I am fine tuning the ones I make. I use the mini led xmas lights and wire them into poly tube using 2 aaa rechargeable bats. The battery holder/connector has been driving me mad but yours is an elegant solution.

Just a little tip for your videos, most girls know it because they do it all the time and make up videos when they are showing their brushes up close, but if you put something behind some thing that you weren’t really close to the camera it will focus on it so if you had twisted it down right in front of the table or something like that it would’ve worked. The thing is you’re using both hands and doesn’t seem to have a cameraman so maybe you already know that but it wasn’t possible lol just thought it might be helpful

I have an idea☝🏻🤓 to save you some frustration… Take a piece of string on a paper clip or something like that and drop it through the hoop… Then clip it onto your bubble wrap Maybe tape it so it stays connected, to the wire and pull it through! Sorry for all the comments… Hopefully it was helpful to you. You sure helped me a lot thank you!

I would use a couple of tricks...texta the end of your battery tube so you know how far to push...use small screws into the stopper as rivets might not hold...and you don't have to predrill your connector holes...you can do them in situ with a Stanley knife.

I finally got around to try this so I wanted to share my - bad - experience. I was on the 10th LED, green after 3 each red orange and yellow and I checked as I had with each LED and it flickered. SO I tried with the 3.7V battery instead of the button one and it fizzled and all but the green LED died. It took me ages to figure out what it was because I blamed the green LED or the position before I realised red orange and yello just died with the 3.7V battery. White, Balck light green pink and blue are fine. I bought the same LEDs with the same specs from the same shop. Can't figure out why some died and some worked. So bye bye rainbow hoop. On my way to make a white and black light one now... FAB tutorial though and with the new no switch bit in part 2, it's the best solution I've seen.

Let me first say that you have the best LED hoop making tutorial that I've been able to find on youtube. So, thank you. I'm running into a problem though and I'm hoping you can help me. I wired up the first 3 LED lights and everything works great but when I go to wire up the next LED, that fourth LED lights up and the others go out. I can't go any farther. I'm using a 3v. Coin cell battery to test them and their 5mm LED's just like in your video. I am using 18 guage speaker wire though because that's all I could find.
@IamAlexM16

I was using different colored 5mm led's and was having that problem. I just did a strand of all red's and it worked. I guess maybe some of the different color led's require different voltages or something. Oh well, it's working. Thanks again.
@OolaHula
@OolaHula 10 жыл бұрын
Alex Marlowe Red is the one color LED that runs on a different voltage than most other colors something to do with the frequency of the red light. They actually sell red ones with built in resistors to run with other colors but they are pricey. I heard one suggestion for red is white with a red sharpie marker. Simple solution to a complex problem.

You mentioned in another comment that the red LED'S run at a different voltage and can come with built in resistors (to expensive for me and my son really wants red) instead of using a sharpie couldn't you just add a resistor yourself to each red one? Am I right in thinking you can mix orange, yellow, white and red and only need a resistor for the reds? And does it go on the negative or positive end?

My fiancé is an electrician, he was able to help me with the wires...however he has no experience with LEDs. We strung them along the wire and tested them on another hoop (ultra fire)battery that I have they all lit but 3. Then we tried a 3.2v rechargeable battery We found after lots of looking...doing this Half the LEDs lit up. We added a resister and another battery and there still unlit. Any idea what went wrong? I really enjoyed watching this and trying to put it to practice. thank you for your time.

What kind of LEDs are these because if each has a 1.2-ish voltage drop then shouldn't you only be able to light 3 with a 3.6v battery?
@OolaHula
@OolaHula 5 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t quite work like that. The LED’s you’ll want to use for a hoop are 3.7 volts that run at 20mAh. Using a 3.7volt battery. The length of time you can run a string of led’s is determined by milliamp hours (mAh). So if you have 30 LED’s on a string and light it with a 3.7v 600mAh battery (a typical 5/8 hoop battery) you should theoretically get an hour of light although the lights dim towards the end and strobing/blinking lights tend to tax batteries faster as well.

Ah! I didn’t know you could do that with the battery to test it… I thought you would get electrocuted lol I mean I know it’s not the same as an electrical outlet but I know big batteries exploded so I wasn’t sure. Very helpful

What kind of battery are you using. If its a coin cell for testing then stack a couple coin cells together and increase the volts or the battery is going dead. If its the 3.6v trustfire, it probably needs charging. If its a AA battery, you'll need a micropuk dc to dc stepup to continue using AA's.

Is it better to use the rigid or the flexible tubing? (trying to find wich one to buy from www.mcmaster.com ) I'm used to polyethylene 3/4" 160psi ... but because of the led and bubble wrap that goes in it... I'm thinking buying a less heavy tubing (was thinking buying a 3/4" 100psi) so it would make a similar weight. In your informations, you're giving the link to buy the tubing, you say to buy the .814, but you give the links for the rigid (High-Pressure/Vacuum Polyethylene Tubing) and for the flexible (Crack-Resistant Polyethylene Tubing) tubing.... which one should I use? thanks!! ps: sorry for my english, I'm french canadian

I usually get my led's here ledfedy.com/product_list.php?CateId=17 I get 5mm strobe, flashing and ribbon LED's. The main thing to look for is the voltage to be 4-4.5 volts so it works with a typical hoop battery.

ok, so I am gathering my supplies and getting the LEDs from the ledfedy website. I am planning to use pink colored LED, solid orange ribbon, violet strobe and violet/white strobe and I am very much hoping this will work lol I plan on using the 3.7V ultrafire lithium battery with the single AA battery holder. I was also thinking of getting a pack of the flashing RGB for the heck of it, but I am confused, will these be ok to string along with other colors despite the red? or does it being "flashing" make it not matter about the red? thanks for you tutorial and help btw!
@OolaHula
@OolaHula 9 жыл бұрын
Flashing are fine with any other. I found grouping four or five of the same type has the best effect. My first with multiple types I alternated each LED and it really didn't look good.

the leds you got, how did you get the ones that blink fast and then slow without resistors ??
@OolaHula
@OolaHula 9 жыл бұрын
+marshal conrade They just don't need resistors if used with the 3.7v rechargeable batteries. The lights don't stay on any one color long enough to put a harsh charge on them. The other types I use have a max forward voltage of 4V so they are safe to use without a resistor.

@OolaHula
@OolaHula 9 жыл бұрын
I am making another tutorial using smaller tubing and eliminating the battery holder altogether. It requires two button connectors and a spring pulled from a dead toy, radio, flashlight battery compartment. one button connector has the spring soldered to it along with the neg. end. mount it back the distance of the battery. the other pushbutton connector is soldered to the pos wire..when the hoop connects, the two pushbutton connectors complete the circuit. a second hole is drilled back a half inch to turn it off by separating the hoop so the ends don't make contact but the hoop still stays together. I hope that helps.
