They took the long hard route. Indians go to Canada as international students but obtain jobs, use food banks for the homeless. The Canadian government caves in to their protests to stay, work and claim permanent residence when they were suppose to leave after "studies". Hundreds of thousands of Indians have done this in the past year. If they choose to go to the US, it's easier with a base in Canada although some can't wait, a few died crossing by foot in winter. Some Canadians have noticed the substantial increase in the Indian population out of every other group and are miffed at their demands. To be fair there are just as many Indians crossing the Mexico border.

The Asylum process is broken in soo many ways. It's so obvious that so many people are lying and being coached as to how to get papers in this country. Meanwhile, people who try to get visas the legal way just keep being denied left, right and center. Some of these MIGHT have experienced persecution or have fears of persecution back in China (as the lawyer said is all that is legally necessary), yet why do all these people get let in and can stay here for years while giving birth to new American citizens. Congress should have passed the recent asylum and refugee reform bill but instead they chose to play politics. Everyone now knows they can just walk into America and face almost no penalties.

The US is not a paradise, however it’s much easier for the average person to live a good life if you work hard enough. In the past 40 years the US is getting richer just like many other countries around the world. I remember my parents came here as war refugees in the 80s because they have no choice. We were very poor relied on food stamps and welfares, we lived in the high crimes ghetto neighborhoods and felt unsafe walking to our school bus stop. We couldn’t afford anything fancy and my parents drove old crappy cars. Today we can afford more nice things, live in safer neighborhoods, and better off financially compared to 30 years ago. American dreams aren’t dead yet.
