Botajell , wrote to you the other day when i ordered my LOSI rtr nitro 8ight truggy as i am getting back into the hobby , truggy arrived yesterday, and today , me and my friend took a long (5 hour there and back , there was a ton of traffic , even though i'm only about 32 miles away) ride to "track day hobbies" , got to meet Ray his wife and all the others there . they are awesome, had everything i needed to start my brake in and to start having fun . the inventory said they had a glow plug ignitor but they could not find it , so they sold me one they had in the back , so accommodating made me super happy . i also went to the hardware store , got a heat gun , 3 in 1 oil and a temp gun . going to do it the Botajell way , years ago when i had nitro was pretty reckless with my stuff , it broke alot . whenever i need anything will take the journey back to "track day hobbies" . peace brother , zzzeeeaaaahhhh...now i will be studying this video and part 2 , if i have any '?' i'll get back to you , hope thats cool ...john...

Well explained, my first dynamite .28 I followed your instructions and it ran amazing for a LONG time. I ruined my last engine early on going for the low idle (no wheel spin) during break in and later kicked myself for not returning back to this video. That's exactly where I fucked up as you stated at 27:48. Should've just richened the high-speed needle a bit and not fucked with the low-speed needle (idle) right off the bat. Ended up snapping connecting rods. I'm more careful with the head warmer now as well and bought a heat gun lol. Headed out this morning, hoping to break in a long lasting engine!! Subscribed.

So should I use this method? I’ve always followed the Manual but you have broken in hundreds of engines, so you should know best. Also can i do this properly if I do it in the winter. And can I avoid tuning while it’s running in the first tank by just resetting the needles?

@@PaulC112 if you are still wondering I'm going with the truggy. Truggy has bigger tires/everything which is better for bashing. It also has a real steering servo. The buggy is better if you plan to race it, but it has a servo that barely functions as a throttle servo as it's steering servo. Waiting for them to get back in stock.

My Dynamite .21 in my 8ight RTR just lost its pinch at 1.6 gallons. Broken in faithfully by the book. Only driven on the track, which is tight and technical (no top speed shenanigans). Every day it would get a fresh new air filter inside the Motor Saver Outer Saver. First gallon Nitrotane 20%, then Byron's 30/9% for a quart then 30/11%. Never changed the # of head shims but I don't see signs of detonation (always ran on the richer side for safety). Thought I was doing everything right with all the maintenance efforts. Got a Novarossi P5XLT on the way and I def hope I can make it last longer. Any advice?

Hey botajell. After watching your vids you convinced me to get a losi 8ight t rtrlol. I just purchased it got it broken in. Now everytime I give it throttle it cuts out is this cause the carb isn’t adjusted correctly.
@BOTAJELL6 жыл бұрын
That’s because your probably still rich as hell from break in. Don’t touch your idle screw only lean (turn to the right ) your low speed needle to raise your idle if the idle sound goes up to much just back it down a bit. Then put it on the floor and do some full throttle runs and if it’s to sluggish or way to smoky ? You must keep leaning out your hi speed needle!!! Do not lean your high to much that it will cause a bad sound or no sign of any smoke 💨! You must see a little bit of smoke . Some guys lean there hi speed fine and then they want more but your not going to get anymore unless you upgrade to a better engine like a Novarossi 28-8 or a Picco Boost .28 or a LRP X series.30 and .32 Spec 4

@BOTAJELL6 жыл бұрын
Ben G first off congratulations 🎊🍾🎉 Man now we are related because we are Nitro Brothers !! Good stuff! Best way to turn off a Nitro Engine is to use a rubber nitro engine stopper that you can get from DE racing. I turn my Nitros off like that and sometimes just by covering the exhaust pipe but try to use that rubber stopper on the flywheel from underneath the chassis. Sometimes I use the edge of my boot .

Hey John! Started breaking in that LRP. did a few heat cycles with the gun, when I went to run the idle had a hell of a time getting it to start. Moved fine, just wouldn't fire up. Changed the plug, started right up and idled the full tank, super rich but the temp dropped to the low 100's over the course of the idle. Let it cool, then went for a second idle, but can't get it to fire up again. Any thoughts?
@BOTAJELL7 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Sargent make sure when you run it the temps are at 200 or 225 degrees! Use a heat gun! If it's to hard to start ? You can loosen the glow plug then once she starts you can snug it back up again
@benjaminsargent67187 жыл бұрын
not hard to pull, just won't start. Floods. Also it cools down as it's idling. Went from about 200 down to 100 while idling on that first tank. I had brought it back up.lots of fuel coming out of exhaust. possibly too rich to start or do I have something wrong?
@BOTAJELL7 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Sargent keep the heat gun on her until 215 225 or 200 and keep checking the temps so it stays at the temperature. But keep an eye on her because you don't want it to overheat! If you see it at 265 on your break in just stop and put Piston at BDC and let it cool down. That is a heat cycle . Just keep doing that until she starts to run good.its going to flood because it's crazy rich (Fat) so open the Carb a bit so some air gets in there and it will fire 🔥 up better! Once it run just keep it running.

@BOTAJELL5 жыл бұрын
I’m not picturing it in my mind at the moment but yes I think so . First and Hong you do is adjust the end points on your remote! Make sure when you full throttle it don’t over full throttle! Only let the servo stop once it’s flush with the vinturie or just a cunt hair in from flush and when you let go of the throttle, make sure it drops quickly that carburetor is back down! Then adjust your breaking and steering so you don’t over do it and burn out your servos

Also does my fuel have to be mixed up with extra castor or can I use 20%?
@BOTAJELL4 жыл бұрын
You can use a Byron’s 20-16% fuel to break in your new engine then switch to Byron’s 30-11% if you want or just use 30-11 right now and just run it rich . Both these fuels from Byron’s already has the 50/50 mix of castor oil and synthetic so there’s no need to add more castor oil

ok I started breaking in. I am trying to keep temperature up on the 200F, what happens if the temp goes too high? should i richen the high speed needle? to keep temperature balance?
@BOTAJELL6 жыл бұрын
k00LGuY671 no because your already rich and if you richen anymore it will stall. Some engines are tighter then others and some engines take longer then others but if it gets to 250 and above ? You must use a small fan next to your engine or a regular fan a few feet away from your engine then you will most likely see temps go down but don’t go to low and do not lean your engine during break in for temps to be hotter. One time I had a new engine that got to 275 degrees Fahrenheit and I was like wtf?? And it only ran for 3 minutes so I shut it down, placed my piston at bottom dead center and let it completely cool down to room temperature and by doing this it’s conceded heat cycling . After cool down a preheated my new engine to 200 and fired it up and it happened again so I did the same thing over and over. The next day i preheated the new engine fires it up and it never did this again there were no more temperature spikes and 3 years later I still have that engine running strong and she sounds great

I have broken in many and many Nitros this way as well and I also did it this way to my TNS Modified LRP .32 and that Engine took one hell of a beating all year long and she still runs great today!! I have the longest still running Modified TNS .32 ! So something was done correctly! My 32 has outlasted the Modified 32 from the man that mods them and I’m not easy on my RCs either . Warming with a heat gun is only really warming the heatsink, not the actual engine. No?

Go around the engine and head and take the reading from the head that’s your base point on reading always. On new NITRO engines during break ins make sure temps are at least 200 degrees Fahrenheit and under 260. If the engine is cold 🥶? It will not break in properly and it f it over heats ? Put a fan near by the engine to cool it and keep temps between 200 and 260 degrees Fahrenheit.
