I have one of these, 2005. S-line. Graphite gray. Been my daily driver for 18 years. Still runs like a top. I love the exhaust note. I love how the DSG gives me 30 mpg ( the high torque VR6 means that in D the TT shifts into 6th gear at 35 mph. It’s optimized to lower your revs as much as possible.) I also love that the 3.2 has a timing Chain, rather than a belt. Those wheels are unique to the 3.2 Quattro DSG as well. I love that everything inside that LOOKS like metal actually IS aluminum. Not chromed plastic. At 19 years old they still look new. Yours is missing the cargo net in the boot, which I love to keep smaller loads from flinging about on turns. The rear seats are NOT unusable. I have had kids back there, and even folded up a full size person in a pinch. But their primary use is that, here in the States, that rear seat cuts your insurance premiums by about 35% Two seaters cost more to insure. Up until recently, Its been the lowest cost of ownership of any car I’ve had. Had ONE $40 brake light switch go bad in 16 years of driving. But mine has been parked outdoors all this time, so it’s just starting to show some sun damage to the paint on the spoiler and roof gutter trim. And I recently had the headliner re-done. Other than that, I replaced the fuel pump just last year, and recently had to have the AC compressor fixed. And I replaced the instrument cluster over the dreaded red screen issue. The engine and transmission have been bulletproof. The best thing about the 3.2 is that the combo of the DSG never letting you exceed redline nor lug the engine protects both the transmission and the engine from driver exuberance. Additionally, they are a lot harder to mod, for lack of room under the hood, and won’t let you run over redline, so the tuners and dragsters tend to go for the cheaper 1.8L turbo manuals. That means that if you buy a used 3.2 DSG you are more likely to get a car that has not been run hard and worn out so bad. And the DSG is the best transmission ever devised. It’s faster and more responsive than any manual. You can run it in manual shift mode and it still won’t let you hurt the engine, or you can run it in automatic mode and not wear yourself out in bumper to bumper traffic. In Sport mode it will delay shifting until redline as long as you’re accelerating, and downshift early for compression braking, or to keep the engine in its power band for more aggressive driving. And even in fuel saving Drive mode, you can instantly tap the shift paddles to flip to manual control at any time and it will shift back to auto mode if you don’t tap the paddles again for a 20 seconds or so. It never misses a shift, Never shifts early or late, never grinds a gear or mis-clutches. Its stock exhaust note in Drive is understated and elegant, but present. And in Sport mode it’s an impressive low throated growl that is still not so loud as to be annoying to other folks on the road. It’s the most elegant touring sport ever made and a design tour de force. As to the cup holders… At first I thought they were in an awkward spot. But I rather quickly got used to them being behind my elbow. I love them now. They put the cup Out of the way and yet I have no issue reaching back to get the drink, or putting the drink back without looking. It may be easier for me with a US car because I am using my dominant Right hand, whereas you Brit’s are fumbling about with your left.

I had the 225 roadster for 8 years and it was a great car with 100% reliability for me. So I sold it and bought a BMW X5, which was completely the opposite 😂 if I turned my back on it another light came on and cost me money. Now I have a mk2 ttfsi which is lovely. A lot like my MK1 but more feedback, whether that's because it's a coupe and a bit stiffer I don't know. The boot space is ace compared to the roadster too. I plan to have a stage 1 relatively soon too.

Hi Richard, thank you for that brilliant run through on your Audi TT 3.2 V6, very informative as I have just seen one for sale and have fallen in love with it, I already have two classics and am being tempted by this beautiful fairly modern but classic style sports car which I think will hold its own in time, thanks again!

Excellent choice! Your garage is very similar to mine. MK1 Audi TT 225, MK1 MX5 1.6, Porsche Cayman 987 & Corrado VR6 Storm.
@FastandFun4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about you but the biggest trouble is not getting out in them this year due to COVID-19! The VR6 storm was a better (financial) decision rather than the money pit SL500! 😬 thinking of letting the TT 3.2 as I really want the MX5 in the garage.

@@FastandFun Hi Richard. Agreed with Covid 19 crisis! Retaxed the TT & been driving it today. I really enjoy it actually. Cayman & Corrado next month then MX 5, which incidentally I've had for eleven years (nearly 30 years old & still only on about 65,000 miles) & is the one I can never see me selling. There is just something about them as you know. Corrado's can be quite needy financially too but they are very definitely on the up now. They are a great car if you can find a good one!

Nice review - I'm coming out of a BMW e53 4.4i V8, and I'm currently getting between 18-22mpg so 31mpg from the 3.2 sounds great!

I compared my 3.2 TT fuel consumption with my other 3.2 (Boxster flat-6) which returns 25-26mpg. Can’t complain with the TT fuel consumption 👍🏻

I love mine. Have owned two R32 Golfs and I simply can't understand why these aren't more popular. It's a sexier and more fun package to the Golf and their looks really have lasted the test of time and look even more attractive compared to today's boring and overcomputerised cars
@FastandFun2 жыл бұрын
Completely agree - almost the same car as the R32 and as such a real bargain. Would I own another? Absolutely 👍🏻

Interesting film, I had my 93 year old mother in the front and the wife and dog in the back last week. Whilst the rear seats are very limited in their use, very handy for occasional use which of course both the merc and the boxster can’t offer. In fact it was my excuse for buying my 3.2 ! You can get a service exchange electronic gear box for less than £300 , mine hasn’t needed one yet but good to know. Great car!

@@74endo yes I would. The 3.2VR6 engine is a cracker and fitted with the DSG makes it a very capable car (seamless gear changes). Not the sharpest drivers car (steering lacks feel/feedback) but when a car looks this good, who cares. 👍🏻

@FastandFun11 ай бұрын
I can’t recall (it was a couple of years ago now) but if you buy pre-Mar ‘06 cars, it won’t be that much because it was at that date that the tax was linked to emissions and high polluting cars jumped up

@FastandFun4 жыл бұрын
Dale, there’s no problems with the gearbox so long as the servicing has been carried out. You should look for one with dealer or Audi indie garage so it’s all been done right at the right time. I found a lot of 💩 TT’s and take your time viewing as found the difference between 3.2’s vast! Some really have been neglected!!!! Incidentally I’m going to be letting mine go in around April but will be a fair price for what is an outstanding FSH and condition. Good luck 👍🏻

@FastandFun4 жыл бұрын
To be fair the back seats are no place for anyone over 1/2 hour or so. It’s not only legroom (limited) but headroom (their isn’t any!). We have done the occasional drive with someone in the back but they have to sit sideways with head tilted! Not ideal! I think he’d be okay for the occasional ride in the back but not sure you’d want to be doing that every day (for his sake!)
