Part 2 Install $50 Universal Roof Rack From EBay ! Prius C Car Camping

I use the roof rack to transport my boats for my camping trips. Because of the curve on the roof of the Prius C. I have to add extra support to the cross bars so it will not move. I used the lower cost roof rack from Ebay and it works for me. I do have to apply grease to the screws (for the rack) so it will not rust that easily.

Yes, nice rack install. The longitudinal pieces are also very handy for sliding big heavy boats up from the side and then twisting them into place. In fact many install a strap between the bars evertime they load and then remove the strap and use it for the boat tie down. Can you tell me what you used for this long longitudinal piece? It looks like some kind of plastic. Thanks!

Thanks for your comments and feedback. The longitudinal piece can be wood, aluminum angle, PVC pipe (block the ends so as to min. wind noise). I used the vinyl lattice cap www.homedepot.com/p/4-ft-White-Vinyl-Lattice-Cap-2-Pack-73004694/206812875 It is the left over from my boat building projects. It should be strong enough to prevent the cross bar from shifting. Thanks!

I got the same roof rack from ebay and it did not fit my 2015 prius c... maybe I have to adjust it more..

It took me a few hours to figure out how to secure it on the roof. I have been using it since June last year. I never remove it after I installed it and it doesn't seem to impact the gas mileage (when there is nothing mounted on the rack).

@@rosivo3142 My car is also 2015 Prius C. When I first setting it up, I spent over an hour and couldn't get it to work. I did question if this is the right rack. Later, I loosely tighten the screws, moved the supporting feet and brackets, so that they will be more aligned with the shape of the car roof. Then I slowly tightening the screws and also kept on adjusting the alignment of the rack on the roof and finally got that to work. The kit came with three set of brackets, I used the shortest ones in the front and the longest brackets at the back. I hope this will work for you too!
