Part 1 is taking apart the movement and Main Spring barrel, cleaning and fresh clock oil. Also how to get the main spring back in the barrel and the cap back on.
Part 2 will be trying to clean the brass on the frame of the clock, How to get the Spring Wire made and connected to the clock.
Here I do most of my work on clocks. Mainly cuckoo clocks, yet I am always looking for the unusual and eye catching clocks. Some of the clocks I get into are ones that need saved from the dump. They fell off the wall from not succoring the clock to the wall using the stud behind the sheetrock. Some of the clocks were layer to rest out in the garage or barn and I except the challenge of getting them back together again.
A well loved clock at one time is one that has a lot of wear and you find old bushings that might need to be replaced.

You’re a pro! I’d drop parts, lose them, have some left over, etc. good job Mike.

I will admit that if you drop a nut or something small, you can bet it rolled around the box and wants to go out the door. I find them and wonder how it could travel so far away from where it first touched the floor. Thanks so much for stopping in Heritage Farms Texas.

I always put the clock back together minus the pallet fork. I then wind it up and let it run the mainsping down a couple of times and oil the pivots and put a tiny dip of oil on the gears - just to check all the teeth are engaging and the power train is smooth. Nothing worse than setting it all up testing it for a couple of days - taking it back to the customer and it stops

Normally I do the same, working in the oil and smoothing out anything I might have missed. That is certainly a nightmare when the clock stops after the customer gets the clock back. I always run the clock for two weeks to make sure nothing pops up unexpectedly. I also switched oils. I now use SAE 0W-20, Full Synthetic. Clock oil I was not happy with because it seemed I was always oiling my clocks again after a year.

I guarantee if you use brasso with a microfibre cloth you cannot scratch it - and it polishes up really well. There are no shortcuts or no magic formula, only brasso and elbow grease. Always remove the movement and separate the base and legs. The Polishing is the hardest part - putting it all back together is a joy

In the day, I use to use Brasso, but did take elbow work and not really happy with it. From there I went to Simichrome Polish that was very easy to use, but it wasn't cheap. And now I found MOTHERS Mag & Aluminum Polish that is very simple to use and not over $6.00 a container. You should try it and let me know what you think of it.

Eye sight is the most important but yes you need a steady hand to change the spring wire on one of these clocks. Thanks for stopping in Handicapped Traveler.

Those are intricate little clocks. I love those but they seem to be real sensitive to movements and sudden shake. They are pretty when they work correctly .
@justmike57
@justmike57 Жыл бұрын
You are right about sudden shakes. These need to be placed on a solid surface where little tikes can't move the table or rough housing going on. Most of these clocks are in older peplos homes that don't have a lot of kids coming to visit. Thanks so much for stopping by and God Bless TJ.

Hi Mike great video on the 400 day clock is there a difference between clock oil and main spring oil just asking thanks for sharing
@justmike57
@justmike57 Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a difference in oils. Watching others, they use regular clock oil on their barrel mainsprings. The open to the air spring, such as a parlor clock, I use a thicker oil that is made for the mainspring. Not as tight of a space for the spring to open much more than a barrel spring. This is just my thoughts and what I have seen.
