"People tend to understand something foreign based on something familiar" is such a good mindset in such a situation. I think it's true that it's a great mindset but I think we should also understand that people might get these kinds of questions all the time, and it can be exhausting to constantly educate people about who you are when sometimes you just want to get through your day like everybody else-- so it doesn't necessarily mean they're a-holes, maybe they're just tired. It's the same with being any other kind of minority too, like imagine being the only asian in a white school and constantly having to explain about your traditions and culture when you just want to learn maths or something. There's should no strict "woman and man" rules even in heterosexual relationship. Why don't every couple accept each other and grow together as a team
@ThatBernie3 жыл бұрын
It’s totally normal for couples to divide up responsibilities, but the problem is when heterosexual relationships simply fall back on the “default” of masculine vs. feminine duties. In a gay relationship responsibilities are divided on a case-by-case basis, so for example I do most of the cooking while my boyfriend does most of the cleaning, because my working hours are more flexible while he has a 9-to-5 job and so it makes sense for us to split it up that way, plus I enjoy cooking more and he is a bit of a neat freak, so it all works out. I hope heterosexual couples can learn to do the same thing because I really think taking this more individualized approach to dividing responsibilities can lead to a more harmonious relationship.
@revinaque13423 жыл бұрын

I used to work with customers when I was younger and I understand that it´s really hard to deal with some people or you are just having a bad day but you should not put it on other people. I feel like lot of problems could be solved just by people treating each other with respect. You don´t have to like every single person but just try to understand their situation and have open mind.
@lisaisa3 жыл бұрын
As someone who is Ghanaian, a culture where they respect older people like you say, and also someone born and raised in the UK “the West” I don’t really think it’s that the west disregards older people. People still respect older people but they simultaneously acknowledge that just because you’re old doesn’t mean your behaviour/ beliefs are infallible. Respect is give and take and you should treat others how you want to be treated.
@brimazzu32233 жыл бұрын
I feel like it’s a cross cultural thing related to how connected we are through technology that the younger generations (not everyone) in Asian countries don’t revere their elders. I remember learning in sociology that East Asian cultures have a group mentality rather than the individual, however, in the 2016 Train to Busan movie, the father protagonist had a very individual first mindset. In other words, times and technology changes culture. I just wish the US would adopt the group mentality from the east (especially regarding covid or public health in general).

I’m from the West ( 61 y/o) and honestly it has never been okay to disrespect our elders no matter what ! People who disrespect others ( no matter the age) have never been taught better and that seems to be more common as yrs go on . It’s unfortunate that society in general is becoming more tolerant of this behavior! But it has never been okay to disrespect the elderly in America . I raised four daughters and they were taught from birth to never disrespect people in general .. and even my grandson would open doors and assist elderly and women out of respect ! It’s sad that people don’t raise their offspring properly!

Yeah, it's a double-edged sword. On one end no one likes others to discriminate them, but on the other hand by behaving like a completely normal couple instead of hiding affection it would eventually normalize the sight of two men holding hands in public. Hmmm, so much unnecessary trouble in the world just because of homophobic people trying to stop love between two grown, consenting adults. It's just love. :/
@justme-qd6qb3 жыл бұрын
True, I also think internalised homophobia plays a big role in this. But it's really shitty because you never know how people will react. A lot of people might not say anything but it only takes one crazy person to be harassed, and it's shitty that so much responsibility is put on you as a couple (because essentially all your coupl-y actions become a political statement even when you don't want them to)

yes I agree. if people see it enough they'll realize that A, gay people are more common than they think and that they need to be more respectful, and openminded in their views, and B, that it's a normal sight to see so it'll no longer be viewed as taboo. so many koreans never met a gay person before but this way they'll know they exist and are not so different from them

I’ve been observing social acceptance of homosexuality since the mid 1980’s. I grew up in a very process town in the USA that is a safe place to come out. It happened gradually, by the time my daughter was in Kindergarten, early 1990’s, gay and lesbian couples could hold hands and kiss in public. Open homophobia was confronted and my daughter’s friends knew and came out as early as 7th grade. It still wasn’t accepted everywhere in the USA, but my children grew up with it being normal! Our local college attracts young people from all over the country because of its progressiveness. For my youngest daughter born 1998, it has always been normal. She went to college in a small rural town and made friends with everyone. Most of her friends were not always accepted on the place they grew up in. Having no aversion to homosexuality, she is very out-spoken in her advocacy for gay rights. She has been to Korea and went to a gay bar, with friends and attended a Pride Parade 🏳️🌈🇰🇷! She knows that most Asian countries still have backwards views, such as, it’s a choice, or it’s perverted…but this is under a social revolution, using pop culture, like BL, and young people don’t have institutionalized homophobia. This grandma is very progressive for her generation. There are many different kinds of sexuality, and most of the time, it’s non of my business, just like with straight people, but I am an Ally and have many LGBTQ+ friends, and will speak out with brain science if anyone challenges someone’s sexuality. My daughter has discovered that she is Demi-heterosexual and yes, I did have to look it up!

4:23 I had a similar experience when I first started thinking I wasn't straight. Except for me it was the opposite gender and I was much much younger. I still dwell on it to this day since I have my father who tells me constantly that it's normal for women to like women, in that way. Tbh, seeing someone else with a similar experience kinda helps me with accepting myself. I'll keep this in mind on my bad days, so I can shut the homophobic comments off, for a little bit at least. It's kinda nice to know I'm not alone in that XD

I've been subscribed to Cheolsoo for 3-4 years now, and subscribed to this channel since it was quite new, so this was an unexpected, but incredibly amazing collaboration between two of my favorite channels. Thank you Zoey for arranging and producing this wonderful collaboration, I enjoyed it greatly.

unexpected, grandma made my eyes teary when she said to them: " do what you want! Hold hands! brothers do hold hands too..." aww blessed she be... and what she said as a lady in her "older age"(generation) was so simple but still it hit me deep - it felt like she did changed a "second time in her life" her meaning about gays bcos she met these two "lovely souls" and i bet she supports them for real from now on :) but at end when they all 3 made the photo and she wanted stand in middle and hold hands with them - gosh that got me lost and i wiped off tears from my cheek lol :D

These types of conversations need to happen more in Korea. I lived in Seoul for two years and I dated a Korean guy who said he never planned to tell his parents and that they would probably disown him if he did. So sad.

The part when they mentioned not being able to hold hands made me cry and I sobbed after grandma told them they should. This was very heartwarming, thank you 💓

This two part video was so wholesome and I am grateful they were able to speak with a grandma that is so open minded and kind. She did not judge them and was curious, engaging. I can tell that they both viewed her as their own grandparent, able to say things they wished they could to a loved one. I hope they keep contact and have meals together as a group.

Just the way she was so hesitant to ask them personal questions shows that she respected their space, she took time in thinking what to ask them as to not offend or hurt them, she is genuinely so sweet and understanding it's so cute

They are from a different country than I, speak a different language and are from a much younger generation. Be that as it may, their stories echo my own life experience and the journey to coming out to oneself. What a lovely conversation between this wonderful woman and these two gentlemen.

This video made me cry, grandma you are such a beautiful soul! You are an example of how all humans should be! You are warm, welcoming and accepting, and most importantly you were willing to learn. I also am so happy that the young men understood her questions came from a place of wanting to learn and not judgment. This was so lovely 💖

What a wonderful expression of how the older generation can adapt to and accept correct modern views. So cathartic for those of us not as fortunate to have such welcoming family as Grandma OK. Thanks for sharing, much love from the U.S.A! 💕

I am so proud of them for agreeing to this meeting and conversation. I found both parts 1 & 2 so interesting and entertaining. I absolutely adore Grandma! She’s such a breath of fresh air. I love her modern way of thinking and her acceptance of gays. I applaud the guys for speaking so openly and honest even though they were nervous about conversing with her. In the end, the photo they took with Grandma they looked so comfortable and at ease with her. She did that. She made them feel comfortable to be themselves with her. Look at those smiles in that photo! Absolutely wonderful! I hope they see each other again in the future. 🥰❤️❤️❤️ Thank you to the person(s) who thought of this idea for a video. Well done!👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It's about 5 a.m. I'm in South Carolina, USA. I cant stop watching you and your Grandmother. So cute! My grandmother passsed away 4 years ago at 88 yrs old. She was my best friend. I was missing her a lot and then I saw these videos that reminded me of the way we used to be laughing and eating together. Your grandmother is funny and just says it how she feels. Thank you so much. May God bless you and your Grandmother with many many more years! 😊😊😊❤❤❤

I just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to their channel through yours. Just seeing gay people live normal lives in loving, healthy relationships is very comforting to me and I think to a lot of other people as well. And the videos with them and grandma Ok have been really heartwarming and enlightening.
