CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh, travels with a group of migrants as they make the arduous trek on foot through Central and South America.
The journey through the Darien Gap is a perilous jungle crossing between Colombia and Panama that many migrants must face as they head north to seek asylum in the United States. Over five harrowing days, Paton Walsh hikes the full 66-mile roadless route, documenting the heroism of everyday people, milked for cash by drug cartels and unwanted by any country, as they battle the dense rainforest in search of a better life. Watch 'The Whole Story With Anderson Cooper' Sundays at 8PM ET on CNN.

As an immigrant myself who escaped Vietnam in the 80's with my family as a child, I can relate to these people. People are looking for better lives so don't judge until you walk in their shoes. The journey of getting out is never easy. Yes, life is not easy here in America but hell, certainly a lot better than where they come from.

The escape from Vietnam was harrowing. My friend Vi Vi's sister didn't make it out. She describes her as stuck. Vietnamese refugees have proven to be patriotic, loyal, contributors to the American spirit. The current immigrants will do the same. We are more alike than we are different. Life will get better here! Love my Vietnamese friends!

Comparing those fleeing war to the economic migrants, which make up a vast majority of the ILLEGALS entering the USA today, is laughable but yet disgusting. We didn't see war refugees attacking NYPD and giving the USA the middle finger like we're seeing today.

Whataboutism logical fallacies ( broken logic) does not help our unhoused combat veterans. Changing cannabis laws and funding homeless vouchers and transitional housing does. Trump stole tens of millions from our veterans for work on his stupid wall that fell down from rain. If you want to fix the border then fix the border, if you want to help veterans then help veterans but you conservative libertarian types don’t want to do either you want to give tax breaks to the rich and hobble the IRS so that nothing can be done about anything. what are the major legislative achievements of the republican Congress nothing embarrass themselves again and again, putting on display to America’s enemies just how dysfunctional the government has become because one of the political parties has been replaced by a cult

I don't understand, they are not being forced to make that trip! It's by choice. If they weren't being encouraged by the current administration, they wouldn't be coming. I truly feel for the children being put through this. But, why do they expect for American taxpayers to take care of them? By the way, they look quite clean for people who have been traveling for days through the jungle. 7 million have crossed the border illegally since 1.21, what they don't understand is that America will soon be like the countries they are leaving.

Do you not understand undocumented immigrants cannot get government help? We can’t get federal aid, social security benefits, vote, buy guns, get a license, and we have tax payer ids so we can pay the taxes of this country! American taxpayers don’t take care of them American taxpayers go to play for border enforcement, detention centers and courts. They have a legal right to hear their petition for asylum or refugee status heard by an immigration judge but no it is illegal for undocumented migrants to receive public assistance. These people usually move in with people they know they work they pay taxes, but cannot receive benefits from their taxes. Migrants came during trumps period. Also, are you saying that he encouraged them often people leave because they have found out that they are on a hit list.

It’s sad man. I had few young coworkers from Venezuela and Peru that when they started at the company they had only been in the US for about 10 days. Some of the funniest, most honest and Hardest working people I’ve met, they’ve been here 10 days and already have found work. Something one of them said that will stick with me is when I asked “why did you come to X city of all places? Did you have a choice?” He said “it is the city that welcomed me so here I am” - that’s something you would never hear an American say. We have American citizens who are perfectly capable of working that claim disability, stand on a corner and beg, or e-beg etc. - and people still have the nerve to say “they’re stealing our jobs” One guy even bought a cheap car here and said it was his first time driving a car, he asked questions about the car and what type of gas he should use I helped him out. All they want is a better life for themselves and their family. Some are even sending supplies and money back to their family.

Nothing good comes out of continuously helping ppl run away from their problems rather than bringing solutions to the problems that's causing them all to run away from it in the 1st place...& until that happens I can almost GUARANTEE you this humanitarian crisis will continue to go on for even more decades to come with waves after waves of these ppl storming to the U.S boarder. We have inflated housing prices because we dont have enough roofers. But do support higher taxes and inflation when they come to use social services and send our currency to their family back in the homeland. @Julius_s19 Жыл бұрын
@@s.p.8803 No. The pilgrims and settlers when they crossed the ocean worked and didn't want to start a new life living under the radar and evading paying taxes. However by the time of the Revolutionary War (1775) they choosed to brake away as a Colony to form a nation, not to evade paying taxes or to have services provided for them, but to have representation for taxation. Something which at the time the British parliament wasn't letting the colonies have and just taxed people without consideration of inflation, local supply/demand, or other trivial cost that just kept stacking up. There's way more to the history of American immigration than just simplistic "but they were all immigrants". Some also were sent here without their will, like those who were exiled from Britain (such as prisoners or religious groups), indented services, slaves, etc. Meanwhile these modern immigrants are not fleeing because they are outcast of their nation, or to look for better life, but to seek the benefits and safety our nation has established for itself. I've net immigrants who told me those they meet who come through illegally are doing so not to immigrate, but to just work and funnel money out to their families to pay the cartel. It's more to it than the media cares to dig into. Not to mention the human child sex traffic, drugs, weapons, invasive animal and insect species, etc. Again, as much as im okay with immigration, im not for a free for all. We have a process like every other nation has. Nobody else on earth just lets people in, let alone cares not about who sneaks around their borders. The border patrol needs and deserves more funding, as well as the departments within agencies that deal with such example of problems as given.
