Just seen all four parts of your Delorean repair and found it fantastic. It must be a great joy to complete the repairs yourself and enjoy the success of your labors. Any new Delorean owner should take notes of the repairs and check their own cars. Someday I hope to buy one of my own. Thank you for the educational and informative videos.

In your story you stated the previous owner spent $52k on a restoration. If I may ask, how much did you spend on the original purchase of the vehicle and how much in repairs of your own. Thank you.

You're looking thinner now, well done. One of the analogue speedometer problems is caused by sitting. The magnets that spin and raise the needle magnetise the disc. It needs to be degaussed and calibrated. No more jumping 🎉

Great content man! I got to sit in one at 16 in 96 and a couple times since then, but never driven one. My second favorite car behind the Countach. If I ever hit the lottery I'll buy both, but LS swap the DeLorean. Looking forward to watching this series today. Thanks and have a great weekend with it!

Congratulations on your purchase. It's a beauty ! I hope you take care of it and look forward to future videos. She needs a good detail and I'd even go as far as curing all that surface rust underneath. It will be a labour of love that's for sure. I'd strip the undercarriage then treat and powder coat all the suspension components. Make it look like new again (underneath) Don't leave the rust for too long as it's all SALT induced and is still rusting as we speak.

Nice find! I have owned, restored , and sold two of these cars. My second one is featured every year at our local World of Wheels by the new owners. After I completed them, I was too nervous to drive them much, so they sat in my garage. Anyway, maybe I can offer some pointers from time to time.

I know it won't sound as good on here as it would live. Let us know your thoughts on the sound quality. Do some pulls 0-60 as well. What's the displacement of that motor etc.

If you’re into Back To The Future that much I recommend trying a game on steam called “No Time”. You can time travel in the game with the DeLorean.
@prophaniti15 жыл бұрын
If you cut four slots up the length of the threads on a bolt and then screw it in it will act like a tap and cut a thread as it goes in just remember to back off every quarter of a turn to break off swarf and use some lube to aid cutting then finish off by cleaning out the newly tapped hole before final fitment. It's rough mechanics but works if you don't have a tap. Oh the bolt screw you using needs to be a harder steel than what your tapping into or it won't cut.

I have a question,since the speedometer gear wasn't engaged could that be a "red flag" on the original miles on the car? also, with the caliper being stuck, how long did the car actually sit? I know from experience that calipers stick because of sitting for long periods of time. Thanks

We had one brand new when I was a kid. My Grandpa owned it. I have been obsessed with them ever since. I am a huge DeLorean nerd. I’m just not in the position to own one yet. Wife, kids, home ownership is taking priority for now.

In 1985 There was an '82 Delorean with only 6000 miles on it at a loan company (where Giggie's Bail Bonds is now) on Laurens Rd that had been used as collateral on a loan that had defaulted and they were selling...for $10,000, they were selling new for $25,000, so I shot to my bank (American Federal at that time) to get the money to buy it, but they had no way of putting a value on it for the loan, it wasn't in there "loan books" (hence probably why the guy went to that loan company) so finally after 2 weeks of the bank "researching" they said ok, but it was too late, someone had come in that morning and paid cash. And that is the "How I missed out on a Delorean Story"..lol

Make sure to use an appropriate engine oil for your De Lorean. The PRV is a flat-tappet engine and needs oil with good zinc-phosphorous compounds (ZDDP). You can do this with synthetics offered by Amsoil (probably best and certainly most expensive choice), use a diesel-rated oil (typically 15W-40 or -50-rated), or a conventional oil like GTX plus a ZDDP additive. Also, unless you live in Texas and drive the car regularly at 95-degree+ temperatures, don't use DMC Texas' viscosity recommendation of 20W-50. That's just stupid. Don't even think about using DMC Texas' recommendation of Castrol GTX without an additional ZDDP additive. Otherwise, your camshafts and valve train will suffer undue wear.

What kind of shape was it in when you purchased it? Any recent work done? How many miles? Was it a Daily Drive prior? Looks to be in pretty good condition all things considered. I've been in some ROUGH Delorean's!

Another thing with angle drives is the spring shaft could be gnarled up. Or the dust cap that is plastic witch holds the end of the shaft could be stripped.
