I need mine done ASAP, but in my opinion BMW should be doing this fix at no cost, after all it was apparently a design fault which they were allegedly aware of for a while. I guess £80 or so ain't too bad.. Looking forward to the update video. ;)

Have you had your car fixed? My car pulls either sides on motorway speeds. Bmw diagnosis and repair would be easily £150 or so.

this video is true, this is how I get rid of the problem in a repairing shop, they change this little thing for me and this cost me like HKD1,400, cant tell any more with my poor English haha

I took an appointment at BMW dealer, to change this bushing. They didn't even know about this. When I explained to them they were surprised. The part cost $58.00 CAD, and they said approximately 45 minutes job. I would do it myself but i don't have a tool.

I had this done two days ago by a BMW specialist garage. There is a few special tools you need to complete the work, not sure if a computer adjustment is needed. The kit was released by BMW on the 18/09/18. It was fitted to my car 430d 18/10/18 and so far has transformed the drive, honestly it feels like a brand-new new car. Get it done but don't do it yourself.

Part did fit, but my issue was not resolved. I think the problem is the lower steering column

There is also the power steering gearbox that can break and it wouldn’t even look like there’s anything wrong with it,it’s on the passenger front side right under the weather protector

This kit is very interesting...If you think about the parts in it you quickly realise that it's spring loaded and it's aimed at removing slack... the black pads on the U groove on that piston probably wear out to quickly on the original part. Unless the pads are completely shot on the original part there is no reason why a slight tightening (1/8 of a turn) won't fix the issue nicely. Even when using this kit... what is the right torque?

Is there a similar repair kit and fix for the F10? I have a 2014 535d with the same knocking noise. Thanks! I saw another video showing it could be loose bolts on the steering rack but that's not my problem.

Jon Fletcher where did you get it fixed from? I mean bmw uk? I’ve got the same issue a slight knocking noise and a very numb steering at motorway speeds car pulls either side on its own. I hear the knock on the left wheel but only when I reverse and brake or when I go back in to drive and brake. Just one knock per opposite first movement. The knock doesn’t annoy me but the drive and the steering feel does I’m assuming its this same issue as I’ve been to a few garages and they haven’t been able to diagnose it. Just got alignment done and thought its a fix but realised later today on higher speeds the steering feel is just not there.

Same issue on my car. This common solution didn't solve my problem but the sound comes indeed from the steering rack, or better said, steering box. When i reinstall the new kit , because i didn't have place to work with a torque wrench, i tighten the new nut until only 1 millimeter from the face of it, was outside. Any suggestions what it could be? If i tighten it more, let's say to be even with the steering housing, will solve my problem or i'll brake something? Best regards!

It’s now confirmed no need for computer calibration that applies only when the whole steeringrack is replaced. It needs wheel alignment for some reason. It’s less than 2 hours of labour.

Yeh knocking sound from the front left (or right if RHD), on bumpy roads or going over potholes.

My friend I had exactly the same I’m glad actually to find your comment coz my car is pissing me off. I have been to the garages got the wheel alignment done this and that but the problem is still there specially on 50mph plus speeds the cars steering feels lose as if it has a play. The car either pulls on one side or another and thats very annoying. Mine is 2015 F30. I’m sure bmw can fix this issue but they’ll charge a lot as in the UK the diagnosis itself is a £139 or so and then parts and labour on top.

I have a noise similar to this but it is not so loud and it is more like to feel when touching the wheel and also I feel the same knocking voice when touching the brake or accelerator pedal. have a 2013 BMW 335 F30 that made this noise in the direction when the car was off. After researching a lot on the subject I decided to take the car to a specialized garage in the hydraulic direction and asked the mechanic to tighten the screw on the steering box. Suddenly the mechanic, after hearing the noise of the car already said that he had to regulate the said screw that slacks with the time. Finished the service where it was done 1/8 of tightening by security the noise simply disappeared. Here is my report recommending not to tighten more than 1/8 to avoid that the direction is harder than the original.

can you describe when you hear the knocking sound? does your car seem to have a slight misalignment no matter how much you do front alignment? i'm trying to nail my steering rack noise too. it appears in low to medium speed 40km/h-60km/h when I turn the car slightly to the right. i can hear a soft knock on the front left side, that increase/decrease in frequency in relation to the car speed. with the steering wheel set straight, the car drift to left and i have to slightly pull the steering to the right.

Great news, the car was done the same day and it feels and drives like a dream! No, my steering was never loose, I could just hear this knock noise every time I drove over road errors and potholes. Maybe mine was early stage? How about your local BMW dealer? They must be able to order it for you. Where are you btw? If I can, Im happy to help...

I replaced this bushing but nothing changed, yes now when the engine is off there is much less knocking, but still some noise, and when engine running and i start to move slowly I still have a knock when playing with the steering wheel (right left). I thought it will disappear but it's not. So this bushing doesn't change anything. I just spent money for nothing.

Other guy in the US also on KZbin look him up thic f30. And he has a 328i same issue. He also got a letter of BMW with this. I checked once again.
