I am Kshatriya from Karnataka. I underwent the Upanayana/ Brahmopadesha ceremony which is done between 8-13 years of age and if not done within that age bracket then its done 1-2 days before marriage. Its said that Upanayana increases intelligence and well being. Without this procedure of Upanayana we can't get married. Upanayana is similar to this ceremony because its also done for young boys. I guess parsi is an old lost offshoot vedic tribe of Hinduism hence the customs are somewhat similar.

It's similar to one of the Hindu tradition upanayana celebrated by some castes. I think it is the mark of boy's transition from a kid to entering into puberty. But key point is how this being one of the Hindu celebrations is performed by Parsis who have Iran origin?. The thing is zorastrianism and Vedic religion have the same roots. Even the language old Persian called as Avestan and Vedic Sanskrit are sister languages and share same origin. Thats means ancestors or early zorastrians/parsi people and vedic/sanskrit people are same. So this Navjyote Ceremony by Parsis is not adpoted from Hindu traditions. This is their own culture. Zorastrians and Vedic religion being from same roots hence this ceremony is performed by both.

The only peaceful community in India and around the world. They are miniscule but their contribution to society is Himalayan. Navjote to parsid is as important as Upanayam for us Brahmins. I observed that your mantras sound more like Sanskrit. You have adopted Hindu culture too like the tilak, rangoli, aarti, haar, coconut with swastika... happy and forever grateful to you for being part of the Indian dispora

We were Zoroastrian too. Before Islam, all people of Iran, from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Turkey and from Oman sea to central Asia, were Zoroastrian. I understand some of their vocabularys. Their name are also Iranian. Parsi people have the same faces that the people of. Shiraz or Kerman or Yazd. They probably came from the center of Iran.

Parsees are the oldest community of India. The oldest hindu epic, 'Battle of ten kings', reffers a clan called 'parshu'. It was so called because they used to fight battle with parshu I.e Axe( parshu = axe). Those parshus are parsees mentioned in battle of ten kings.

It is called Nirang. By very elaborate prayers and rituals of nearly 21 days a small quantity of holy potion is collected and stored to be used in drops during spiritual ablusions in life of a Zoroatrian male female or child. For more details ask a Zoroastrian priest.
