Great video! I had no idea they ran the cam shaft in opposite rotation to the crank on these! Partially explains why the firing order is so different from their gas engines and the old 6.2/6.5 diesels
@TTGTO2888 ай бұрын
Yes, any 2 gear timing set up like this runs the cam in the opposite direction as the crank. 300 Ford 6 cylinders, GM 2.5 4 cylinders ... etc ... cam does dictate firing order, but it is more so the crank and the companion cylinders then it is the cam. You can change a Duramax firing order with a different cam to try to extend crankshaft life. When cylinders 1, 2 & 3 fire one right after the other (stock) it stresses the front of the crankshaft, hence why most break in that spot.

That allen key on the oil pump is for torquing your pump shaft. The balancer and flex plate are best done with a locking tool.

Wow just in the beginning of the video you showed me things I didn't even know about thanks for this informative video I'm planning on building my motor to handle 1000hp

great information I'm starting to do the same project finding so much information I thought the rod bolts recommend Streck procedure instead of torque also checking your bearing oil clearance it's a must

All in all, a good video, but never lube the back of your bearings ... they fit tight enough that they shouldn't fall out unless you are pounding on the pistons to get them in and if you are doing that, i'd worry more about a cracked ring. You also do not check any bearing clearances or crankshaft end-play. Just because it spins with a prybar, doesn't mean its going to be ok when running.

I was thinking the same thing when he said assembly lube behind the bearings. Absolutely never do that. I stopped watching a soon as I seen that. I'm a certified technician and was only watching to familiarize myself with a D-max before I start putting mine together. But can't watch someone teaching with bad advice. It angers me. Look at the procedure and read the spec sheets. Ughhh i can just see 1000's of guys slapping on lube then installing bearings.

My cam gear and crank gear aren’t lined up, the crank gear is 180 degrees off. So single dot up, two dots directly center top.

Did you check the piston ring end gap? Is that an important step to take? If so do you use a piston ring grinder tool?
@gm_central338910 ай бұрын
I did, I’ve done it quite a few times in these and I’ve never had any out of spec, usually good quality parts are spec’d pretty good

How much did the machine shop bore out ? And what size rings are you using ? Thanks.

They didn’t have bore it out at all, cylinder walls were fine. They honed it and I used stock spec rings

Why use aftermarket rod bolts on stock rods? You know that the rod itself fails before the stock bolts do? Aftermarket hardware on stock rods is pointless
@gm_central338910 ай бұрын
Because they aren’t much more and if I ever had to refresh or anything like that I can reuse them
@mini_max872510 ай бұрын
@@gm_central3389 my point is stock rods are pointless. Stock rods will bend before the bolts fail, and if you’re going into it a second time that proves my point. If you did aftermarket rods you wouldn’t need to go into a second time. That is just silly.
