Hi again Dale. I am former Bus driver ( TFL ). Done RR for Picc Line and others operators and lines, when at depot used to take my break at the Morden Station Staff Canteen with the pipe drivers. The bus you rode this night would have been driving in unacceptable conditions so it may be wise to pass some comments on. All it takes is a car to pull out, and bang...No passenger should ever get off a bus and think they had a dangerous ride.

The only nice thing about Dale's rail replacement bus journey was seeing the art deco architecture of the stations, but this driver was driving erratically, it would have been a different story if the bus was full with standing room only, I've even seen buses where it's that full people even resort to standing on the stairs.

Great to get insight into the spacing between trains on the line, and how your speed may affect others. Never thought about it, but of course it makes sense when you explain it. You cannot just stop and wait at a station, just because you are ahead of schedule. At least not normally. It's easier when trains are spaced more out, as they seem to be with current schedule and engineering works.

Hi Dale I used to be a bus driver in South Yorkshire and we had a few drivers that were mad drivers one in particular used to be in the depot when he should have been at his last stop approximately forty five minutes, he eventually got caught! Though I did have one time when I had been running late all day it was market day and I was trying to get back on time and thought the bus was empty and I put my foot down, it was an old bus with a maximum speed of around forty three miles per hour and the bell rung I thought oops and this man came down from the upper deck saying you are a mad bar steward. I don't know where he came from because I hadn't picked anyone up!! Great video as usual enjoy your holibobs.

Dale, thank you for the second part of your ‘rounder’ - every bit as enjoyable and informative as usual, along with a few well-timed witticisms of your own. Your line/route knowledge is flawless, and clearly you go about your role in a very good-humoured way - I know I’d just be far too grumpy to deal with the travelling public on a daily basis, though I am sure there are some days that are more trying than others! Of course, it’s all a big team effort to deliver mass transit in any large city, but the people that the public get to see the most - i.e. station staff and train crew - are those who make the greatest impression, so you all have my admiration and appreciation. As for your rail replacement bus, apparently with a wannabe rally driver at the wheel, I trust that you had an appropriate opportunity to provide ‘feedback’ on your journey, so that any ‘learning points’ aren’t, erm... lost 🤔 Take care, and happy travelling!

I remember guards on the underground, many years ago. They used to put a bar up to “ protect” their working space. There was drop down seat for them in the bulkhead. I can also remember being able to smoke, only 2 cars, the second from the back and second from the front. You learned where to wait on the platform. On the rare occasions I use the tube, I still wait in the same place, usually as far away from the platform entry point as possible.

Each driver has to do a days training a year and should carry a card to prove that. We had to do a driving test frequently done by an independent tester, alcohol and drug awareness, passenger awareness, walk around to check vehicle before driving, and first aid. The driving test cost me £1,000 to learn how to deal with a larger vehicle and do the theory and practical tests after many lessons. I used to drive up to 100 children to and from school taking up to 1.30 hours for some of them. I was responsible for all them and dealing with the parents and schools, and police, if there were any problems. I also dealt with rail replacements in the Bristol a;nd South Wales area and mainly at night like the driver of Dales bus and kept to the speed limits at all times. With as friendliness as i could. I also took many primary and secondary and college students on various trips and did private hires too dealing with mainly good behaved customers but sometimes had to be firm with some. This just gives you an idea of what i did for 18 years and really enjoyed it. Caroline

Pretty sure the line from Belfast to Bangor is the only "mainline" in the UK with station intervals comparable to the Underground, especially with the 2 or 3 halts that are now closed.....Craigavad was so close to Cultra you could see the train at the platform.....which probably explains why the Belfast and County Down Railway beat BR to the Sprinter system by about 25 years, otherwise trains would be getting to about 15mph between the first 5 stations.

I know it's old and costs a lot a lot to fix it however if they had done that nearly 20 years when plans were first drawn up the Bakerloo could of been the better line but still people in North West London get a bum deal because TFL and LU are slow. I know they had Deep level tube project which upgraded the lines but leaving the bakerloo til last is probably the worst idea. Their track and signalling is outdated and prone to failure and LU make do and mend on this line is criminal considering that the all the other lines get better treatment even the Northern line has had better treatment and that was once known as "the misery line" that now bestows on the Bakerloo.. it's an absolute shame.

Hi dale! At Northfields, at the station starter signal, there’s a board that says “Reg Point” what does this mean? It also says check signal, why? Thank you for your engagement in this channel, you’re very informative in the commentary!
@ib9rt4 ай бұрын
Dale has mentioned on several videos that certain stations are regulation points, where trains running early may be held at a signal for a brief while to maintain spacing between trains and to keep to the timetable. Check signal is because inattentive drivers may (but hopefully not!) leave the station on autopilot while the signal is still red and telling them to wait.
@dalecharmantravels80574 ай бұрын
Reg point means regulation point. So the signal system will hold us to time if we are early. Unless the signal op overrides it. They have the board to say check signal when a signal has been passed at danger a few times. It’s just a visual reminder

Search for The Signalman - Night Shift At Rayners Lane Signal Box. Rayners Lane Cabin controls Rayners Lane to Uxbridge. There's not much of South Kensington which controls the rest of the piccadilly line nowadays but if you search for Emergency At Earl's Court Station Leaves Control Room In Complete Chaos | The Tube hopefully you can find an episode of the old 'The Tube' TV programme which has shots of Earls Court which controlled the rest of the Piccadilly Line until quite recently.

What’s the story with the rough riding between Hatton Cross and Hounslow West? Is it not repairable?

@dalecharmantravels80574 ай бұрын
If we are alone in the cab we can have the off side cab door open. I usually have it open when I’m out side as long as it’s not raining

Was trains left in the Wood Green siding after last train
@dalecharmantravels80574 ай бұрын
No. Unless some thing has gone wrong they would not leave a train in there. The train needs cleaning and preparing by a technician. Plus they would have to turn power off to walk a driver in and out

What is the box with the light on the lower left side of the tunnel at the station?
@dalecharmantravels80574 ай бұрын
If you refer to one on the wall just above the rail. Well I don’t know what it’s called but it shows if the power is on or off or just says fault. I will speak to some one who worked on stations to tell me what they are called and I will include in a future video

@@dalecharmantravels8057 Sorry for butting-in, Dale - I was just typing a reply to this, which I think will answer the question... I assume you mean a box such as the one on the lower left-hand side at Earl’s Court 46:51 (and other locations) This device is known as a ‘P-CRID’, which is a Permanent version of the handheld CRID or ‘Current Rail Indicating Device’ that is used by authorised staff to determine whether or not the traction current (3rd & 4th rail power supply) for a defined area has been turned off before they access the track. I don’t believe you’ll see these on every Underground line, as they were developed and introduced by Tube Lines whilst it was a private company that was responsible for maintenance, enhancement and renewal of the infrastructure chiefly for the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines (roughly very late 2002 to mid-2010). I recall that P-CRIDs were a safety enhancement so that staff could be aware of the indicated traction current status before venturing onto the track in order to use a more conventional (handheld) CRID to verify that the power was indeed off.
