The guy who owned the vacant property next to me let me run PVC across (under) his property to outfall at a low spot. Then he sold the property, and the new owner said he intends to build a house right where my pipe is. I re-did the project, cutting off the existing pipe, turning 90 degrees and running 90 feet of new PVC under my own property out to the street... that was two years ago, and the new owner hasn't started any work yet. 🤔

I'm always impressed by your humility. Your employee told you to wait on glueing something, and you listened to him. Ron has to be the hardest-working man in S.C. What a job this was! That modern garage looks pretty bad-ass, despite not blending with the house. Then again, someone committed the sin of painting the brick on what was once a charming house. Oh well.

Same here. It has also made me more aware of some the stupid decisions my council makes when building new road infrastructure like bike paths, traffic calming and raised ped crossings. Once where drainage just worked now you get backups of water flooding streets and bike paths. Lol

As a home builder in Texas i get geotechnical engineering reports for foundations and 1 thing i think that you could do is what geotech engineers recommend is when u build up dirt against the side of the house you do a smaller slope then install a thick poly membrane on top of that then add the rest of your dirt on top of that membrane. When water does soak thru the dirt it hits the membrane and redirects water away from the foundation and any basement
@7alfresco

That depends on the composition of the soil. Clay is impermeable to water.

Hard to believe they did all this planning, pulled permits, construction and got toward the bitter end of construction before considering rain. PS - got to say that black garage does make a statement of sorts.

William - we've been involved with the drainage stuff from the start. I just wanted the garage to be finished before we started our work. This job has come a very long way and parts 2 and 3 should be awesome videos!

This seems to be the best time to do the drainage work along with bringing in dirt. Construction is done and finish landscaping hasn't been started. It's a shame the basement got flooded, but sometimes these things happen. If they ran the pipes and brought in the dirt before starting, pipes could've been damaged and dirt moved causing them to grade twice. I think they did consider rain at the right time, they just had to deal with a storm before they could get to that part of the job. He even wrote that he worked with the owner and builder from the beginning on the drainage issues.
@Goodvibes-Adventures
@Goodvibes-Adventures Жыл бұрын
I would think part of the permit process would be water runoff and slope. Would be final phase inspection.. alot of new home tracts and city properties never consider water runoff...And want completely flat landscape...Houses and buildings should always be higher than surrounding property...

Big job! After watching some of these videos, you really get an appreciation for the complexity. Shawn is more like an engineer because of the problem solving involved. It’s also quite a mix of disciplines: plumbing, fluid dynamics, plant and soil science, foundation construction fundamentals, heavy machinery operation… the list goes on. The crew also need varied skills and considerable experience - can’t just hire anyone off the street to manage all the pipe fitting, bedding, and all the peripheral tasks. It’s not a simple field. Great work and look forward to part 2!
@GCFD
@GCFD Жыл бұрын
That's a very good point. I often think all I need to know is "water flows downhill" and I continue to be confused as to why other contractors do the things the way they do. I try to think about the best and simplest solution to the problem at hand. Often a single solution will not apply to different situations. Just yesterday I kept pointing to a downspout buried with corrugated as the source of lingering mud and the HO just didn't want to hear it. He finally put the garden hose on it and 10 mins later a trickle came out of the other end.

I'd probably add a surface drain in line with the neighbors drain. Not to let surface water in, but to let water out if by some extremely remote chance the garage owner's drain clogged. Don't want garage owner causing neighbor to have an issue. Yeah, I admit I'm a worrywart - It's a curse. Always have a Plan B. But kudos to the neighbor for allowing the owner to tie into his downspout. Heck of a nice looking garage too.

I've been using a 18" sod cutter to remove sod, then making more passes to achieve the appropriate depth of ground cut, shovel out the loose dirt and reinstalling sod. I've trimmed labor by 60%, better finished product and have happier customers. The Bluebird SC550 sod cutter works very well

I believe that green pipe by the new brick wall is Sch35 SDR, Not sch30 Im with you on using Sch40 if cost is not a factor but sch35 below ground or where not subuject to high traffic loads (like heavy vehicles) installed correctly is good stuff Sch30 and corrugated are trash but sch35 is a substantial upgrade over those two types it is perfectly suitable for underground drainage and sewer installations. Foam core Sch 40 DWV offer very few advantages over it in that application, though again if cost is not a factor I would choose Sch40.

Wow really enjoyed the video. Such nice looking houses but seem to be in a bit of disrepair. Can't wait for the next parts!

How many downpipes can go into a 4 inch pipe before it is best to upgrade to a 6 inch pipe. How many 4 inch pipes can be connected and fed into a 4 inch pipe.

Theres another gutter pipe just next to the air con hoses, is that not being catched into the drainage system?

That gutter pipe is actually a cover for the second story lineset. I can't tell you how many times I thought it was a downspout we missed. 👍

It is amazing to see you showing when tou make mistakes and yes they were minor but so many try to hide everything which make myself question what large mistakes that I haven't seen are you potentially hiding as well

A dry river bed of river rock going further into the yard could also look great from the outfall pipe.

I think so too. The HO may do some more stuff out there after the garage and addition are completed.
