Thank you so much! I love drafting film for detail. It’s so much different to other paper surfaces, but it’s incredible for achieving an insane amount of detail on ☺️

@beccabarronart I may have to check that out at some point Becca, especially a surface that allows you to achieve insane amounts of detail, then I'm all ears!! I have a set of Polychromos pencils and loads of different types of paper, I know lots of coloured pencil artists prefer using watercolour for pencil art and I will be experimenting as to which paper I can get the best results with. I also have some Pan Pastels that I bought a couple of years ago that I haven't used as of yet....but after watching your amazing drawing of an elephant, I shall be using them soon too. I really wished I had done art courses to polish up my drawing and then taking some watercolour classes, but the older I get, the less inclined I am to go back to College, besides I've stumbled along by myself this many years, I suppose I can carry on in the same manner. Thankyou once again Becca.

Hello becca just wondering if your doing the drawing on the drafting paper why do the pastel part on an other paper underneath it why not do the pan pastel onthe drafting paper

Hello 🤗 I apply pan pastels to the Fabriano paper underneath the drafting film, because it blends out much better and the pigment can sit in the tiny grain / tooth of the paper. On drafting film, because there is no tooth at all and it’s completely smooth, the pan pastels wouldn’t blend out as well. The transparency of the drafting film, means I can still see everything underneath, but focus more on detail ☺️ you’re very limited to the amount of layers you can add on drafting film, so having as much as you can showing through from underneath, really helps!

Couldn’t you just use the color pencil on top of the pan pastels? I’ve never used pastels so I’m curious.
