I trick I learned in 1602 back in the day and I made this standard practice...always make yer streets double wide paved or not. You would be amazed at how fast things happen...opposed to single lane/track streets and roads. Society builds much faster this way.

Pressing CTRL+SHIFT+R lets you walk around your city in first person.
