and it wasn't the soft rope like you have. My parrotlet seperated the strands somehow and got her head stuck in the rope. It was sad she was tired from standing like that all night but otherwise she was fine. She has the same four-sided spinning thing on the right side of her cage too. She sits sideways over it and snuggles it. She'll yell at it too if it moves while she's comfy.

There are so many! Apples, bananas, lettuce (red leaf, boston, romaine), carrots, peppers (parrots like hot peppers too because they don't have the greatest taste buds), raspberries, oranges....they also enjoy egg (it has to be well cooked), whole wheat pasta, brown rice....list goes on and on! Depends on what type of bird you get, that's a parrot list. If you decide on a bird I would google it. :)

Also hanging toys from the perches the cage came with - genius! : ) By the way, if you are not sure about the mirrors you can do some research. I use to buy them but after I found some information and noticed the birds behavior I got rid of the big mirrors. The little ones are not that bad. I think it is when they can see the whole body that it is a problem.

I started watching bird videos cause i would like one someday , when you were talking about her laying eggs do all female birds lay eggs or no?
@BudgetBunny9 жыл бұрын
+Rachel Adams Yes they would be unfertilized because there is no male present but they can still lay eggs. The problem with this is that it takes a large amount of calcium to create an egg which depletes your bird's calcium levels so you need to really keep on top of female birds.

We have tried everything to get her on to pellets but unfortunately she is a stubborn little thing and would literally rather starve herself then try them. I had a $20 bag expire before we'd even used a cupful! She is very good to eat fresh veg, whole grains etc. so my vet says that although seeds aren't the greatest at least she is still getting a variety of good nutrients and vitamins she needs.

This was great to watch! It helped me narrow down the Hagen L12 cage for myyoung parrotlet too. My bird is young, about 3 months old, but she isn't anywhere near as animated and active as Ella was and doesn't use her toys very much at all. Do you know if that comes with age or could there be something else wrong?
@BudgetBunny10 жыл бұрын
Just spend TONS of time with her. Ella used to cower in the back of her cage and never made a peep so I began to tame her by bringing her in to a small room (washroom) opening the doors to her cage and just reading to her, singing to her, just whatever so she could get used to me being around her but understand I wasn't trying to force anything. Eventually she began to move to the front door of her cage to listen and then one day she landed on my book. Another day she moved up my arm and on to my shoulder. It took months of this, it is tedious work but so worth it in the end! I miss my little Goose so much!

That may be true of people who choose for their birds to spend their life housed in a cage which I think is cruel. Ella spends her entire day out with me and is only in her cage at night or the odd time we're away. Parrots are also extremely intelligent and need lots of mental stimulation to keep their birdie brains busy.

Parrotlets are very sassy, feisty, and territorial. It's a terrible idea to house two together, they are best solitary animals. You could get two, as long as they are in separate cages where they can't see each other. Basically, it is best to get one, if you get two, make sure to get separate cages where they can't see each other 😊

Thanks for the advice, we have had this cage for 6 years with no incidents. I believe a parrotlet shouldn't be housed in anything wider then 5/8s and the spaces for this one range from 1/4" - 1/2". We have been very happy with this cage! :)

I thought corn cob bedding was dangerous for birds. Is it?
@BudgetBunny9 жыл бұрын
Raymond Hung Just like any bedding it is if ingested so I definitely wouldn't use it in a cage that didn't have a deep bottom and a grate to cover it. I only use it to cover the very bottom of the cage and there is an additional 3/4" between where the bedding ends and the grate is. Ella never had access to it or bothered with it as she typically stayed towards the top of the cage however depending on the cage or type of bird you have (how curious etc) I would suggest newspaper which is the safest alternative. :)
