Dynasty has some great songs. Aside from the obvious, I really like “Dirty Livin” (I dont know why it gets bashed as much as it does), and I love Ace’s contributions: “ Save Your Love”, “2000 Man”, “Hard Times” are all great.

Dirty Living is a great song BUT, it should've been on Peter's SOLO Album. It wouldv'e been great on his Solo Album, but, is lost on Dynasty. It doesn't fit in with Hard Times, Charisma. SAVE Your Love etc. Dont get me wrong, I love Dirty Livin' but it should be on either the Solo album, or. Unmasked.

Kiss fan from the mid ‘70’s. Dynasty has a special place in my life. I was 18 when it came out and was in my first serious relationship. She was 17 years older than me. Almost every song said something about her. A year later we were married. Four years later we were divorced. Kiss was still Kiss.

My very first concert was KISS and Judas Priest in Kansas City on the Dynasty tour in 1979, and as a 16-year old KISS fan at that time, I even knew the band had jumped the shark. I believe that Gene and Paul were responsible for the Disco-tinged songs on that album. Ace Frehley still gets sh*t talked about him by Gene and Paul, yet he was the Rock & Roll heart of the band. If I was Ace, I also would have wanted to leave KISS at that point. They haven't been the same or as vital since...

When I was 9 years old I'd come home from school and fire up the TV to watch 'Speed Racer' and 'Battle of the Planets'. It was during this time that KISS was selling a silver satin jacket with the Dynasty faces on the back. Everyday my best friend and I would wait for the commercial to air and when it did, we'd call each other up afterward and compare notes on what we saw. It was a MAJOR deal for us back then to come across ANY video of the band because that's just how it was back then. If something like KZbin were available back then, we would have never left the house.

Oh, they were talking about expenses.. Since 77 Gene, Paul and Ace were using the Schaffer Vega True Diversity Wireless System. At that time, they cost over $5000..and 3 were needed. It was after Ace's mis-hap when KISS and other bands started using them. AC\DC and Heart were 2 of the other groups to use the SV Wireless. Today you can get the Line 6 50 which is far superior for less than $300.

There are some really good songs in Dynasty. No over the top hard rock songs they’ve been known for up to that point, but some very well written and slickly produced pop-rock songs. I love how Anton played drums very subdued so as to not be so obvious that it’s not Peter, but still laying down some tasteful drum tracks.

I don't understand the 'having to justify' I Was Made For Loving You business.... It's a damn good song. The chord moves are slick, the melody is great and it has an electricity to it that is infectious. It's one of those songs that always existed somewhere in the ether since the beginning of time, like Hey Jude or something, and Paul just plucked it. Good job Paul. From a guy who loves Progressive Rock, Thrash and Classical music, good f'n job.

It is only now, at 50 yrs old, that I am starting to see the internal mechanism of gears and levers that controlled KISS... or as we call him, Paul Stanley. Gene gets all the crap. But Paul was the one who shat on everyone. As a musical influence, he is one of the greatest. But as a human being, he comes up quite short of the expectations I place on even myself. He takes every opportunity to belittle every other member of the band he saw as "his". It's simply a miracle he landed with the guys he did, because any other band's members would likely have sent him to intensive care for having an attitude so pompous and inflated. His ego casts a shadow of darkness over even the "King of Ego", Gene Simmons. Paul is a great songwriter, riff-master, and singer, Paul Stanley hid a selfish and self-righteous mentality that sparked possibly EVERY conflict contained within KISS' self-erected walls of isolation. I owe Gene an apology. I'm sorry, Demon. I misunderstood. (Even tho you served up a fair amount of drama too.) The trio of you, Peter, and Ace are Saints for enduring any amount of Paul's vanity. Thanks for the music. It appears we were lucky to get any of it... ✌

Dennis, Well written, articulated and said ! Paul is and will ways be a narcissist. I've worked in the field of mental health and dealt with 'certified narcassists'. They are very hard work and consider their narcissm as 'leadership.' It gets more extreme. E.g. every thing, including the world, evolves around them. Blatant Lie about: I Was Made for Loving You- Paul wrote a blatant commercial 'hit.' What self serving crap. Reality - he was jealous of Ace's surprise hit New York Groove. Paul used Vini Poncia to write I was Made for Lovin' You. Vini Poncia was a disco devotee. New York Groove as Bill Aucoin said, 'pleasantly caught everyone by surprise like Beth did." Paul became insanely jealous.

I even agree with the comment by Gene that Ace could have been on a level with the best rock guitar players if he had focused on his creativity and his playing more instead of getting fucked up. I don't judge him , I like to get out of it myself but if I had his intelligence and talent I would cultivate it first and get wasted after I had done my work for the day .

They call it dope for a reason. Some of the musicians I remember from my playing days were more into the lifestyle than their job. A jazz guy who taught me to play made it a point to tell me to stay away from drugs, booze, clinging women and focus on my music because that was going to pay my bills. I walked away from a lot and maybe blew an opportunity or two, but I have no regrets.

In my opinion there's not 1 bad track on this album. Definitely my favorite Kiss studio album next to their debut and Creatures. Also its 1 of the best produced Kiss albums. Even though the album sold well I feel it's very underrated because most of the songs were ignored when I was made for loving you became a big hit for the band. Labeled the Disco album, people I guess never listen to the rest of the album because most of the songs rock. I was made for loving you is my least favorite song off the album even though it's a very good song and a Kiss classic.

I don't know why they didn't push more singles from this album. It def had the clout to support more singles given the musical environment at the time. "Sure Know Something" for sure, maybe even "2000 Man" or "Magic Touch". These other songs may have been played occasionally but, at least one of them, should have been in regular rotation.

@CaptainVelveeta
@CaptainVelveeta 2 жыл бұрын
@@lauraduncan3677 Absolutely...Destroyer was one of my favorites. Destroyer and Rock and Roll Over were both released in '76 and stalled at #11 on the album charts. Love Gun was released the following year and peaked at 4. That's 3 albums in 12 months. Dynasty was 2 years in the making and I'm sure it was purposely written to be more radio friendly so they could shoot for that #1 spot...and they did exactly that. The album peaked at #9 in the U.S. but was #1 in four other countries and they scored their first #1 single here in the U.S. I just feel like it had more radio friendly songs on it.

I call the Dynasy Album die nasty. Ididnt know Peter Criss didnt even play on the album except Dirty Livin'. When it came out, i loved the cover, all four members in closeup. Disco was really big at the time. So its not surprising they delved inyo that genre. To be perfectly honest, I don't mind I Was Made For Loving You. I was such a fan, at this point l became accepting of the newer sound. Having said that, this would be the last Kiss album I would buy until Creatues years later. I remember a lot fans jumpimg off the band wagon ( no pun intended) once Dynasty came out. I wasnt ready to jump ship quite yet. While Dynasty wasnt great. It wasnt nearly as bad as Unmasked.

Albeit maybe problems in the background, Dynasty overall is actually a very strong record. Don't know what vini was doing but he hit the mark with them in 1979. I don't think he did them justice in 1980 with unmasked. That album has watered down guitars. Dynasty didn't.

Anton subbing for Peter makes it a bit of a cheat, but it's still a great record. Moving toward pop, disco and new wave was a good decision, if only they could have kept the band together, had reached out for more help with songwriting, and found a sympathetic producer to bring them into the 80s. All the talent, poor management.

Man, Dynasty is a good album. "Magic Touch" is one of my top 10 Paul Stanley tunes, indeed. "I was made..." and "Dirty livin" define the term "disco rock"; no band has ever done something similar

The irony in Peter wanting to use his friend as a producer and that "friend" turned out to be a Judas who`s doings ended up Peter getting fired. I would be so bitter about that.

Listening to "Hard Times" drumming pattern done by Anton Fig sounds pretty much like "Gengis Kahn", playing a little behind the pocket.

Maybe it's me. But as KISS, like any other band tends to use different instruments for different songs if they want, Sure Know Something sounds like Paul was using VOX amps. VOX is famous for its chimey sound.

Watch the Gibson Icons interview with Paul that you can see up here on KZbin. He mostly used his vintage Les Pauls to record. It's only a guesstimate on the tone factor, but he never mentions he used Vox amps to record, but but could be possible..
