Part 12. Mess stress! Time to clean house as we move! General Store

After combining two stores into one… I’ve come to the conclusion that I have way too much stuff! Kastner auctions (kauctions.ca) and myself will be clearing out a bunch of extra inventory in the very near future, but for now, in this episode I go through my stock, clear things out and get some extra work done on the old store as I start to prepare for our eventual grand opening! 💕 fun story About jelly bellies. Before they were famous because of President Reagan the jelly belly factory was in the town adjacent to where I grew up. I was born and raised in Waukegan Illinois which is right on Lake Michigan and then the north east corner of Illinois. The adjacent town to Waukegan just south of Waukegan was North Chicago. Sidebar. - North Chicago was not connected to Chicago. It was a fun trip to North Chicago to go to the Candy factory to get some jelly bellies. A fun memory. Jennie Adams - I believe you’re thinking of the * jelly bean*. That’s a different candy. The actual Jelly Belly was invented in California in 1976. The factory is now in Fairfield, CA where I used to live.

Funny bear story. My hubby was headed to work out in the middle of nowhere pre dawn. Oops a dear jumped out and got hit. He gets out to check the car, deer seemed to be dead. He did nt want to just leave it there for someone to hit. So he lugged this bigger deer around to back seat and pushed it in. He was going to pick up his buddy and hoped that he would know someone who would take the deer. All of a sudden that deer decided to revive. and started thrashing around in the back seat. Danny decided to stop quickly and jumped out to let the deer have all the room it needed.

Remember if your clock is a little slow, screw the adjustment screw on the bottom of the pendulum, go up. Speedup, go up slow down, go down If you put your ear on the side of the clock, you can hear the swing, you need the same amount of time on the left and right swing. Push the bottom of the clock one way or the other till you get the same swing time. When you get it perfect, move that bottom plate until it centered. when you get the swing right, put small marks on the wall for future reference.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome on the zoning. It would be ridiculous if they turned you down after the city has approached you about featuring your store in their tourism brochures. (BTW I owned a 1971 Pontiac Catalina and you could totally fit a bear in the trunk!)

Although I live only an hour from Edinburgh and visit weekly I hadn’t seen Edinburgh rock for decades until last week when someone gave my 96yo Dad a box and now here you are, half a world away with loads of boxes. This video was more helpful to me than you'd realize. When I was a kid back in the early '70's my aunt returned from a trip to Scotland with some amazing candy for me. For years I've looked for that candy and today I found it...in your store!! It's the Edinburgh Rock Candy!! I remember it was like chalk but tasted so great! Thanks, Alex!!

For extra shelving for displaying stuff, take the doors off the kitchen cabinets. The city approves the zoning, they want to put your store in a brochure for tourist attraction. I think you got this Alex, approved......

Your bear story is hysterical! 🤣. Reminds me of a t-shirt I bought when we visited Winnipeg in 2011. It’s solid white with just simple black dots and lines for a bear eyes, nose, and mouth. Caption: “Canadian polar bear in a snowstorm”. I almost bought another one with a cartoon of a bear chasing a man: “Canadian Fast Food.” 🤣

ROAD TRIP! We live in California...but I would love to visit your lovely General Store when it opens. Notice I said "when". 👍I heard a cat story similar to the bear "tail", only the knocked out cat woke up in the trunk and started meowing and going crazy. When they opened the trunk it shot off into the woods. I now keep a cat carrier in my vehicle in case I come across what seems to be road kill. Now after your story I need to get a bear cage for my car! ⛟

The clock tab at the bottom is a minute adjustment if it's to fast or to slow per hr tilt which way it needs per how much time out.

The repair man's bear story is exactly what happened in the movie Tommy Boy! Only they hit a giant buck, and very foolishly (for movie's sake) put it in the backseat. That candy display wasn't just broken, it looked completely pulverized, how did that even happen? I know it's super hard leaving any place you're so used to and seeing it empty is depressing... But ( not like I need to tell you), the new venture is so exciting! It's difficult sometimes but this calculated sacrifice will only lead you to better things. Oh my lord, A Canadian Bear Tale: So I know I'm late gettin' home... Seein' as I stopped to fish in one more stream. But the real problem was the car. No wait, I can explain. There I was hauling myself across the road thinkin' mebbe I shoulda laid off that last dozen salmon, cause I'm movin bout as fast as a dead moose with a loose rack o' antlers draggin' behind... And sure enough I get my fat behind clipped, and last thing I remember was thinkin' "this is gonna hurt"... No, no I'm fine, a little bruised up and my head hurts some... but that's not the car I meant. You're gonna say I'm crazy or got me one of them concussions, but I'm comin' round a bit, feeling woozy, and instead of that ditch I'm in a dark cave- ON CARPET! I'm tellin ya, for a minute there... But that cave is a hummin and vibratin and rumblin like you wouldn't believe- and when I try and stand up it's BONK on my poor sore head AGAIN! I'm comin to it, give me a chance, eh? So I'm groanin and a'wonderin if I went and passed on or sumtin when suddenly there's the most terrible caterwallin from the wall of the cave, and it's HUMANS! Well, I just knew I hadda get outa there like last winter, so I reared up real fast like- and the WHOLE TOP OF THE CAVE SAILED OFF! And that's not even the crazy part... I'm standin up in the back of one of those dang CARS, told ya I'd get to the car, and it's a'roarin down the road, humans inside the box are shoutin at me, and it's weavin all over the place too! So it seemed to me that was not the safest place to be... So's I made a leap for the ditch that was flying past, tumbled into the grass like a 2 day old cub fallin out'a a tree, made a run for the trees- then realized I'm a good hour's run from where the FIRST car walloped me... So yeah, I'm sorry I'm late, it was a heckuva day hunny.

I really appreciate you going to great lengths to make sure everything is wheelchair accessible. Its against the law in the USA for places of buisness to not be accessible but so few smaller shops actually are. On days when I have to use mine I'm pretty restricted to Wal-Mart, target and grocery stores. 🤗

I'm glad Edmonton Tourism is taking an interest in what you are building, it'll be a great addition. All those gifty/Candy items you added are good choices, when we had a gift shop at our Visitor Centre those items were very popular. Our other item that was very popular were candy bags that had assorted jelly type candies, the kind that you use to mix and match when you were a kid. We had to put them together with gloves in small zip lock bags, but they sold like hot cakes. XD

💥You totally Rock! Some items for online auction may just be that ONE thing that someone out there needs. (like one rare hub cap😁we actually have a hub cap store here in my town.) Some stuff may be Great for including in a Grand Opening sale!? If some items are more precious or too large, maybe sharing the photos in the store, like a catalog, could help with sales and storage.. I love that clock! I want that clock! I wish! My Westminster wall clock has a slightly crooked door that throws off the look of the whole clock being level.. 🌝 Rock Candy! Good luck with the zoning but it’s unlikely you’ll need it. The improvements you’ve made to the surroundings alone has already made the area a nicer place for the neighbours and I imagine the local stores will be looking forward to you bringing more custom into their patch.
